Why Catholics Have A Pope: Defending The Papacy To Non-Catholics

The Papacy was established by Jesus when He gave His authority to Peter in Matthew 16:18. It is important for Catholics to understand this teaching and be able to talk about it to non-Catholics.

You only need to look at the differeing protestant denominations to see the need for a single teaching authority.

@@mikaelrosingthere is still one authority. The Pope as well as the Magisterium help preserve and correct errors to ensure a single mindedness in the truth of the faith.

A pope is a leader of religion just like a king is the leader of the country.

I'm catholic and I don't understand it - you need a theology degree to . Christians devoutly followed the rules of rather authoritarian church leaders without much deviation from what was considered to be officially acceptable doctrine and practice. The truth is much more complicated though.

The point is that the Pope is a visible sign of unity for the Church so that the Pope, along with the Magisterium can maintain and decide matters of importance for the Church so that doctrine can be maintained and we as Catholics can be sure that what is being taught is in fact true and what is in conformity with God’s will. God Bless!

@@SaintsintheParishPodcast I think the reality is When you say authority, your meaning is really authoritarian ideas of clerical leaders that will not allow growth and development. God did not establish or elect this clerical leadership and until people begin to realize the meaninglessness of authoritarian rule, the RCC will continue to lose influence over civilization.
