Why Did ‘Killer Sally’ Shoot Her Bodybuilder Husband?
A new Netflix documentary, "Killer Sally," directed by filmmaker Nanette Burnstein, covers what led Sally McNeil to kill her husband Ray McNeil. The couple were both champion bodybuilders. But their volatile relationship came to a head when Sally shot and killed Ray in their California apartment in 1995. Sally says she killed him in self-defense. However, prosecutors said she had her own history of violence. Sally was convicted and served 25 years in prison.

I watched the documentary, the accounts told by the children I believe he was abusive but I think she was too, they were both very toxic in this relationship and the forensics shows that she shot him while he was laying down, their is no way at that point he was coming after her.

Just based off this 2min KZread video, it sounds like it was a mutually abusive relationship, she probably did shoot him in self-defence but she overstepped the bounds of self-defence when she reloaded and finished him off, hence why she was found guilty and given a prison sentence.

There’s no excuse to take somebody life unless you have no other choice with marriage like this you could easily get a divorce for things like this or leave my father was very abusive to my mother still married but leave separate life they should’ve give her life in prison 25 wasn’t enough if it was him who did this I bet they would’ve treat him differently
In domestic abuse cases many men and women have gone overboard to make sure the person doesn't get back up, same as sally did. Her children hating the father and crying saying he was strangling their mother said it all.

Because he wasn't beating her (that time) and her own son said she gave it as well as she received it. Her son said it once took 5 COPS to apprehend her and after throwing her down a flight of concrete stairs she STILL wanted to fight! That doesn't sould like a shrinking wallflower to me. Terrible relationship that should have ended by either party and never should have gotten to this point. I truly believe she was abused and had battered woman syndrome. Without that 2nd shot she walks away clean. But given her own history of violence towards others. And the fact that many people knew her husband was cheating and said to them he wanted out. And then he comes home late on Valentine's day and this happens especially with that 2nd shot to the face with a weapon reload after he was already down. The jury really had no choice, no reasonable doubt.

Great watch. A must see.
I believe they were both abusive toward each other. Roids will turn you into a monster with a short fuse.
I watched the documentary and I believe she set him up to off him. When she is in the interrogation room, her son says to her, "remember what that policeman said? He said, 'with all the bruises on you, if you kill him it would be self-defense'. Tell them that." That had to be from a previous incident because she didn't have any bruises on her and I'm sure the cops separated them all as soon as they got Rhett and daw what happened. Then before telling her story, she says," for give me if I can't remember everything thing properly." When it is the truth, you don't have to remember what happened or what you said. She also said she was putting on makeup to go look for him, but she also he came home and asked why was she putting on makeup. If he came home, there was no need to continue to put on makeup. I believe she antagonized him in order to make him snap so she could shoot him. She shot him twice, first in the chest and then he the face.... she wanted to annihilate him! That was jealous, anger and hatred. There's even one point where she snaps and start talking about him being with whores and how he should've been with her.. she even got upset because it was another valentine's day without him because he was out with someone else. She killed him om valentine's day, after he came home from being gone all day. that was premeditated!!!

Yes, steroids can cause uncontrollable behavior and violence. Major well know side effect, this is another reason why it’s illegal.
She killed him because he was going to leave her for another woman…. They were probably abusive towards each other. He abused her kids . She only decided to take action when she knew he wanted someone else so she gets no sympathy from me. It was NOT self defense she definitely started the “ fight” . Now but as a gym junkie living off of a woman abusing her kids that’s what he got not sorry. It won’t change anything but her kids should hopefully realize he wouldn’t have had access to them had she not been with him. She made it clear what her priority was.
@justlive2809

she wanted to leave him first she literally tell her kids be ready to pack your bags why killing him for leaving her if she wanted to do it herself ?!
sounds like it was mutually abusive
Amazes me how many ignorant comments and people exist here regarding steroids.
Sounds to me like she gave him a second shot to make sure he's dead cause if he was abusing her she wouldn't want him to live and get his revenge on her.

I watched the documentary. It was very good . I do believe she was abused by her husband . But the fact she continued to stay in a marriage with her 2 minor children who were also mistreated baffles me . The obsession she had for him was unnatural. His last affair he planned on leaving sally and I think the abuse along with the affair made her snap . Self defense perhaps . But the second shot to the face was repercussion for years of abuse . Definitely worth watching !

The 2nd shot being a reload of the weapon is why she didn't walk. That's why the jury had no choice but to give her something. Even if a lesser charge than what she ended up getting. Reasonable doubt went out of the window when you go to another room reload and shoot someone already downed in the face.

I was like this, too. I didn't know about her story or the case. I was all for all her, but when I heard about her husband cheating, her beating women up, the second gunshot to the face and him wanting to leave. I didn't feel sorry for her. The jury was right on the second-degree murder charge. I just felt sorry for her kids, though. They had to deal with some major trauma that followed them into adulthood.
@uh-sf4fb
Жыл бұрын
Ha! Well, if you remember... some of those people actually deserved it. Apparently the mail man talked bad to her kids. One parent apparently slapped her son. Sally acted as a mother of rage to protect her children. I agree that violence is never the answer, but I do believe that Sally was a strong mama bear, not to be screwed with. The mother that protects her children at all costs even if it means hurting people who hurt her children. Its understandable.
She only went jail for 25 years. If he kills her he will life in perison
