Why Damon Wayans Never Became Eddie Murphy - Here's Why

Комедия

comedyhype.com/ - In the early start of his career, Damon Wayans would instantly get compared to fellow SNL cast member Eddie Murphy. Studios would attempt to mold Wayans as the next Eddie, however that wasn't the case and here's why. Instagram: @ComedyHype & Twitter: @ComedyHype_

Hollywood and Critics always want to put our people in boxes. They approach us cause they either liked what they saw or heard but then they want to change you & mold you into what that see you as. Sorry, it don't work like that. If you like them when you first seen them, then go ahead and work with them as they are...don't try and change them. Dude, his family and a ton of his characters and roles are iconic still to this day. From "The Last Boyscout" to "Major Payne" he is forever etched into the culture and our comedic memories...both are still showing somewhere on TV, right now, and even more significantly being watched and enjoyed! And his "My Wife and Kids" sitcom showcased all kinds of powerhouse talent, also still beloved, watched and enjoyed by millions. Why be like Eddie M. when you can just be yourself and become a living legend, In Living Color ?!? Y'all already know, "Homie don't play dat!"👊🏿🤡🤬

Damian took the Malcolm X approach and did for himself & his family, look how he benefited. The Wayans singly handled created more opportunities for comedians, dancers and actors than SNL ever would. I don't even remember the last time I actually saw an SNL episode and honestly don't even care. SNL is like baked unseasoned mayo marinade chicken with some bland roni rice while ILC is like soul food, flavorful fried chicken with oven macroni & cheese with some green beans on the side. We as black people need to make our own opportunities and stop begging everyone else to get a spot in theirs.

Damon Wayon, is cool as Damon Wayons. He was just another one of our very funny comedians. We had so many of different varieties, we didn't need another Eddie. Eddie was just the best after Richard. Back then originality was what it was all about, having your own style, and that was in every form of entertainment.

Lorne Michaels did not want another EDDIE MURPHY even when he had Damon, Chris Rock and Tim Meadows. They did not dominate like Murphy, Lorne likes his own stars to be white.

Lorne did not like that Eddie became a distraction. SNL had some breakout stars that went on and did great, but Eddie was to SNL like Jordan was to the NBA. Not too many producer's egos can handle that. And Lorne's couldn't.

@GROWN WOMAN - The difference is you know of Eddie Murphy and SNL because of KZread. The stuff that was going on behind the scenes with Eddie, Joe Piscopo the cast, Lorne Michaels, and Dick Ebersol was a soap opera itself played out thought The New York Post newspaper. Also learn that Eddie was on SNL from 1980-1984. That's four years of watching him go from a cast member who had no lines in sketches, to saying maybe a sentence in a sketch, to damn near the writers feeling they need him to say a sentence or just something like, "Damn man" to keep the audience engaged in the sketch. Now STFU and learn something.

  • @thespadestable

@Alex Kanyima - As former musician and band director G. E. Smith said about SNL, it became all about money after the third show. The first two was about being funny, after that, money. Eddie's presence was money to the show and NBC. Eddie showed how invaluable he was when Nick Noltie was scheduled to host, got arrested during an alcohol related incident, and Eddie was asked to host while being an active show member and the show was a financial success. Once that happened, it's been claimed that was the turning point, because it showed he had outgrew the show. There was once an opening skit where Eddie was rumored to be sick and could not do the show, and the cast members were debating they could fill his vacancy. One said they could do Gumby (l'm Gumby, Dammit), another imitated Buckwheat. As I said, you all where not living or had been old enough to see for yourself it play out in real time.

Keenan Ivory Wayans and Eddie Murphy are friends and he wrote for Eddie on Raw so I don't think Damon being in a movie with Eddie was coincidental. When Eddie was on SNL Loren Michaels had left the show so Eddie had more creative control. The question is if Loren Michael had stayed would Eddie have had the same freedom? It seems the industry only likes 1 black comedian at a time.. They're always comparing the new to the "old" They did it with Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby /Richard Richard/Eddie Murphy.. They do it with Kevin Hart and the new Comedians of today.. Godfrey talks about that in another video. Producer's looking for the next "Kevin Hart".. It's like with rap artists they're always pitted against each other..
