talent need to be supported in the right environment to bloom at the right time. The culture, language, teammates and player attitude affects their career. I don't understand how these players were unable to see de bruyne's potential back then. I guess it's not every one who plays football, really understands football. I mean, I watched chelsea's first game of the season (probably against Stoke City or something) in the 2013/14 season or so, where Mourinho played Hazard, oscar, de bruyne, and I remember thinking, this guy (de bruyne) is probably the best player on the pitch. His incisive passing, movement, vision, everything was spot on. Wondered why he wasn't playing much after. Even mourinho said that he could see his potential but just couldn't manage him because he always wanted to play.

BL helped KDB change his attitude and mindset.

Exactly my thought. Maybe Mikel (for an amazing defensive midfielder he was) does not have an eye for talent. First time I watched de Bruyne was at Bremen against Bayern in 6:1 loss in 2012-13. He was even in that game was evidently far better than his Werder teammates and on level with the Bayern players. Bremen were thrashed but de Bruyne scored his goal on his own. Of course, I don't watch Premier League so I can't say how good he was at Chelsea but if he was at the similar level to Bayern's treble winning squad of 2012-13 season which thrashed Barca 7:0, I can't believe Mikel couldn't see his talent.

No matter how good you are but if you not doing your best you are nothing. , because everyone want to play and its not fair to everybody in the team when you make someone because of your liking but did not perform well. Its about mentality. Later Mou himself said he know the potential of kdb and do not want him to go but to be patience try harder wait for his chance. Kdb can not accept that and want to leave so mou let him go... And kdb on wolfsburg change a lot the way he is playing - attitude also the eager to prove something.. So it is what it is... Thx u

There's an interview with harry redknapp where he talks about the time he took over at QPR and was told that taarabt is rubbish, and how playing him would get the manager sacked! Redknapp went to him and told taarabt that he would be starting the upcoming game! He also told him that if he played badly, he would still start him the next game! And if he played badly in that game, he would still start him in the game after! Moral of the story is, de bruyne needed the tranquility and serenity of mind knowing the manager believed in him, and that he wouldn't be dropped every time he had a bad game! He was moody and was desperate to leave because he knew mourinho wasn't that manager for him, and that he had to go elsewhere to find freedom to express himself!

One can point towards cristante who is having a great season, but he was terrific before he moved to Roma. He turned paredes into a water carrying bully who just going around kicking people. Better than everyone who wore a Chelsea Jersey? Were you born yesterday? My blood boils when I read comments like yours. Greater players have played for Chelsea. De Bruyne plays for Belgium why didn't he perform those wonders for them at the world cup? My point is that Man City and Guardiola are the biggest reasons for his extraordinary success. It's not down to him alone. For example: Ronaldo left Man U and went to Madrid and performed even better. Messi for all his greatness went to PSG and dropped levels. It simply means Barcelona somehow helpd Messi.

Sometimes, being in a team where you can fully enjoy and express yourself without fear of losing your place if you mess up one game, it helps a player develop. He just came to chelsea at the wrong time where they had big names you cannot justify being on the bench. He wasn't at that level, same with Salah

for some players they don't reach their peak level until they've been kicked in the teeth and shown that their true talent level isn't good enough. too bad for chelsea, they had to be the stepping stone that forced de bruyne to get better.

Some players will never just do well in some teams. It doesn't matter how good they are. Kaka flopped at Madrid, Sneidjer too, and many more. It doesn't mean Madrid is not a good team to develop, it means at times it is not just working.

Everyone at Chelsea thought this guy is a bum luckily he changed his mentality and created himself a great career.

Kevin is a moody guy, you have to kid gloves it and if you do that, you’ll get the de Bruyne that everyone knows today. Jose is not a mind reader so you cant entirely blame him but i think he’s said before that in hindsight he should’ve tried to understand him better. In reality, De Bruyne has turned out being a very huge mistake to have made. Imagine a clicking Hazard and De Bruyne for Chelsea, Jose would still be at Chelsea now. De Bruyne is enigmatic, brilliant and highly sensitive.
