Why Christians Should Be Effective Altruists

Ойын-сауық

I'm joined by JD Bauman, director of Effective Altruism for Christians. He makes a case that Christians should be effective altruists, and suggests some ways we can all give more effectively.

Last December, I watched Dustin Crummet’s interview with Mr. Bauman. From there I read 80,000 hours which helped me decide what I want to do with my life as I’m still in college. I then decided to read, “The Life You Can Save” which inspired me to give at least 10% of my income to effective charities. I was then inspired to read Micheal Huemer’s “Dialogues on Ethical Vegetarianism” and am now vegetarian. In short that one video has shaped the past year of my thinking and my whole life. Keep up the talks with effective altruists they do make a difference.

Yes, don't give to churches and politicians, and avoid large charities. Give to local aid, educational and civil groups who you can investigate easily.

Wouldn't the size of the charity be less relevant compared to its efficacy? I support Against Malaria (a larger group) and a small Canadian charity, Lifewater, for the same reason - their effectiveness and impact.
