“The Agenda was more important than the Story.” You really hit the nail on the head with that one. It really is the whole reason these stories have failed. 🤔 Not to mention, the comics that have been good, the writers actually enjoyed writing. They wanted the story to be great and that was it. The message was just a bonus, not the mission.

Kenneth Satria Passion is one thing, but results are everything. If the author is truly passionate, they’ll just rewrite it as much as it takes until something good comes of it. For professionals, failure is a lesson not a dead end. Even Stan Lee had several failures before Spider Man finally took off.

Oddly enough, that might be what Marvel is banking on. They’re just throwing out whatever they can until something sticks. A mock version of what Stan Lee went through. Spider Man actually went out as Lee was going out of business.

The truth is usually very nuanced, and all we can do is to question how close to reality something is, with morals it becomes more complicated, so for an author to believe THE truth is very hard, still, criticizing THEIR truth is something all authors should do before attempting to convey a message.

The thing is, they COULD take stories with characters like these and make a good comic run out of them. But they won't, because that would require the characters being HUMAN, having flaws, and having character development that saw them growing up and understanding that the world is a much different place than they thought. We won't get that, of course, what we'll get is a bunch of Mary Sues competing to see who can be the MOST BESTEST EVAR! among the group while easily beating villains that even the big boys would struggle with.

Another good example of a political conversation is that Arrow episode where they took on gun control. About half the cast was pro- gun control and the other half was anti-gun control. Absolutely EVERYONE got their chance to explain his or her position, often holding up at least one story from their personal experience with guns to explain how they reached their position. There were no caricatures. Not one of the anti-gun control characters said anything to the effect of "Yee-haw! I hate gun control because I like shootin' people!" Not one of the pro-gun control people screeched "There is NO reason for ANYONE to own a gun because guns are scary!" Everyone's arguments were logical, coherent, and made sense from their perspective. Best of all? Nobody "won" the debate. Nobody's mind changed. The pro-gun control people were still pro-gun control, the anti-gun control people were still anti-gun control. It's as if the writer was actually admitting that he or she didn't know what the answer was to this issue and simply presented different positions and trusted the audience to make their own decisions on where they stood in this ongoing debate.

At one point there was an episode of Supergirl that was about gun control. Basically the plot is that civilians had DEO weapons and the agency was trying to figure out which agent was selling them on the side only to learn that the original seller was the one selling above military grade weapons to civilians. His motive? *Profit above consequence.* The episode eventually ended with John removing all lethal fire arms from the agency and replacing them with non-lethal weapons and declaring that gun violence is a problem for our country so their doing their part. I don't quite know where I stand in gun laws and lean slightly closer to pro-gun control but that episode pissed me off enough that I just stopped watching the show.

Dune by Frank Herbert is hailed as pretty much the best sci fi book ever written. It has a lot to say about a lot of different subjects, but in his forwards, Herbert states very clearly that a novel's first priority is to entertain, and if it fails to entertain then it fails in every other regard as well. Herbert had that figured out in the 1960s. 60 years later "professionals" still don't get it in comic books.

For creative people - they want to create, these fiends simply want to manipulate. They don't create, they attach themselves to that which exists and then attempt to twist it to serve their purposes. They don't create interesting characters for the purpose of "representation", they simply change what already exists. I.E. they could have reinvigorated an independent Sif comic series - they created female Thor instead. I've pointed out to other people at various times: if the miscreants really wanted all the things they claim they want, muh wepwesentashun, what they produce would sell - they'd buy the movie tickets and the books and the comics and the games and the TTRPGs, etc. etc. Instead, the sales of all of the above tank every single time - because even they themselves don't buy it. What they say is a lie and what they do is the truth: it's not about making things available which are supposedly not - the justification they use for their entryism - it's purely and wholly about controlling what other people have access to. They don't want to buy what they produce - they want to control what is permissible to be produced: that's why they use entryism to take over every form of media, control. Every form of media that they produce or manipulate turns to absolute garbage not just because of their inhuman ideology: but because producing an entertaining form of media never factors into the equation - it's completely about producing propaganda. They're not interested in creating any form of entertainment: they're interested in ensuring every form of entertainment pushes, reinforces and adheres to their ideology. -A creative person sets down to a drafting table and creates a money efficient way to structure bridges which will greatly increase prosperity by decreasing travel time for commerce and movement of persons. -A manipulator rises through a city bureaucracy to tax travelers and merchants attempting to cross the bridges, in order to ensure that their own coffers remain full and that the correct people, who either benefit them or who they benefit through bribery for their own ends, will stay in power. I'm of two minds on the topic of these entryists: 1) I like seeing them fail miserably but 2) I'm not the type of person who actually wants to see the world burn. Sad state of affairs, punished with seeing everything of value be twisted and corrupted but rewarded with watching the cleansing fire destroy that which was too good for fiends to have gotten their claws on to begin with. If Faust had a "Rosencrantz and Gildenstein Are Dead" play telling the entire story from the point of view of Mephistopheles: I imagine he'd look on at the events in a similar way. I can't tell if this is the best timeline, or just the strangest one. ¯\_(•_•)_/¯

Loki turns Thor into Freya's form (Thrymr was ransoming Mjolnir against her hand in marriage), Thor gets Mjolnir back, and TWIST Loki doesn't turn Thor back and maybe finds a way to betray him instead now not only do we have a female Thor, we have a transgendered Thor. Bonus diversity points and potentially still entertaining as he either seeks a way back or tries to adapt to his new form. instead we get Jane Foster, a character who hadn't been usedin any significant manner since the 1960s because fans really didn't like her, who I had COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN EVEN EXISTED. The thing is liberals are usually creatively bankrupt. As someone who wants to be a game dev and an author I believe entertainment should be all about escapism. Yet I'm also writing my first book/novel. It's basically a science fantasy novel where tech and magic are used interchangeably. Not to mention there will be some political parody and the Mary Sue trope being played up as a villain that possesses one of the main characters.

@@zacharygadzinski3147 Quote: *"I believe entertainment should be all about escapism."* I won't knock you for thinking so - but I do disagree. Consider the concept of story telling in and of itself, we have epics, sagas, morality plays and the tried and true heroes tale which depending on which variant: can be any of the above. Nearly *all* of those, however, A to Z, almost all of them are and have been allegorical for real life. So I won't knock you for thinking entertainment *should* be escapism, or that your personal preference in entertainment is escapism: but the majority of story telling throughout human history has been allegorical. Even right down to myths, legends and even religious doctrines - depending upon who you ask at any rate. I don't have any issues with escapism or allegory: I don't think they are mutually exclusive. Side note: tech and magic - use your gamer sense to hammer out a solid system for how that works and balances: that way you can create more intricacies for your characters in the novel - it'll help a great deal with the word building portion of things. That also opens up the avenue for turning the novel into it's own TTRPG or video game RPG: if people like the novel because it's detailed and expansive and a fascinating place to think about - they may want to play the table top version or video game version there of. Worked for games workshop when they created warhammer and as a gamer you'll already know and understand balancing issues - which they didn't, so you should be able to avoid a tremendous number of the pitfalls they facedived into. In any case, I wish you the best of luck both in your future career as an author and as a game developer.

@@ObservingLibertarian You have a valid point. Usually entertainment like sagas, hero's tales and the like have a fair amount of escapism. As for how magic works in my novel alongside technology, I think basing magic on quantum physics and how energy can't be destroyed only transformed would work. Yet if the novel does become successful I may turn it into a D&D setting once I get into D&D and start DMing. Yet as of right now I'm working on the first revision before I add more to it. @@zacharygadzinski3147 Far be it from me to presume on making suggestions or recommendations: I don't write fiction, but if I may make a request - please watch "The Irregular at Magic High School". It's a good example of how magic and technology can coexist inside a fictional world, complete with a display of how the two are studied and advanced by the inhabitants of that world. Very good world building in that regard. If you map it out early - in terms of what does what and why and how it works - it'll allow you to write interesting and complex characters. I.E. You already know how everything fits together which means you can refine what goes on in the story to have a consistent world rather than pulling cooldown buttons out of the blue to get out of rough spots in the story. The more consistent - the more fascinating it'll be for readers because they'll think about how characters *might* make it out of situations based on how well they (the reader) understands the world in the book. That's when you've really got your reader hooked: because that's when their imaginations start working on how they would handle things inside that fantasy realm. Then again, I've never written any books so any advice on the topic is probably moot or even erroneous. I don't even read much fiction, but for love or money, don't do the star trek maneuver [ youtu . be / 4bBD5yyT-s0 ].

In it he must find a luchador turn newly elected governor of Texas' missing daughter, while also trying to find out who it was that attacked him! Spoilers: it was a robot stolen by the governor's political opponent. Arc two is your typical high stakes fighting tournament. Here we are introduce to Paul, the street basketball playing Kung Fu master, and Gabriella, the MMA Belle of the Brawl! Long John wins of course Between arcs two and three I want to do a Miraculous Ladybug crossover, but that's neither here nor there. Arc three is his war on drugs! The governor's daughter, Megan, gets involved with drugs and the drug dealing kingpin kills Long John's dog. He foregoes his jolly green garbs in favor of grim grey ones. This is just my excuse for a costume change, like Spiderman's black suit. Long John for the first time actually kills people this time around, going for a stealthy Batman like approach as he raids the base of operations. He even tricks the king pin into snorting anthrax by making him think it was an olive branch line of cocaine. Arc four deals with Megan being pregnant with the kingpin's child, her and Long John start dating, her giving birth, relapsing into her drug addiction, and finally dying of a drug overdose. Arc five is Long John's custody battle for Megan's daughter, Monica, against the kingpin's brother. Arc six is him coaching Monica's little league team against her school bully's team. And finally a one shot issue of a hypothetical ending where it tells how Long John raises her. From birthday parties, to training her in lucha libre so she can have a match against her childhood bully who has tormented her into highschool (here she takes on the stage name of Esmeralda, on account of her green eyes and attire), all the way to Long John passing on his company that he built from across the series to her. And that's just the long story short of it! I didn't even mention his occasional tag team partner, El Churro, who sells churros at the concession stand when it's not his turn to fight, or the time travel arc where Long John is transported to Medieval London where he is mistaken for a court jester on account of that being his whole wrestling motif.

There is also times that those people will attack other stories if you want anyone that writes a character with flaws or kill them that isn’t straight white male with no mental illnesses, though thankfully the teachers will usually defend the script writer with the fact they have experience in the real world of what makes good stories and what doesn’t.

"By bringing shame to a person, how can you expect to make him a better man?" This is one of the fundamental basics of leadership, by the way. That it's so difficult to really grok is why so few people are actually good leaders - most people are perfectly happy to tear someone down to make themselves and their little 'in' group feel better about themselves, and _not_ doing that isn't as immediately gratifying as praising what someone does well while privately correcting what they do poorly. Not one god-be-damned time did I see a punishment actually bring about a change in someone's character - at least, not a change for the better. There was a significant turnaround in my problem children when I realized this and stopped trying to punish every minor little infraction as my platoon sergeant wanted. They never really became good soldiers, but they got to be good enough. It's also why so few people can really train their cats very well. When you punish your cat, she's only associating the punishment with you, not with what you think you're punishing her for. I have five cats, all of whom are well-behaved, sociable little sweethearts of the sort who can win over even people who dislike cats because they've only met snooty asshole cats. I've never once struck my cats, and the only times I've yelled at them was when they were in imminent danger.

After recently rewatching Code Geass, probably my favorite anime of all time, to see if it still held up a decade on, a point you mentioned really hammered home why the first season holds up and the second... eh... let's be charitable and say it took the second season time to find its footing. For the uninitiated, Code Geass is an alternate history where the Britannian Empire basically tried to take over the world, and the main plot takes place in Japan, or Area 11 as it was rebranded by its Britannian conquerors and occupiers. Naturally, the theme of racism is all over the place. What sets this apart from a Fake Holiday work is that, not only are the opinions on the optimal relations between these two groups highly varied across the cast, but the cast themselves are highly varied in their societal roles, showing that there is a deep nuance in societal thought on the subject, best exemplified by its two leads whom, in spite of their heritage, take up the *opposite* stance you'd think they would. On one side there's Lelouch, an exiled Britannian prince, who looks down on the feeble Japanese rebels and turns them into an organized army ultimately to find answers about who killed his mother, damn the cost in human life. (The answers turn out to be dumb, but hey, that's season 2...) Then there's Suzaku, son of the Japanese prime minister (whom he killed to stop the violence) who tries to work for Japanese liberation peacefully within the Britannian political system. And those two are just the central characters. You've got heaps of supporting characters like Kallen (a resentful rebel), Euphemia (a Britannian princess who genuinely if ineptly wants to help), Nina (a Britannian civilian turned terrified extremist by the actions of other Japanese extremists), Lloyd and Rakshata (rival scientists who spend the entire series trying to out-engineer each other), Diethard (a media reporter who recognizes history in the making and wants to be part of it), Jeremiah (a deposed and humiliated Britannian general trying to climb back up the ladder; also arguably the original Orange Man Bad), Shirley (a Britannian civilian whose apathy for the larger political situation relative to her own personal goals does nothing to protect her and those around her from getting collaterally damaged in the fight), and I could go on. Sure there are your faceless nobody mobs of interchangeable racists, terrorists, nobles, and normie doofuses in the middle of it all (I'm just gonna' name drop Rivalz here for no particular reason...), and C.C. (though a critical clue to the bigger story) has jack all to do with any of the politics, but in general you have characters who are all over the board in personality, dispositions, goals, and yes, thoughts on the Japanese. Even the Emperor, shameless Hitler expy that he is, does what he does for a reason. (A *stupid* reason, but again, that's season 2. Think MCU Thanos.) Diversity of thought on racial subjects is one thing, and I certainly agree with JSG on that point, but that's only a starting point. Above all, every character must be a *person* first and a data point on a political graph second. That's what separates the does-not-induce-gag-reflex passable from the truly great.

back when i enjoyed writing, i'd often have my characters challenge each other on a philosophical level for dramatic reasons. by doing so, i challenged my own beliefs. when i was being the most honest in my writing i wound up changing a lot of my views. it seems evident these 'professional' writers aren't challenging themselves. but, it's difficult to do that when you don't have a reasonable grasp of the other side of the story to fairly debate, which is a result of leading an insular life. i believe it's a problem with young writers who just haven't had the life experiences necessary to write compelling characters or scenarios that's not outside their window. if you've never had a child, served in the military, been outside your own state to experience a different culture beyond a restaurant, owned a business, been in a fight, suffered a sickness, been married, worked a job for years you hated to pay your own bills, watched a person die, or really gone through any experience that might change your life, what in the living fuck gives you any right to pretend you have *any* answers? by deviating for whatever reason from nature's plan and sticking your tongue in places most people wouldn't and attending kollij means nothing towards writing good characters and stories. if that's the width and breadth of your experience, i doubt you have anything worthwhile to say most people don't learn as children or in sunday school.

Everyone knows you attract more flies with honey, if you want to convince someone to see things your way you appeal to them. You play on their likes and dislikes to sway them to siding with you. These creators don't even try to do that. They hammer at the reader, outright assuming you're already a bad person. I honestly think they want to make more problems, not solve them. But I don't think they are all aware of it, since awareness of one's own actual actions requires a great deal of introspection and humility, two descriptors very far removed from most people self-identifiying as SJWs. From my own experience, those people have a tendency to view themselves as the hero, or focal center, of an imaginary world that overlaps with the real one. Most of them are like this, which leads their so-called safe spaces to be a perpetual battleground for their oversized egos. That is why they will ultimately fail, no successful movement can contain nothing but prima donnas and protagonists.

They say they're inclusive while ranking people based on their race, gender, and sexuality. Deep down, they know they're full of shit but if they've already managed to get jobs they didn't earn because of their lies, why would they ever choose to reflect or stop? Expanse: the retired general uses the last remaining sample of protocells as a leverage to stop the (short) war between Earth and Mars.) Even games can do this. One of the better games of 2019 was Outer Worlds (yes, I'm aware this is more about concepts): Obsidian didn't say "down with the corporations" it only showed the world filled with two extremes and let you decide. Also, who cares? Sometimes the Right is right, sometimes the Left. It is bullshit to believe that only you are right and a shame someone would carry such an atitude when writing.

When sjws hear Comicsgate say that diversity is a problem in comics, they misunderstand why diversity is a problem. They think Comicsgate hates diversity. But the problem has always been how the activist creators push diversity--not so much the diversity itself. Authors who write with an agenda want to convey their personal beliefs to the reader, and good storytelling isn't necessarily a priority. They tend to write their fictional world through their skewed lens of reality, and they often just want to use comics as a megaphone to lecture people with.

Your point of "the agenda being more important than the story" sums it up perfectly. You have writers being hired that are excited to have a vehicle to push their agendas, rather than write good stories. How many times have we seen such writers get criticism, be unable to take it responsibly, and then lash out foolishly? It is saddening the state the comic industry is in. Comicbook shops are dying, yet Marvel and DC think discount Gen Z x-men and k-pop highschool Batman (respectively) will sell and save comic stores? The industry itself has become a place where writers are having their creativity stifled or attacked for not thinking the 'right way'. One of the results of this, is that more people are being hired based on diversity not talent. I mean, look at the new Children of the Atom trailer- they spent a good minute talking about the writer using writing basics, as if they were revolutionary. What happened to nuance?

As someone who believes in God, I find that the movies do, in fact, cater to and are directed towards people such as myself who share the same views. They fail, however, to find common ground, and, as you said, they portray the characters (the not-so-flawed christians and the unreasonably angered atheists) in a superficial and unrealistic fashion. In the pursuit to "educate" people on certain beliefs and lifestyles, the directors alienate their audience (except for those who completely share the same view) from ever enjoying or at least appreciating their film(s). This applies to almost any type of film director.

Part of the issue with SJW points of focus is that they are hollow. These folks seem to genuinely believe that sexual orientation, race, etc.., are critical elements of a character--that they are a legitimate foundation for their identity. The truth is those facets of a character contribute very little to their identity (and ironically are often the theft of it), and don't add anything significant to a story. On the other hand, if a character is religious, their beliefs can be a driving factor in what they do. Good or bad, right or wrong, religion has proven to be a strong motivator for people and events in history, so it can organically be part of a story without being the focus of it. The same cannot be said for something like homosexuality. Look at Sulu in the third "new" Star Trek. The only reason we know he's gay is because there is a scene of him with his husband during a montage. It kinda had to be shoehorned in--it had no bearing on the narrative and didn't factor into who Sulu was as a character. And there's really no way to explore it organically elsewhere in the story. Short of making Sulu a stereotype or hyper-sexualized, his sexual orientation can't really contribute to the character or his actions. What we find are organic extremes created by the very nature of what SJWs champion. Either a medium mentions or features a female/LGBT/racially "diverse" character which is virtually inconsequential because those characteristics are of little value when it comes to telling a story (a la Sulu in new Trek), or the medium builds the story around said characteristics to artificially make them important. The former is denounced by SJWs as a half-measure and a tease because it never became the focus, and the latter is rejected by everyone else because very few people want a story that is told only to celebrate a lifestyle, sex, or race. The point that no one wants to be preached at is certainly valid, and can be applied to even notions about being a good person. If you want to teach someone a lesson about a certain virtue, you're better off telling a parable or fable rather than trying to create a full-fledged story out of it. Even good characters and dialogue become tiresome if they only serve to teach. I think teaching can be augmented by stories and entertainment, but entertainment can only handle teaching in small, nuanced doses. And ultimately, the lesson has to have genuine value that can be digested by the majority of an audience...and the pillars of SJW core values don't make the cut.

Being a DM at our local Family center, where I regularly dm superheroes campaign for a variety of teens... it made me realize that the comic pros are simply out of touch with reality. Every single teen makes supers like we used to see in the comics (strong, attractive, having a heroic view of what is their purpose, etc) They would never make something stupid like Snowflake or Safespace. Even the most ridiculous and simple heroes have more of a backstory and interesting persona (Ex: a super made out of soap bubbles, who came from an alternate world where everything is made out of bubbles, who can make bubbles to trap enemies or slam them with it, and who want to fit in and find another of his kind, that is the most simple hero I got, and that more of a hero than Capt Woodface) The pros have just lost the plot and forgot that superheroes in comics have to be superheroes, give us a sense of hope, let us escape reality and make us wonder. Instead, they make sure we don't forget how crappy our reality is.

Not to mention negative actions can be rooted in ideas of compassion. You mentioned some people use to good for emancipation but didn't want black people in their family tree. I vaguely remember some movie side story were a guy didn't want his son to marry a black woman but it turned out to be because he didn't want his grand kids to suffer prejudice. Probably not the right call but if I put myself in that position I can relate.

I find it funny I know that your video is going to be good and on point with whatever it is critiquing to such an extent that I just hit "like" within the first 3 seconds and very rarely regret doing so. The ones I have regretted tend to be your shorter more rant focused videos, but hey you're only human. But even in those, most of the time at least you get off some sick burns.

I thought about this very point in the lead up to Elizabeth Banks' CHARLIE'S ANGELS movie. She was very vocal about it being a feminist movie. And I thought to myself, "Charlie's Angels has been feminist from the jump!" It's always been kickass women doing everything you see male action heroes doing: solving crimes, fighting bad guys, saving people. In the '70s... in the Drew Barrymore movies... always! It would be like someone remaking THE MATRIX and saying, "This time, it's a movie about questioning reality, the status quo, and choosing to make a difference in the world."

I never understood why people believe they can change someone if they say "This is wrong!" thousands of times. For example, I have been told countless times "writing character that are caricatures of people you hate" is wrong. I know it'a wrong, I just don't give a fuck. When only thing that reminds me of Richard McIdiot is him ruining my fucking day for 12 years, you can bet I won't be nice to him. Same for people to which these comics are adressed to: They won't stop being racist/sexist/homophobic just because you say they should stop. Also, I once listened to a man describing the difference between normal and extreme left, saying that when the things get better we would be able to see who was normal and who was crazy. Now that a pandemic came, and literally the oposite happened, we can see who cares more about more pressing matters ,and who is an SJW.

Straight to favourites. I struggle with making a story without being preachy because my only reason to make a story is the Theme (the core moral or message the story wants to convey), and being it so important for me I want the audience to get it. Can anyone give me suggestions or advice?

@just some Guy, you summed it up perfectly, these stories are meant to signal that they have the right view. The message is most important to them, not the story, not the characters but the message. They fit the characters to thier SJW message and that's why it's so Boroing.

Frankly, I hope the writer of Excellence survives the corona industry blip because if we can keep the one SJW pro who can actually write in the medium we can have the first step to [hopefully] making our way back to the open free market of ideas the industry used to be where you could one book like the ultimates screaming at the government while having a book ardently supporting it on the right next to it without the creators getting into a pisssing match with everyone else.

If you want a really good story that tackles racism, prejudice, and social privilege I highly recommend the manga/anime series Beastars. On the outside it may look like a story about furries or a darker version of Zootopia but in reality the story takes on many issues including some that actually still happen in society today. I highly recommend it and it does not treat the reader like an idiot.
