Why did I let myself get so fat? why do people get so fat?

Ойын-сауық

this video was pre-recorded before I went in for surgery. I'm still in the hospital but sent this one to go live so you guys could see it while I was gone!
I can't really speak for other people but the reason I let myself get so overweight is simply because I didn't care. Worse, I was self destructive and didn't really want to be around. So I used food as a self destructive tool to do all of this damage.

I had bypass surgery in 2002. Day of surgery I was 476 pounds. On the 1 year anniversary of the operation I was 215lbs! I did everything they told me too. Exercised. Etc. if you do that you'll have no problems. If you guys have any questions message me. I may do a video on my experience on my channel if enough people are interested.

Sounds like there was plenty of food in the house and to be 'abused by his mother through food' seems abit dramatic, seems abit strange.. sometimes i think he makes it all up to try and convince himself its not his fault and is not just a greedy lazy pig.

My mom has started doing workouts and I am super proud of her, she has been cutting a lot of things out of her diet and she pushed those things out of her life. I started working out when I was 12 years old and I am still on that workout plan. My mom told me how I was one of the people that inspired her to start exercising. I'm proud that I'm a part of that.

This is one of the most profoundly sad videos I have ever seen. First off, I'm so sorry you had such a tough beginning and that you dealt with so much abuse. But, you should feel so proud of how far you've come! If you can go from the absolute depths of hell and come out the other side and want to get better and put so much effort into doing so, that is one hell of an achievement! I've been struggling with mental illness only for a short while, but I've been to the brink and come back and you inspire me to keep going to therapy and keep getting better, so thank you. I wish you every success, you've more than earned it.

Boogie, I can relate a lot with how you feel, the self destructive behavior, the mental health issues, everything. I'm 28 and I've recently decided to make a change and try and get healthy. I've quit the online games I was addicted to, started working out and taking care of myself and just overall trying to make a change. That being said I just wanted to thank you for this video in particular. It's very important to know that there are others out there who have struggled with the same things and more importantly that it's beatable. Hopefully the changes both you and I are making will be long term, because like you I've been feeling so much better. Take care my friend.

I'm coming to this video late, but...Thank you so much. I could never vocalize it, but you put into words what I could never accept or even admit to myself. I year or so ago I finally felt that want to live. After realizing that I probably have many years left. I don't want to continue living with my old friend Misery. I want to enjoy every moment that i have left. To do that I need to shed my excess "baggage". I choose the fitness route because that is the type of life that I want. I've had a brief taste of life being fit. Those were the only 2 years of life that I can recall being truly happy and content. I want to feel that again. I am slowly learning to enjoy food without using it as a flail or a means to facilitate my escape. I struggle with it. The fitness part is very intimidating, but I continue on. Thanks for your open and honest words.

Hey boogie, I stumbled upon this video after Obese To Beast shared it. Being someone who was 320 lbs when I was 16, and someone who has lived with eating issues his entire life even through becoming a personal trainer and a nutrition coach, I totally understand what you are going through. I am so proud of you for doing this for yourself bro, I know you can overcome this shit, the road is tough but you can do this. If you need any advice as far as nutrition or exercise goes, please please please reach out to me I would love to help you bro. You're an incredible individual for putting yourself out there like this, so many people need to hear this. Thank you thank you thank you!

Boogie this is what I needed to hear. I am 5 foot 240 pounds. I was working nutrisystem last year but my mom died. I knew that I wasn't able to do it after she died. But what you said right there, I know I'm ready to do it mentally, that's where I'm at now. I have not had my mom for a year and four months. She was my pilar of strength, my everything. But I don't want to die the way she did. She suffered for two years and suffered in other ways her whole life. I know she doesn't want that for me and I don't want it either. So you and I will work every day to get our shit together. I started nutrisystem yesterday and this time I'm gonna stay on it until I get down to a healthy wait and then some. Thank you.

Sharing your experiences is real value to people.. I myself am self-destructive... And i've struggled to quit the things that have started to cause me harm and discomfort... Having people speak on this is great to hear.. How people got out is even better.. Mine is more of the illegal kind.

We had very similar past experiences to get where we are now. I wish nothing but the best for you, I hope that you are recovering well. Life is a journey, as cheesy as it sounds. hey boogie man, you are a huge inspiration to me, and oher people throughout the world. you helped me alot, even if you didn't know it. when i was diagnosed with RRMS in march of 2017, i was depressed to no avail, my best friend just left me, and i realized that i might be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life. i gained about 30 pounds from 120 to about 160. i want you to know that ive followed you for a long time, and when you say things like "get your shit together" it really is a wake up call to people like me, and other people who have been suffering to get up and try to get your life on the right track again. and i want to thank you for that.

I have friends who ask me to spend time with them, but I never do because I keep thinking all the possible ways I could embarrase myself. Many times I have tried to gather strength and be somehow proud of what I am, but every time I just fall back to depression. Good luck Boogie with fixing your life.

Or there are the people that are out of it and were once in it, and they're giving you tips or whatever on how to get out. But they don't really remember what it was like to be in that situation. I was 300+ lbs at age 15 and was miserable. I too wanted to eat myself to death. I am now 24 and 150 ish lbs, and have been really loving eating healthy food. When you said you're as determined to get your health up now compared to when you wanted to diminish it, I teared up because I really feel that. I am so proud of you, we all are. As someone who also has several emotional and mental issues this really spoke to me. I found that I could heavily relate to going through both mental and physical issues. It is never easy and it is something that will never end in any real sense. Boogie the progress you have made and continue to make is an inspiration to me. It shows that with the help of loved ones and self-determination that you can overcome even the darkest parts of yourself and your past. I was honestly have a shitty day and was depressed about my situation in life and felt like I would never be able to achieve my dreams so why bother even trying. Your video showed me that one of the biggest obstacles that you have to take on is your own mindset and that you should never stop trying even when everything in your head and body tells you that you should. From a fan who finds you an inspiration, Thank you.

I have never watched this channel but this is one of the best videos i have ever seen on this subject, the other major problem with a food addiction is that you need food to survive so every day you wake up and are immediately reminded that you need to eat, and then you do and then you cant stop. It makes it so incredibly hard to try and cut down and trying to eat healthy foods is not only expensive it also doesn't taste good. but the fact that you have realized your problems and are facing them head on is really cool.

Really nice video. You're a very intelligent person and I enjoy hearing you speak. My son is struggling with alcoholism, and it's leading him down a path that ends in misery and death. It is killing me inside. I just suggested to him to watch this video and substitute food with alcohol. The things that you say cross all boundaries and apply to people no matter what their problems are. My hope is that he figures out just what is eating at his very core and can come to terms with it and come out OK in his skin. Keep on keepin' on, boogie, and know that you are helping more people than you know.

Amazing video! Im proud of you as well. Allthough I have never been in your place (expecialy as a adolescent), I have been slightly overweight periodically on my 18 years on this planet. My only advice to you is too REALLY picture who you want to be and fight everyday and night to become them. Fight as hard as you can, and its okay to be hard on your self when you dont. Set extream "lines" that you will not cross. Maybe only drink water, every, no matter what. Or never at a fast food establishment. You may suffer, but it is nessisary. I belive in you and your doing a good job. Keep it up.

Watching your video again today, I feel like I'm starting to finally conquer some of those demons. BOOGIE you are so beautiful strong and courageous for being who you are today with all of the things that you have been through. To have lived through all of the things you have been through and to know your flaws, and take action against them, but also share the human side of you to millions of people. Just words cannot express how incredible you are. Many people on this world are not mature or strong enough to admit to themselves (yet alone others) about their own demons. I do not share the level of pain or hurt that you have, but knowing and what you have been through and how you are bettering yourself as a person and ADMITTING to yourself and KNOWING those flaws to change them around and be the better man really inspires me. I have a list of inspirational people on my life and you are in that top 10 list. :) Rooting for you

Ok. Holy crap. What an eye opening 'Ted Talk' here! I had no idea about the win win situation you had in your mind about getting to die early AND enjoying the one thing that made you happy. That is seriously such an interesting statement. Another thing that shocked me is what your mom did to you, bless your heart. But most of all, the mental click you had and the courage to reach out to reality and tell people about it I think is one of the most amazing things I have seen anyone do. Look forward to seeing your journey through physical recovery! We have already seen the mental recovery, and we know you can do it and push through >3 take care and all the best. Thank you. Thank you for this. Our stories are eerily similar. I never even realized that I had been in self-destruct mode until you said it. I was 12 when I first realized I wanted to die and tried for the first time. Like you, I couldn't take the easy route... so I set out on the longest, hardest one I could find. Now here I am, 39 years old and for the first time discovering that I actually do want to live. Over the last year my relationship with food has dramatically changed. There are very few things I can even stomach and fewer still that I actually find myself craving on occasion. The things I do crave, when I indulge, don't seem to be as wonderful as I remember them to be and leave me feeling... meh. I've been a subscriber for a bit now and I will freely admit that it is this journey that brought me to your channel and not any of the previous gaming and what-not (sorry!) I wish you wouldn't apologize for sharing it, but completely understand the compulsion to do so. I suppose the majority of your fan base found you thru other avenues and you are afraid to lose their interest. You shouldn't worry about it! You are a beautiful soul Boogie!! Thank you so very much for being brave enough to put yourself out there for the world. I know, truly understand, how very difficult that must continue to be even now that you've been doing it so long. I admire your courage! And once again, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I don't "hate" Francis, but I very much prefer Boogie himself too. Francis videos can be entertaining every now and then but its generally not my kind of content, Boogie's serious stuff on the other hand I think is enriching and provides wonderful perspective, the kind of stuff that will broaden one's own perspective from taking it in is what I really like.

This is a really insightful video, but insight can only take you so far. The one thing that it sounds like could still trip you up is - you say you're motivated, and that's awesome, but what you didn't mention - for the times when motivation runs out (and it always does, sometimes, that's only human, motivation is a finite resource) - you still have to have dedication and just plain build better habits. I genuinely hope the best for you, man.

It's surprising but life's knocks can make some people stronger over time. Knowing you can get through a low point really does help you survive when you hit it again. If you're lucky to live long enough you realise we're all fighting our personal battles. We're not alone. Thanks for the video Boogie, it makes so much sense but only cause you survived and got to this point in your life to be able to look back and take proper stock. People suffering should take serious note, there does come a point when you're truly glad you didn't 'check out' sooner.

I think this is the second or third video I've ever seen from you (I think the first one was one where you were ranting like crazy about a videogame, maybe Destiny?- and man did that scare me ;-) ). Anyway, today I came to your channel because I saw that you have over 4 Mio. subscribers (holy shit!) and I was really curious to see what kind of content you publish - so I picked around a bit and found this video from you and man! You have my respect - I will probably not watch so many other videos but this one alone with so much honesty, heart and a good message is worth those viewers that you have - I wish you the best !

Watching the video and reading the description, I never knew how much I related to Boogie. Sure, I'm not as overweight as Boogie but the idea's the same. I just never cared, I was almost nihilistic. I've been overweight for years and just never looked at it as harmful. Unlike Boogie, however, I was fortunate enough to not have to have gone through the abuse he did, but I still to this day try and change my eating habits. And he's right, there is no excuse for doing what I'm doing.

Fantastic and courageous video boogie. No one will truly ever know what someone else's mental illness is like. That's why it's infuriating when I see people comment on it and it's consequences, like it's the suffering person's fault. It's such a selfish and narcissistic way to go about life. Making the person feel worse isn't going to solve anything. Judging from the type of people that act like that however, I bet it gets them off in some sickening way.

But I genuinely want to see him succeed, I can also understand why he did what he did. Hi, thank you for your video. Food addiction is the same as any other addiction and addicts get into their mind that they’d rather have their addiction and die early than give it up. I too struggle with food addiction and you made an excellent point that it takes effort to go get the food and eat and eat until you’re so full that you feel sick. It takes a lot of effort so I like the idea that if you put the same amount of effort into healthy habits and eating it would be beneficial. Could you do a video about how as a person gets bigger they have body dysmorphia? Other eating disorders have this but no one talks about how as someone who struggles with food addiction they don’t realize they’re getting as big as they actually are. Thanks!
