    My biggest drag on the game is the sense of urgency in the campaign and the fact that the cops are from hell. 9/10 I'd be in a race, cops would come then I'd spend 5-10 mins after just trying to escape and keep my money. It was fine at first but after it started happening with every race it got super annoying.

There’s a lot of cool things they could’ve done with it too, like impromptu duels, out of race takedowns (one of the challenges you can get is to take down a racer, that seems almost impossible to actually do while still winning a race), and generally helping to make the game’s racing scene feel more alive.

    @@TheKillaShowF'in' great, with that tunnel vision and empty bitchin' your contribution is no better than panthaaa gang. And as most of the time, the answer is bullshit EA constraints, that's how. Criterion only had half the time that passed between Heat and Unbound, 'cuz of Battlefield. And EA is back at it AGAIN. Check #WeWantNFS for further details. Anyhow they whipped up a new map, a new artsyle, thightened up the driving model with Burst Nitrous on top. Made the cops more distinct with a more balanced difficulty and better AI (not saying it's actually good, but improved since Heat) As the more linear scaling starting lower and reaching almost as tough as Heat but without the BS difficulty spike at Heat 3 was a definite improvement. Not to mention police chatter. Heat's was the most cringe shit ever. Unbound's police chatter is still unauthentic stupidity but in a good way. Very fun, fits the vibe of the game, reminds me of when the MCU used to have decent writing. However their frequency is waaay too much and tedious. And the fluid transition from race to open world in a chase is a sorely missed point to me as well. Destructible objects having no weight just insta-delete is also trash while Heat did that better than Horizon. The lack of event variety with the ASAP Rocky pink slip race having a cutscene in trailers and not making it to the final game with open world cruises in story mission being present in Heat but not Unbound are pretty clear evidence to me that they wanted a lot more but had no chance of completing the features by deadline.

    Personally i like now NFSMW 2005 did it, you had rivals, but you also had NPC racers that only had names to flesh out the scene. It made it feel much more accurate. Imo fixing the street scene in unbound is as simple as keeping the rivals, and then adding more named rscers with no faces, that way its not a problem if theyre forgotten, because you arent supposed to remember them, they arent your focus. Also in story mode having environmental things like a random racer running from cops in the city would have been awesome! Imagine your cruising around and suddenly you hear about an active pursuit over the news, and then see a racer being chased by a few cops blasting down a road across from you, or witnessing two rivals battling 1v1 on the highway on the opposite side from you? Little things like that would make the world really feel alive imo

    Tokyo Xtreme Racer gives you 200~400 named rivals. Sure, most of them are easily forgotten, but the team leaders, bosses, and the occassional mid bosses are memorable. I think Unbound would've been better if, aside from the 10~15 rival NPC's we had, there were also randoms included every race, just so the game doesn't feel so empty in regards to how many street racers there were. This was already made possible by the previous game, even OG Most Wanted. I have no idea why they didn't include that here.

    The spawning with speed after crashing part is a critique that caught my attention real good, of all things. I similarly appreciate the way they've implemented this in Unbound, especially after revisiting some old classics that I never could back in the day, specifically Porsche Unleashed (now also my favorite classic era NFS). Crashing in that game came with a severe penalty not just to your car (which is so much more advanced than everything that followed, except Prostreet...), particularly to your steering, making your car much harder to control, but respawning was also aggravatingly slow in that game and the driver even loses time on the car ignition, too, as the engine dies following a severe crash, and you could lose a more difficult race very easily after a bad corner. Struggled for a ten second split time ahead of your competition? All of that, gone. It could be brutal. But, it was well implemented at the end of the day, because it fit with the more simulation oriented approach of that game. Crashing in Unbound and all Ghost/Criterion games feel so weird in comparison, because the collision is quite poor and the crash cameras take much too long to finish, not to mention them being much too easy to trigger, especially in MW2012, the worst offender of the bunch. It might be a more controversial change for some, but it makes perfect sense why the crash penalty was minimized in this game, more often than not it just sucks out the enjoyment of the game, and losing a race after one crash or bad corner is just stupid and needlessly cruel.

  • @evandaymon8303

    @evandaymon8303

    Not mentioned crash hitboxes aren’t properly checked. Sometimes you can survive hitting a truck at high speeds and not die but driving slowly next to a wall suddenly your car is flipped like you hit it super hard when you aren’t driving that fast. Then we have heat and health systems being extremely inconsistent and unbound did fix it but at this point no one really wanted a health system. It doesn’t make it fun when those stuff you mentioned along with what i add on from my experience happen. It makes it a pain in ass and i miss days where we just ram a cop car without worrying about it too much.

  • @proletarianrise10

    @proletarianrise10

    Жыл бұрын

    @@evandaymon8303 Yeah, you're right. The wonky checks and collision with walls was never truly fixed, this was a major problem back in 2015 with that game, as the walls in that game were practically magnets. The health system is, similarly, something I am seeing as an issue since Heat, because it isn't well thought out and causes pursuits to feel cheap, an excuse for an inability to implement smarter and efficient cops. Cops in the older games were able to PIT maneuver the player's car, ram them, surround and box them in, and even the chopper could either drop bombs (HP2), ram them directly (MW2005), or drop spikes (HP2010). The cops ever since 2015 simply come off as a bunch of aggressive but dumb thugs... And, speaking of which, the absence of a proper cop radio chatter is aggravating, too. It simply doesn't feel like the player is engaging in proper pursuits without it. No NATO codes, and absolutely nothing tactical about it. HP2, MW2005-Undercover, and HP2010 had amazing and realistic cop chatters. MW2012 marked a slight decline, Rivals had great chatter once again, but the decline that followed was severe...

  • @TRRDroid

    @TRRDroid

    @@proletarianrise10 I liked 2015's way of the cops only talking to the player via speaker. They still maintained a professional manner. The cop chatter in the last two games isn't professional by any means (cops insulting the player on radio) and feels pretty random. 2015 with modded cops CAN be fun though, at least there's no damage system like in Heat and Unbound.

  • @proletarianrise10

    @proletarianrise10

    @@TRRDroid On rare occassions the cops would insult the player in their chatter in the old games too, actually. Specifically in MW2005, there are instances where the cops would call the player a "moron" (something along the lines of "I need some help with this moron", I can't remember it exactly off the top of my head). But these instances were rare, and 99.9% of time their chatter was professional. Unbound does seem to be an improvement over Heat in this regard where the cops sounded little more than just dumb thugs trying to be threatening much too hard, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the old games and what a realistic cop chatter is supposed to sound like. From the old games, MW2005, Undercover, and HP2010 were my favorite.

Unbound on the other hand doesn't have any professional radio chatter, not even in daytime. The excuse there is: NeW gEnErAtIoN oF cOpS.

    in terms of fleshing out a game with rivals, I particularly like how Carbon and Prostreet did it (though they still leave room for improvement) in Carbon, the other rivals are often in teams that are, just like you, trying to claim territories, and if you don't watch over your turf, they will challenge you in races and you can lose those races. It's really nice cause it feels like you're not alone in that world, like there are others trying to race as well, instead of just having random names and cars that just exist in the realm of individual races and cease to exist outside of them (and of course, at the end of a race they go on their own way and split up, especially if the cops are after them). Again though, I wish that could've been developed further, like with being able to actually lose entire territories to them, have them challenge you for your turf and your car the same way you take on the big crews. I wish the big crews could try to take back their turf as well in Prostreet, each racing organization comes with its own names and rivals, making the racing scene feel much more fleshed out; the people you take on in Battle Machine are not the same people you face in React Team Sessions, but some names to remain though, and you can start to feel a rivalry towards those. Mainly though, you've got each King's own team taking part in races, more and more often as you progress further in the game, and they become your recognizable faces (well cars). Sometimes for good reasons, like them actually being decent challenges, sometimes for bad reasons, like how Joe Tackett in drag races is a fucking meme with how slow he is. They even have their own characteristics, with their styles being more suitable at certain circuits and not others, it's quite nice! However, I do wish those rivals could've been fleshed out more than by just being names and cars that only exist within the premises of races and nowhere else in the game, but that's a global problem with Prostreet as a whole. A particular thing I felt with Prostreet as well was how in the last Showdown, a lot of races featured a lot of King team members, and I almost started to feel a sense of companionship with the very few other racers that weren't in those teams. It kinda felt lonely when you'd take part in a grip event where every other racer was either in Grip Runners or Apex Glide, and you were the only "independent" dude

    After playing this game, I’m gonna say it right now that I haven’t had this much fun playing a racing game in years and the potential with this game is through the roof. Personally I’ve been having a blast playing this game especially the online mode and I don’t really understand all the criticism like yeah it has its problems but nothing is perfect and I trust this company to make this into something greater than what it already is. Currently have over 215 hours into this game and I haven’t felt any type of boredom because every race feels like a adrenaline rush when I’m speeding past civilian cars and gapping my opponents. I know not everyone feels the same way as I but I’m not ganna sit and pretend to agree with everyone that this game is a failure because to me it’s not and it’s brought countless hours of enjoyment and has brought alot of fun with me and my friends. Hopefully the devs continue to support this game because I’m all on board and this next coming update will definitely consume more hours out of me with the addition of cops online and some UI fixes and ect.

    The community is mad because it somehow is the worst entry in the franchise besides Undercover. It's not a good game, it's completely artificial, designed to waste your time, to extend play times and to make you consider micro transactions. The handling model that most people hate is back and somehow worse than ever. The cartoon graphics mixed with the realistic setting and cars look deplorable and jarring. The police chases aren't fun or engaging and again are completely artificial with you being forced into them 9/10. Remember how that in Most Wanted, or any racing game that makes any sort of sense at all, you could instantly go to safehouse to avoid cops and launch events? Nope lol now you have to drive to events and to your safe house with unavoidable police, no more doing whatever you want to do, gotta extend play times to keep higher ups happy. You can easily go up to heat level 5 at the start of the game in your starter car with unavoidable cops, and if you get busted you lose all of your money for the day. The car selection is strange and nonsensical. (a VW Beetle is the best starter car in the game.) The music has had constant complaints and is one of the worst soundtracks in the entire series. You have a limited amount of restarts in a franchise notorious for rubber banding and having police pursuits during races. The game costs 70 dollars and has always online DRM and forces you to launch the game through the EA App. I could almost go on forever about how bad this game is.

  • @CommanderWolf888

    TL;DR: If NFS made a game with Heat's day/night system, Unbound's system of having races for every performance class (with significantly more variety of course), and Most Wanted (2005)'s police (where they are tough at high heats BUT you can still be aggressive against them), they'd have something actually remarkable on their hands. Heat's system was better overall, but not without it's problems. I love the day/night dynamic, sanctioned races for money by day, risky street races for rep by night. My problems with Heat are as follows: 1) Nighttime: Once you've unlocked all the high-end parts and maxed out your level, there's not much reason to go back to night racing, which is a shame because the risk/reward system is really fun. I guess you could go back to it to get free parts, but that's not only a grind, but a crap shoot as to what part you're going to get. 2) Daytime: Grinding, yeah, but I think it could've been a fun grind if only there were more race events to do. As it stands, there's only like 7 races that give decent payouts; you have to have a high-end car to win them, so your options for what to drive are limited (in the sense that you either need a supercar, or to spend 100's of thousands of dollars upgrading the car you want to compete with them, like I did with my Datsun and Miata). I grinded long enough to get a pretty decent collection of fully-upgraded cars, but doing the same 7 racetracks over and over, even online (which I really only did for the increased payout), got boring after a while. I think if all the races scaled with your performance, it'd be more fun. That's something I think Unbound did better, it gives you the opportunity and incentive to have multiple cars at different performance levels, so you can use the cars you want, and more of them.

  • @BiIlDipperIy

    What's crazy is they have like 90% of a great game lol. Some more modes for online, less grindy ways to make money (kinda the same thing) maybe make parts cost less or something. It's too tedious to do a bunch of races and build your car (especially online). I enjoyed it the first time, but then I wanted to try another car. And it just costs soo much to upgrade. Which I wouldn't mind if there was: 1. More races, different kinds of races, I don't even think there's cops in online right? 2. More cars (cars we should've already had at launch too). Soo much potential with online it blows my mind they don't cash in on that. Why do these devs fail to realize if they just made a bomb ass game, they would rake in the $$. Then if people really love it, you can find a non-intrusive, non P2W way to add micro transactions. Idc if they wanna add like neon packs or some shit, and I *know* that they would sell... If. Collisions is an easy tweak since it's based mainly on an impact threshold that triggers the cam. (Which is scripted by the way. Criterion, stop. My car should not magically force a flip from a small collision like that. ) It's really not a big issue having another car or trying to earn another car for different events. Having to re-tune your car makes the most sense. Your one car shouldn't magically auto tune to drift. Or auto tune to drag. The only issue they have is not providing "Fine-tuning". This would actually allow us to tune the car to a specific way based on what it's being built for. Underground 2 has this system so it makes no sense why they don't do that. Cops were purposely made NOOB FRIENDLY because people suck. Yes I'm being blunt, so what? If we even did get MW2005 cops everyone would be wanting them to be nerfed. They are very aggressive and very smart. The health system has some slight issues. But this just has to do with collision impact. Slamming a heavy car hurts you, that makes sense. Plus, you're running the hardest difficulty, which makes your car even weaker. Race variety can be added very easily. It's not rocket science. If anything, this is what most wanted 2005 is. It's just a big nostalgia bandwagon. Once one person starts it. Everyone will. That's why future games suck because we go back and forth with our feedback and refusing to accept anything new. If we all agreed for cops to be buffed. They 100 percent will listen. But no, we keep fighting each other and start saying "fuck nfs,I'm threw" ok, the devs do nothing then. There you go.

    This is how we keep getting shit games. People want a little bit of all the cool things they liked from other games, forgetting that the game can only really be “good” if it’s something new that also happens to be good. you cannot expect a patchwork of diluted aspects of other games to ever be good, or if anything better than those single games making up the experience. @@ZAINILEXTHE1ANDONLY But it doesn’t matter. Because these features are only good if the game is good. I don’t care if the soundtrack is boomer metal and early 2000s R&B if the game is uninspiring, I don’t care if I can customize the inside of my headlamps or not if the driving physics are not engaging. I don’t care about having a Versa or a Yaris (💀) if they have no purpose in the game outside of being car tier fillers. This is the problem with the latest generation of racing games: they are not something original and engaging, but instead a failed emulation of what the community (delusionally) remembers as good, which in their minds must therefore be good as well, right? No, because the same experience you had in 2006 with a racing game will never be there again. As a case study of what a game should be, take Hot Pursuit (2010): a game nobody was “asking” at the time, without all of the features that the guy above is talking about, and yet a gameplay so addicting you can keep coming back to that game and do the same missions over and over because they just never get old. All of this said: I actually liked Unbound, I felt it was a breath of fresh air in some areas like the driving system, even though it’s lacking a lot of meat, and I’m inviting skeptical people to play it because by dropping these prejudices (oh the OST is bad? big fucking deal) you can enjoy a game that is fresh and a new concept but you can perfectly tell it’s still bound (no pun intended) by all these needs the community has, so Criterion can never really be free to make a game that’s a unique experience. I say this because I care about the franchise and I want to see it go in a direction where it can develop something new and stop running back to the safe appeal to the nostalgic crowd. This just gets us recycled content and a never-pleased community.

    I still play this game cause its my favorite style of game. A few things that made the game not fun for me was the fact that I cant drive the car I want on every board. Especially if its offline, I should have the ability to play any board with any car when ever I want. Also the music sucks. Making money is very tough but not a massive deal.

    Racing games in general are in a bad place right now. I know pretty much everyone here already knows that though! These games are so overly smoothed over and turned into a formula. The way cars move is so flat and synthetic. Arcade games can have playful physics without them being utterly sterilised like they are in NFS and the likes of DIRT 5 and GRID(2019) and Legends. The whole industry desperately needs to press the 'fuck, go back!' button

    I can't complain about the AI trafic. It's actually good. Yes there and there you'll exprience unfair trafic but have you ever noticed for example trafic in tunels is basicly none existent when you enter it ? You cant see shit in like the first 2 seconds of that tunel. It was actually nice to see that they did this. In games like forza i was always raging because you would enter a tunel and crash imidietly into a car that you couldn't see

    I just decided to skip another boring, lifeless, "shiny but hollow" open world NFS game. I'm just tired of this trend, not every NFS MUST be an open world game, but we know that the higher-ups can't monetize a single-player oriented game to hell and back, so they have to dish out these soulless trash entries in order to satisfy them, but not the fans. I miss the era when different styles of NFS were released, and those were the best since they felt unique even if they were rushed, had a short period of development or developed as another game was being also in development (That's on EA for not letting them build a more robuts game). Also, in my opinion, the OST has been in decline since 2012, making the experience even worse. The sad thing is that the next game will be more of the same, but with a $70+ price tag.

    The linear NFS games without the open world weren't the best either like The Run, Shift1/2, Hot Pursuit were kinda boring. The only good linear NFS games i remember were the ones that released before Underground 2, but the only game i would replay of them would be Underground 1 and nothing more.

    Tuning your handling one by one is bullshit. Heat's handlng tuning system was better. You just install drift tires and drift suspension and rest is track, than you can win races with cornering with drifting which makes it more playable I think. I finished 2015 with just old Porsche rsr. I had money for even buying 5 other cars and intalling best parts to them but I didn't want to buy another car not to spend hours for trial and error for suitting cars' handling to my driving style

    I think burst NOS is the best racing game boost mechanic since Ridge Racer 7’s nitrous. The added momentum and grip from burst adds an added layer of strategy and skill that can be taken advantage of. I hope more nitrous option are added in addition to burst in the next game. Similar to burnout or RR7.

    Honestly the effects are intresting aswell as the cell shaded characters but they did nothing intresting with it. On the other hand the gameworld looks like every other racer on the market (high fidelity graphics without anything remarkable). The soundtrack has probably intresting songs in it but the fact that i cant skip or select anything makes the whole thing really unaccessable
