    I know it’s just an equipment item and to the normal 1 consumer it might be looked past but being in an industry where all I do is here customer requests for items. I get asked for this a lot. Also, towards the end of the video, I showcase all his bike parts and how cool it is to have all these boutique parts on it.

    The weird thing is there is an explicit UCI rule that states all equipment used in UCI cycling races must be available to the general public within 1 year of use in professional races, and that manufacturers have to demonstrate that they are well on their way in production of that equipment (IE showing tooling, molds, marketing, etc). It doesn't seem like it's enforced at all though! Other examples are things like large chain rings that component manufacturers make for pros but never sell to the public. “Equipment shall be of a type that is sold for use by anyone practicing cycling as a sport. Any equipment in development phase and not yet available for sale (prototype) must be subject of an authorization request to the UCI equipment Unit before its use. Authorization will be granted only for equipment which is in the final stage of development and for which commercialization will take place no later than 12 months after the first use in competition. The manufacturer may request a single prolongation of the prototype status if justified by relevant reasons. When assessing a request for use of equipment which is not yet available for sale, the UCI equipment Unit will pay particular attention to safety of the equipment which will be submitted to it for authorization." Yeah AR and Aero are different product lines with Enve, but I totally see why so many people mistake them for the exact same name. AR looks like an abbreviation of Aero if you’re not paying close attention. I’ve never loved a component more than my AR bars (just bars, not the cockpit), but they are very much road-adjacent gravel bars and not TdF road racing bars. I wouldn’t choose them for my Tarmac (or Tadej’s Colnago)!

    If there’s plenty of people who can afford what the pros use that’s interesting. I wonder what the breakdown is as far as bike store margins are concerned for the top shelf equipment versus the “prosumer” and mid level buyer. Does the budget bike consumer even still exist? I for one approach bike stuff from a “bang for the buck” which is why I build my own bikes up with stuff I find anywhere from Aliexpress to Panda Podium to a high level bike store in Quebec or my local bike stores. I shop around because it’s all part of the hobby but if I was racing a lot or doing those fast group rides I imagine I’d be looking for the pro level gear. But I’d still probably not look for a $1200 handlebar.

    Love how GC finds the time to cover such silly topics but let me help him understand the difference between the handlebars. The one piece bar offered to the race teams is a sleeker, narrower, lighter piece designed around a race longer stem and reach. The one for the consumer is beefier , design to work with shorter stem length , accepts their TT extensions clamp and has to be more sturdier and stiff. Enve offers aero clamps for their TT extensions , that clamp on the aero profile top bar. Hope this makes sense and GC can reload now

  • @SandSanta

    @SandSanta

    That doesn't really answer the question. GC already covered that they are different - he isn't exploring WHY they are different, just asking why the Pro one is offered for sale because thats what consumers want. You don't really answer that question either. As for being beefy or not, you don't know that for a fact because you don't know how the carbon has been laid up on the pro version. A bulkier look doesn't necessarily mean a stronger, stiffer bar.

    @@SandSanta dude... when a brand is selling a product to consumers they have to deliver it so that it can withstand things consumers may do to them. If they sell the same handlebar - like you want them to do - and a few riders try to mount the aero extensions and die in crashes it would be bad for the brand. Not so hard to get I believe.... btw, 1200 $ or 1399 € for a handlebar that offers nothing other handlebars don't for less than half the price is ridiculous, so a smart buyer stays away from that crap anyways; which is also true for their wheels which are hookless and dangerous - watch Tadej's crash caused by that! Luckily it was at very slow speed, but imagine that happen at a descent with 100 kph... The entire ENVE range is extremely overpriced and not nearly as well designed as they want us to believe

It’s a sport where you just use whatever you want, not what you need. Simple.

    Pedestrians do NOT get access to buying pro-specific equipment, ONLY replicas! A simple example, the pro frames top-tubes have extremely light upper-sides in contrast to the bottom-side!

    Fake news LOL Acording to UCI rules etc, they eventually have to sell the products to consumers. Keyword is "eventually" plus there is no mention in the rules as to how many needs to be sold

    Tadej is one of us because we all have $15k to build boutique bikes with exotic parts. GC used to be one of us but now he is just like Tadej , maybe should wear the yellow kit as well

    Except the UCI a while back enforced that components riders use have to be made available to the public within a specific timeframe. IMO the parts should be publicly released before they can even use it.

    SOMEDAY grant you will realize the rider wins races not equipment..im sure customers are knocking down your door wanting to pay $1200 for a bar ! You think pogs colnago is off the shelf? THE RIDER WINS RACES..quit pushing the bikes are the stars! If the SL 8 is so good why arent they world champion like canyon with van der poel? riders are test pilots for new products..where have you been the last 15 years????
