Are you a knife fighter? Please... This is why you should never carry a knife for self defense. Don't agree? I'd love to hear why.

    Yeah, especially for a woman it makes sense to always be armed and ready to use her tools in such a situation. But good guys, that know how to behave and how to use or when not to use a weapon or violence in general, it also makes sense. Why should normal people be unarmed, when criminals carry weapons and or attack in groups and often have no scrouples. And i always carry knives in general, because there are other good reasons to carry a knife as a tool, in case you need it.

    Knives are best felt, not seen, when introduced into a fight. Slashing the back of someone's hand or top of the forearm can instantly take that limb out of the fight. Throat slashes are last resort fighting. This dude should know this.

    A knife 🔪 is the quintessential survival tool. Survival being the word and not self defence. Trust me. If I sent you out it to the African bush for a week with no food or water, then the smartest thing to take with you would be a knife. Knives are everywhere. You use one to eat your food with. A knife is as much apart of life as walking, breathing and eating, so much so that people do notice that. Criminals and gang mentality always involves knives. Let’s not deny history either. Samurai, Spartan, Knight and all combat before guns, yeah they definitely train big knives. You will never know what you are up against until you pick it up and study it’s functioning under combat conditions. With safe weapon simulators of course. Good people have all the right in the world to study the weapons that bad people use against them. Violence is violence, it care nothing for self defence. Once you have faced multiple attacks with weapons and the intent to kill, all rainbows 🌈 and feelings disappear very fast. It ugly and unthinking but true. You will never no how to defend an edge weapon both empty hand or armed unless you pick the dam thing up and train with it. Like it or not, the education comes from the practice. And that is essential to survival. Knowing how you will die against a knife is more important than having feelings on knife fighting. If you want self defence, non lethal then buy pepper spray. Never limited your experience and expertise based on feelings. That is a disservice to everyone. I live in the most high risk country in they world with knife crime being epidemic. The irony is better knife education, results in a better understanding of what we are all as civilians are terrified of. You train and study that beast.

    I agree with you sir.. I carry a pocket knife as a tool more than a self-defense weapon since I need it sometimes to do my job. I live in the Southern US. I'm able to legally carry a concealed firearm. I've also been practicing Krav Maga for several years now. I see it as a useful and proven tool in my Use of Force toolbox. And if the need to increase the UOF, it will enable me to reach my firearm when I'm justified to use it. The way I view knives for self-defense is this; if that's all you have to defend yourself enough to get away, then use it to your advantage. But the thing about knives is, you got to get close to use it effectively. It's very bloody and brutal. A knife never runs out of ammunition. But, I'd rather use something else other than a knife for self-defense.

    Kinda hardcore disagree, yes you don’t want to have the goal and ambition to kill someone unless it’s required (they’re not backing down, hurting your family/loved ones, want to inflict serious damage against you and are determined, have a knife/weapon themselves) but it’s an extremely useful self defense tool. Same goes with the argument of “you should be fighting not drawing a knife” I think being competent enough to use the knife kinda assumes you know to use transitional spaces to draw it and if you can, never even let them see the knife come towards them/being drawn. The intimidation argument is dumb, should be taught and assumed that your ready to use said weapon. Idk what he’s on about if someone wants to hurt me or try and take my life I’m totally prepared to plunge that blade anywhere it needs to go to disable/neutralize them. There’s a multitude of situations where grappling/going to the ground and being overpowered and about to get mauled can be countered by drawing a boot knife or any kind really and stabbing them, often they’re too occupied wrestling you and trying to choke/pound/slam you against the ground. If you know how to use the length of the blade in a forward extended grip you can keep people at bay and use thrusts to deliver devastating blows while staying out of punching range. The only valid parts to me were you shouldn’t be using a knife if your not ready to inflict real damage and you shouldn’t fumble for it when the timings not right, and actually the legality part is the most resounding truth of this video. Many legislations will frame you as violent and or escalating the situation or instigating it altogether simply because you had a knife on you, even if it was used in pure self defense. Yes, there’s only so much arguing they can do before it’s clear you used the weapon purely in self defense, but it would be far from the first time the victim gets blamed for trying to defend themselves, no matter the means. All said, I would still rather have a knife on me and be able to use it, even if I didn’t have to and have to resort to martial arts/striking/grappling instead. More flexibility is never a bad thing and dear god always run first if you can, and especially don’t pull your knife or don’t carry one altogether if you seriously fear being disarmed or don’t think yourself competent enough to not lose it and have it used against you

    Well put. I'm a former knife fighting instructor and I don't think he really believes what he is saying. He gave no real valid reason for not knowing how to use a knife for self defense. Legality well yeah the lawyers will try to paint you as evil person, the training aspect goes for the gun as well as the knife. I think he knew this would spark a lot of feed back and it did from me as well. Then again many martial artist hate weapons for self defense and it's because they know they are not will to take a life to save a life even there own. They believe their empty hand skills will be enough to stop the attacker who ironically will be armed. I just hope most people don't fall for this advice he gave. If anyone is going to carry a knife or even a gun please learn how to use it. At least with a knife if you don't know how to use it you really on hurt yourself, with a gun if you don't know how to use it you run the risk of hurting innocent bystanders.

    Anytime a person find security in the weapon he/she is wielding as oppose to his/her training (including training with their weapon) there is a significant risk of the weapon being taken & used against the person who initially possessed it. Pulling out a knife in order to intimidate your attacker is already a form of escalation, and the 1st rule in self defense is that the 1st resort is de-escalation. In the words of Doug Marcaida, knives are meant to be felt, not seen. It’s easy to talk against carrying a non-firearm edc weapon if you are giving recommendations to a male student who possibly works out and may be able to physically hold his own if he was to ever get jumped by another male attacker, but if the student is a young, attractive, but relatively small or skinny 20-24 year old woman who doesn’t have +10 years to train BJJ & obtain her purple-black belt (and still probably won’t be able to hold her own if she continues to not work out; and who can really blame her if she doesn’t), & has an actual life outside of learning how to fight & defend herself (because lets face it, learning how to fight is a man’s world), what edge would she be able have against her male attacker when that male attacker is already on top of her pummeling her with his fist to her face if she is unarmed? Even if the male attacker is an emasculated man, an emasculated man can still dish out some serious physical damage on a woman. And yes, if you aren’t trained to use your weapon, it can always be used against you. But the same can be said about carrying a gun; not just knife. How many cases of police officers in America (or even around the western world) who were out on patrol on their own, & while during a routine traffic stop or responding to a call, were jumped by a bad guy, lost retention of their own pistol and were shot with their own gun? That’s why these days, many officers go out on patrol in teams of twos with their partners. The same can even be said about pepper spray (which is an often recommended self defense tool for women). There are plenty of cases of police officers while wrestling & trying to arrest a bad guy, they try to spray the bad guy with their pepper spray & end up spraying themselves as well. Also, if you really want to talk about laws, there are places in the world where self-defense is illegal, because the culture of the society is such that it is an established social norm that if anything happens to you, you are suppose to run to the police and not “take matters into your own hands”. So even getting caught with pepper spray would get you into serious trouble.

    You made several good points, bit also some surprisingly bad ones. Like someone who never faced a skilled knife operator nor was in a knife fight. Here are what the truths about knife fighting are. 1) A knife is made to be felt not seen. 2) You don't carry a weapon - any weapon - without proper training. An untrained operator is more dangerous to himself than an aggressor. 3) You don't pull out a a weapon - any weapon- unless you are 100 determined to use it. If you do it, it is nor going to end well for you.

    Who says you must display your blade. I carry both. My k bar got upset with you for a second. Im glad you eliminated military. Alot of marines would be fairly offended. When your ammo runs dry. That blade might be the only thing that saves you. You said getting jumped. If you have no weapon you are just testing your combat skills. If you at least have a knive it is possible to turtle, get that weapon system, gun or knife, out, and begin lets call it poking your attackers. No legal issues. You protected your life. In usa it must be 3 or more people attacking and you can use lethal force. Also, knowing how to wield a knife properly helps. Never knew what that meant until military school. Didn't join military though. Obama made sure i couldnt. Not personally but made our military weaker not letting the me's in. Poor background, some trouble because when your poor, you live in bad areas, and you end up in the bad things happening eventually. I do agree if you do not know how to use a knife, dont have the mental capacity, or strong enough will to live (whatever other things that can prevent you from doing your job. Ie. Staying alive) to take a life. Do not carry a knife. I suggest hitting the gym. I carry both because if someone is stupid enough to knife fight me. I will oblige them. Either they win or i win gun wont be drawn. I will ensure if I die that they will be right behind me. Not all knife fights end in death. My 16 yr old sister was stabbed 5 times. Never knew her attacker had one. She got about 100 yds from the "fight" asked if the girl peed on her. Lifted her shirt, and her intestine sack was sticking out. I pressed it back in with her hand, said hold that pressure, and drove like a nascar driver. I had dissarmed one of the people before the fight broke out. My sister is smart. She knew if i left that hospital it would be 3 or 4 funerals. 30 seconds later i am locked in the hospital with half the police force keeping me from leaving. (I know the area better than they did, they werent taking any chances) fortunately for them I am a man of honor. My baby sister who i didnt know would live or die asked me to leave them alone. She knew i had already made the calls and a small war was about to break out. I hate it, but to honor her I have to be dishonored in that situation. Add insult to injury the girl claimed self defence. Said they were scared of me and my criminal past. They meant the criminal record i got keeping peace in the neighborhood, but that didnt stop them from using my life against my sister. Her 21 year old attacker got a straight not guilty. Okay, she was so scared of a 16 yr old she had to stab her 5 times. My sister finished her though. Stab holes and all. She knocked that girl out cold. Handed her to her boyfriend, (supposedly my best friend) and said take your bitch im done with her. She got gassed, and couldnt figure out why. Until she saw the blood. To that point, one of the attackers was dissarmed before the fight. Her 12 inch kitchen knife was almost used on her. If i could go back i would slit all of their throats the second i picked up the knife. She threw bottles at my sisters car. She got out to see what that was. I hear the comotion, go out and immediately have to dissarm someone in my underwear. Then when they attacked, one at a time, my mom went in, my sister went in, then the guy was holding my sister watching her get stabbed, so i threw him so far he nearly landed on a second floor balcony, so my sister had room to get it done. He was the only one who knew she was stabbing not fighting. I hope i don't disshonor my sister if i run into him again. They like taunting us about it. Little do they know how close it came to being their last day. They are very lucky i love my sister enough to allow myself to be disshonored to honor her wishes.

    That goes for any weapon. If you pull out a gun and are not willing to use it someone will take it away from you. Knives and guns should be felt not seen. If you are pulling a gun to intimidate you are wrong. Knives have protected people longer than guns have ever been around. If you do not train with a weapon you are better off not carrying it. When would you pull a gun when you are already in the fight you will probably drop it. Would you pull a gun when you perceive a lethal threat well the knife is no different. If you are legally warranted in using lethal force than you are legal to use a knife. It sounds like you are living in a movie. Hand to hand is essential but if you come up against more than one attacker not armed with guns then a gun would be your best option but a knife would be better than empty hands. It does not matter what weapon you use for defense if you don't train with it you will not be able to use it effectively. If you think your empty hands skill against an attacker armed with a knife even an untrained person with a knife, you are not living in reality. There are plenty of martial artist who have found out the hard way why the knife is one of the most feared weapons. When your gun runs out of ammo, when it malfunctions, when it can't be legally carried but the knife can and remember the knife never jams, it never runs out of ammo. Everyone in the world is scared of the knife because everyone has been cut in some way or another. Most people have not been shot and do not fear guns as much as Knives. Also Knives are more effective at close range because it is a touch weapon, most people can't hit their target with a gun and hand guns are the worst gun for self defense because they lack sufficient stopping power. We only carry hand guns because people in the USA look at you funny when you carry a rifle or shotgun slung over your shoulder. Sorry for the long post, but if you don't know how to use a weapon fine but don't pass it off as ineffective nbecause you don't know how to use it. I guarantee you those who have been stopped by a good guy with a knife would disagree with you. I know the guy who got me in a choke hold would disagree with you.

  • @mrx2586

    @mrx2586

    8 ай бұрын

    There are a number of things here that are clearly completely wrong First of all a knife is not more effective than a gun at close range. If I had a gun in hand and ready to use I could easily stop any person - nobody is going to miss with a gun at close range. If I have a knife on the other hand it is a very very different story, if I try and use a knife on a person who has even minimal experience of fighting and violence I wont have a chance, it would be impossible for me to defend myself and impossible for me to do any harm to him. The reason for this is because a knife is a touch weapon which causes 2 problems. 1) I have to actually touch him with the knife which would be impossible for me against someone who is used to fighting as he would easily parry of ovoid any attempt I make to make contact 2) that person would defeat me in seconds and be free to have his way with me. Even if I was fighting on more equal grounds, against someone who I could make a stand against I would prefer a gun because it does so much more damage. Secondly you claim that "Most people have not been shot and do not fear guns as much as Knives" you cant say that. you have no possible way to know what another person fears. I would fear a gun 100x more than a knife because I know that any person can use one and that the amount of damage done by them is far far greater.

    I've seen people who score 100% at the range miss a human being at 3 feet. O er 80% of people who are shot survive. People who don't have skills with a knife are dangerous enough someone else who is trained with a knife is even more dangerous. I always find it interesting that gun guys think their problems can be solved by pulling a trigger as if skill is not needed. I speak from experience. I have used a knife to defend myself and I carry not one gun but multiple guns all the time. Most people can't stand to carry 1 gun because it's uncomfortable. These days on my person I'm carrying a 1911 and 3 mags, a 38 spl snubby, and a 4 inch 38 spl with 1 speed strip for each revolver. I also have a 22 5 shot derringer as a hide out. I'm also carrying a gerber mk2 fighting dagger on my leg and a 6 inch sog bowie on my belt or sometimes my ka bar. I'm not counting my 2 case pocket knives. And all of this is carried on my person, and I'm counting the gear with my carbine in the car. So spare me, I protect people from evil on a daily basis as part of my job. I have the aches and pains that go with the weight I carry because I live it, I don't pretend.

    For a woman, as a weapon to protect from sexual assault, there's potential merit to a knife but it would have to be fixed blade and used either as a visible deterrent or, if used, should be used with intent. That said, the nature of those types of attack usually make the reality much less practical. For home invasion, anything goes but I don't generally believe people carrying knives for self defence is smart because it is most likely to result in the use of greater force by your attacker(s) and if your attacker(s) doesn't have weapons then why would you consider the situation to be a lethal force scenario? Alternately, if you are facing attacker(s) with a knife, a knife may work as a deterrent but if the confrontation becomes physical, a knife is a poor weapon v a knife as both parties are likely to be wounded. I'd rather a chair or something of that kind that I can get between me and an attacker.

    I totally disagree with this dude.many people have used knives to defend themselves from harm.this dude is drunk.

    I carry a knife nearly everywhere I go,plain and simple they are tools period and yes I’m prepared to use it if I have to,just because you can’t think of a good reason to carry doesn’t make you right.

    Ive always carried a knife for self defense. You dont seem to understand how the use of a knife in a street fight works. When done correctly, the guy you stick wont see the blade before hes stuck with it. He will definitely feel it. No one who uses a blade will let you see it before you are cut. Your advise is stupid
