    I once used tinder to set up a dnd group and it was fucking hilarious. I was up front about it and met each person individually first then we all got together and went bowling so we could get to know each other. We played for almost a full year before I moved and it was fantastic. I'm actually going to a wedding for two of the players next year

    Asking for a friend, do you have to date someone in order to get to know them? Or do you start to date someone you know? Because its become a sudden realization that people dont use the friend zone as a first step to dating. Everyone can date differently, but to me, if you cant be my friend first, I certainly wont date you.

    You can start with dating and you can also ask out someone who's been a friend and you (or your friend) got to like them. There's no rule. But the latter one might be riskier since it may ruin the friendship, but also imo the possibility of success is higher since there's already trust between friends. One of my friends recently made a move on me but I wasn't interested but we're still good and will be so I'd say if you (or your friend) like someone you should tell them and see where it goes. Just don't be overwhelming.

    It really depends on you and the circumstances. I found that with dating apps, I was more anxious or didn't want to see them again, because the common ground was lacking. When you meet someone irl, you will see them interact with others and they are in some way part of your life (friends, school, work, etc.). The only successful relationship over all those years of online dating I have found in real life. We were friends first, so I knew he was a decent person

    I don't go to Europe ever or ever will but I heard people say that's more normalized over their. In the states you can end up dating a friend in your group but it's almost frowned upon... for some reason society instilled in woman a strange man is a better bet than someone you've known... or else you a pick me loser.

    Studies show that irl communities oftentimes have more in common than internet ones funnily. Imagine a Star Wars community for example where everybody loves Star Wars. They may have that in common but it's likely that you have more things in common with your high school class (like cultural things, intellect, reactions to stimuli) than with the internet community.

I saw her across the field and since I was brand new i figured no one would notice if i ditched my class to go meet her with her class group. Anddddd now were both 25, been together ever since, we did have a couple years of mutual break to get our lives together and focus on ourselves right out of highschool, and I think that was a good move. I was talking to her about this kind of stuff yesterday and she said "Idk about the young lads nowadays but even now AND back in high school getting with you felt like catching the last chopper out of Vietnam when it comes to the dating scene" And I feel the exact same way.

My best friend has matched with many guys, yet none of those relationships lasted past a few months at most. And most of those guys turned out to be abusive or neglectful. Bumble is actually the worst dating app of them all if you have self-esteem issues. What women on there will do is they will swipe until they get a match, and only then decide if they're actually interested. Then they check your profile, say something like "eww no" and unmatch. Or they just never message. So the app goes, "hey, you got a match!" and you start to think "well shit, maybe I won't die alone after all" and you get your hopes up, then click into the app to see that the match is gone already. Or you go in and have no choice but to sit and wait just to see the match time out or disappear sometime later. That hurts easily 10x more than not getting any matches at all. And even if you do get a match, you know what the first message is 90% of the time? "hey." So you're stuck doing all the fucking work to carry the conversation anyway.

  • @IronicHavoc

    @IronicHavoc

    Also "hey" is better than nothing. The issue he described isn't "carrying the conversation" it's getting ghosted or not knowing when to initiate. Like what do you want, someone to text you a paragraph screed off rip? IDK man I feel like if you're in this place mentally no dating app is gonna be right for you. Which I guess was your point about the whole self esteem thing? But even given that, you do come across particularly bitter here. I wish you luck

More than 50% of marriages end in divorce, and that doesn't even account for the possibility of your partner dying soon in an industrial accident/car crash/mass shooting/robbery gone wrong Maybe don't throw the lucky tie away just yet...

Go pay the $60 to access the study itself before you comment on the merits of its data. It's actually an extremely interesting insight into the minds of those who use dating apps, especially viewing it as a 10 year happily married woman who has never used a dating app in my life, but who has spent an inordinate number of hours listening to friends complain about them.

    Grindr is eternally hookup-focused but there are people who try to say "friends only" or "looking for a bf." They're definitely the minority but they do exist. The thing that keeps it unique can also be the biggest issue. Anyone can message anyone at any time. There's no match system. And sending unsolicited "things" is allowed and sometimes feels encouraged by the app. Upside is unlimited blocks. Also they've expanded on accepted gender identities the past few years. Gay/bi cis men are still their main target audience but there are a lot of trans people and the occasional cis women recently. A lot of degenerate behavior and a surprising number of actual predators but overall very accepting of the entire LGBT community and still the most popular app of its kind.
