Why climate does (not) matter in Indian elections | DW News
The largest population of the world is going to the polls. Green growth and dirty coal, Prime Minister Modi was pushing for both in recent years. Despite being highly impacted by climate change there is little excitement for green policies.

@@xcel5203 yes because Germany, in fact, the whole of Europe did massive damage to the environment during the Industrial Revolution in 1800s. During development, there will be no way to avoid pollution unless people start cooperating without looking at loss or profit, and that won't happen. It's a big topic and blaming one country will not solve a problem. The whole world wants to have nuts, bolts, spoons, tables, buckets, and clothes which are mass-produced in developing countries and then they starts blaming India and China for no reason.

@@Prakhar2410 Funnily enough Germany is moving in the right direction in stark contrast to China. Germany cut emissions by a quarter since 2000 while China increased their emissions by 250%. Even if we'd put in our best effort, we couldn't even come close to doing as much damage as China is doing. Germany is at 38% renewables, China at 23%. While in Germany coal makes up less than a fifth of energy supply it makes up more than half in China. Practically all the same stats apply to India, except that India is responsible for far less emissions than China. So yes, we absolutely have the right to lecture and we will continue using it. We are far ahead of India and China in decarbonizing our energy supply.
As if Germany is doing so much better for climate change 😂😂😂😂
Climate change don't play a big role in India because India is leading the way in achieving UNFCCC Paris agreement set in COP21. Far ahead of these western country and definitely much ahead of Germany. So mind your business and work on your part which seems missing rather than lecturing others on it.
DW seems to be obsessed with India 😂
If you take india carbon emissions from its independence then we do not stand in top 30 And if you compare it with per person carbon emissions we don't stand at top 50 Why you always lecture us , when every country uses coal for economic development it's good and when we uses its is called as climate disaster Hypocrisy is next level
US has 1/4th the population of India and yet 2X the emissions which means the carbon footprint of an avg American is 8 times that of an Indian
Moral policing and cherry picking. India has 17 percent of worlds population so it should technically emit 17 percent of worlds greenhouse gases but it only emits 7 percent. On the one hand you are telling to get rid of poverty in India and on the other hand you are telling to deindustrialise. I think DW needs to get its agenda straight that 3rd world countries should remain in absolute poverty so that 1st world can emit as much as they can.
Indians will talk about climate when we have a per capita emissions similar to europe.
1.40 billion people don't care about climate. There are other more serious issue that needs attention
Germany Per capita emissions is about 5 times than that of a average Indian. 5 TIMES Recently Germany fired up many decades old Coal Powerplants.
Why climate does (not) matter in Indian elections - it doesnt matter to NATO either with its escalation of war. What is the carbon footprint of the wars in Afghan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Ukraine?
India needs to get richer before it can clean the environment. That's the lesson from all industrialized countries. US had polluted air and water and many industrial accidents. Cities and rivers burned at the turn of the last century in the US. It's only when the US was able to afford to clean up the environment that it did so. The number one priority is growth, maximum growth for India. Absolutely nothing can get in the way of growth. India needs to get at least five times richer than today before you see meaningful reductions in air and water pollution.

Richer would mean cheaper energy which means the world needs to advance nuclear to scale which will make it cheaper for India, African countries, and South America. Cheaper energy means clean water, desalinated water, both lead to better health and proproductivity. It's being worked on but has bad PR, made worse by Germany.
Although India could be more ambitious in their net zero target, 17% of world's population is being responsible for 7% of global emissions. It's only rational that they should consume 10% more, or those who're consuming more bring down their share. Or am i missing something?
In Japan, a fire broke out in an area of solar power generation panels last month, and the measures were taken to wait for it to burn out because it could not be extinguished. The reason why the fire could not be extinguished was because if water or extinguishing agent were poured on the fire, harmful substances would mix with the burned panels and seep into the soil, making it impossible for the soil to regenerate. Therefore, the problems of invisible solar panels, cost, natural environment, China's information exploitation regarding panel control, and the disadvantage that functions can be stopped from the Chinese side have become major issues, leading to lawsuits all over Japan. This is the current situation.
Looks like DW forgot which country was the root cause of damaging environment the most by raging two of the most disastrous conflicts in the history of the manking🤣😂
