I saw a close up animation of a cartoon character having five fingers but when it zoomed out they had four fingers, my brain hurts more now

Fun fact: in a reverse twist, Piccolo from Dragon Ball has four fingers in the manga, but he has five in the anime. This is most likely to avoid animation errors (the other DB characters have five fingers too, wouldn’t want to risk an inconsistency).

As an artist, I always figured and kind of learned myself that four fingers was used just because it was simpler to draw than five fingers and looked a lot better when doing quick sketches

I always thought it was to prevent people from drawing these characters flipping the bird.

Fun fact: Old cartoon characters such as Fred from Scooby doo, and Yogi Bear wore accessories around their necks. Animators did this, because it was easier to animate the head separately from the body on old animation cels.
