Long story short it's cheaper, has better fuel economy and more than enough power. The question should be why buy the 580 when you can get an identical looking car with the same features for several thousand less?

Sure these may be true, however many people choose V8 for an S-Class than the 6 cylinder as it's more smoother to drive than the 6-cylinder. I own a GLS 450 and it feels like its lacking a little bit of power and it does feel underwhelmed for the transmission. Test driving the GLS 580 and S580 is WAY better and MPG for the S580 is same as the GLS450...

I chose the S 580 for the PHEV I do little mileage.

Is it true 4matic all-wheel drive. With locking differential or is it 3 wheel drive?

yes, though we have quite a few and can't promise dates right now.

Ive owned an s450 and an s550, although the v8 gives you a little more power, same car doing double the gas mileage is much more appealing

Thats a beautifull car

In Canada the S500 is only available in SWB which for me is great as it is the perfect size. As for those “speed demons” and with all that traffic and speed traps, this car has more than enough power to more than satisfy. I am hoping Mercedes brings this 3 litre engine mated to an electrical motor. In Europe it is designated as the S 580e with and without 4Matic.

Im gonna be honest. If Im buying an S class, I want a v8 engine. A v8 engine just seems appropriate for the S class name and the car. If I want a v6, Ill get an e class.

The S class isn’t only about engine lol. It is about soundproof , comfort and much more refined air suspension + transmission than E class. U should try both and see even if the same engine , the E class doesn’t stand any chance against S. If I want V8 for the same price of S580, I better go for an E63, Rs7, M5 and even M5cs.

@@mikelo9006 nah, the S580 is an amazing car. I’m sure the 6 cylinder is just as good as far as comfort and has about the same power, probably the most refined it’s ever been; but the enamor is completely changed when you have a turbocharged V8 under the hood of your old man Benz. I don’t fully agree with OP, my personal preference for a Benz is a V8, they are very special, but if I wanted a 6 cylinder I wouldn’t even get a high end European car, I’d probably want a Japanese or American 6 cylinder, way more reliable and cheap to fix, at the cost of some luxury.

@@godsavemefromgenZ I didn’t say S580 isn’t amazing car. My friend has S500 2016 coupe with a V8 and it was such a joy to sit in. But a new engin in S500 (the same in cls53 , gle 53 and e53) is very well done inline 6 cylinder , deliver enough power without any delay due to electric power boost. Just saying in my case , if talking about the same price of S580 now , u can easily have much better choice like panamera gts as well as M850i. Those deliver way more handling and make u feel like drive an actual V8 car.

I just fainted when the price showed.😱

@@TMartins379 I meant Austria, moved from Germany. In Austria a well specced V8 S Class costs already around 310.000 Euros. That's not even an AMG then. America is great.

Does this lady actually believe in S500 is better than an S580? Just so you know, I got an s580, with a 145k MSRP which has many more features than an S500, for 10k down, $1300 per month including tax, 10K miles per year, 3 year lease (at least on this is usually $1,800 to 2200 per month). It was almost the same price as most people were asking for an S500. Plus this S500 is fully decked out, but my car has more features. Most of the S500 are around 125k If anyone wants to get a deal like this, let me know.

That thumping V-8 power that produces a 4.9 second 0 to 60 time as compared to the S500's 5.2? Hardly worth 10 grand imo. 🤔

I love Sclass 580 because it has much power as V8 engine.

You did say S450. And you said people think S500 is smoother than S580. How would they say it, if it wasn’t out then? Lately, you mention your clients don’t go that fast. But they both go same to sorted. It’s not how fast you go. It’s how fast you accelerate, when you need to pass quickly, merge into a highway, etc. Overselling salesperson.
