I'd say Chris Pines' second theory is more accurate, as a man. It's never my expectation. It's a social double-standard, if not before, then it is currently. My female friends can say a lot of those Tweets, which men cannot the other way around in public situations without ire. I feel kind of bad for Chris Pine here. He never gets serious and this, the very first time he has brought up a social issue and look what happened. He's shot down before his senten- ... it was a bit condescending in the least. If you go back he was interrupted three times in a row. She literally forbid this man being allowed to be unhappy, or to even communicate his concerns without having met him before. He questioned her on her points, and she doubled down on patronizing.

@@seanthomas5182 In the past I think it was acceptable to focus on a woman's attributes over her performance. A lot of the talk show interviews of the 90's consisted in the host talking about how "great" the woman being interviewed looked, whereas now that same kind of behaviour comes across as being a bit creepy. But men haven't historically been treated in the same way, and male nudity isn't common either. So there is both the aspect of social novelty and a lack of established convention for talking about men's bodies, and what is and isn't acceptable.

As for Chris Pine's question about why people comment on male nudity and not female- it's because female nudity has become so common place. Sally Field didn't really answer Chris' question. Men baring more now is still rare. I don't think it's the double standard Chris is after -> this is not a tragedy. Men have gotten to focus more on the acting. A lot of female parts were supporting players and had to show skin because that's what the men in charge and the men in the theatres wanted to see. Certainly there are legitimate cases where it makes sense to show skin for the story. But there are a lot of gratuitous scenes where actresses had to be nude. There were a lot of male executives, directors and writers who are telling their story they wanted it told.

Chris wasn't just dumb and asking why, it was just a way of speech, that's how someone respectful would approach the issue in a talk show, he didn't want to be condescending or mansplain it, he just wanted to bring it to people's attention, saying it's worth considering and discussing the why, that it reflects a deeper issue. It was a total misunderstanding, and I think Sally was a bit too sensitive to these subjects to pause and think about why Chris is saying it like so, therefore appearing rude or condescending (I say that without any ill will, it was an honest mistake, and I think Sally is wonderful. Also, Chris took no offense, might I add, shows what a true gentleman he is.) I understood the question to be rhetorical instantly, because that how I think and what I would say to convey the sentiment. Also it's ridiculous to think he really didn't know why, Hollywood has been forcing woke and politically correctness for a while, do you really think a seasoned and media trained actor like him wouldn't know about the issues that are been raised and discussed everywhere? That isn't even to say I personally do think he's respectful, intelligent, and a gentleman to boot. Sorry for the essay, if anyone even reads this.

The whole thing is fun but that last section had me in stiches. I get that Chris Pine wanted to "start a conversation" and I'm glad he's using his privileges for good in that way but the look and exasperation of Sally Field in that interchange made me laugh and cringe.

Chris Pine's comment on male nudity is actually quite interesting - like streakers in sporting events in the UK - Females traditionally didn't get fined when they appeared in court whereas men did. The rationale being that male genitals are outside and women's aren't.

Nah.... Pine' s a "pretty boy". Ian Fleming' s James Bond is not " pretty". Anybody who ever read one of books, and has taken notice of Fleming' s detailed discription of Bond, can tell Bond has a dangerous no- nonsence air about him, an unpleasent smile, and hooded eyes as cold as death. That is most definitely NOT Chris Pine!

Doesn't make sense that Chris Pine and Holga escaped the castle, yet they were already pardoned by the council. Why was the flyer out for them when they were already pardoned?

Probably, a part of her nudity being commented on less is that she's not as high profile of an actor. It wasn't just that an actor was naked, but that *Chris Pine* was naked. When top-billed actresses have nude scenes, people do freak out a bit. The comments are just more polite, in general.

About public full male nudity, actually, nothing has changed: female nudity is always taken seriously, either as something sensually enticing or sublimely beautiful, while male nudity is still something to merely laugh about, either as ridiculous and gross in lampoon comedy, or grossly oversexed, as the case in point here; even in art, the main point of mainstream discussion is why Michelangelo's David or ancient Greek statues are so short...

Love Graham's show! But why hasn't he had any of the cast from Outlander on his show? He interviewed Jamie Dornan and never mentioned his costar Caitriona Balfe?
