52 year old, male. Got painful elbow and shoulder from a radical mp with co poly, head lynx, strung loose. 2 years ago i changed to lighter racket with multi, wilson pro staff 97L , sensation 16. Pain now gone. Also fitness is a big factor, swimming works for me. Thanks for sharing your story, coach.

Finally someone is talking about this. Here's a hot take, no adult club player should be playing with a full bed of poly

I just switched from Poly Tour pro (48lbs) to Head Velocity (54lbs) and honestly. I thought that multi was going feel super soft which is why I went for higher tension but I can’t really tell the difference so I’m quite glad I switched. I feel like I do struggle a bit more with top spin but it might change when the pressure drops.

I used to use gut/poly hybrid. After much experimentation (due to arm problems with tennis elbow and wanting to cut costs) I settled on switching to using Head Velocity MLT 17g in my mains at 55/57 pounds and MSV Co-poly 17Lg at 51/53 pounds (I use kilos so these are rounded from 25/26kg and 23/24kg). The racquet I currently use is Prince Phantom 97p. MLT is a great string for the value.

Boy this sounds sooooo familiar and went through the angst of changing rackets and then string again. Has both golfers and tendonitis. I switfhed from a Pure Drive plud to head boom pro and changed to a gut/technifibre TGV. I also realized that my form ( or lack thereof ) contributed to my pain. I used heating pads on elbow, did exercises for my forearm and wrist. and eventually swiched back to the babolat pure drive. I have also used Velocity MLT full bed and have that on one of my HEad Boom Pros Really nice string.. But i still like the Pure Drive plus with a hybrid gut/TGV and i use an elbow strap to reduce the load off my elbow. Seems to work for my elbow but i am playing so mu h that my shoulder is hurting from serving. That is what age does to you@

There are indeed tour pros use multi. Tennis nerd made a video on that. If it’s good enough for pros it’s good enough for rec players.

I use wilson’s champion choice string on my pro staff. String the natural gut on the mains at 56Ibs & the Alu power rough on the crosses at 53Ibs. Can play for hours and have never felt any pain while playing. Pure comfort and you get the benifits of power and spin

Absolutely agree 100% with Coach Steve! That poly 20 years ago went right to your elbow. No way you could feed all day with those strings. Even today I go with the hybrid, the polys are so much better but I can only take polys on the crosses. Probably mental but why chance that elbow pain.

I used to have elbow problems using Prince racquets and High string tensions with luxilon BB. Then I switched to Dunlop CX 300 tour with gut with lower tension and the pain went away. Currently using a Technifibre tfight iso 305 with a full bed of Razor Code (blue) strung in the high 40s lbs.. It's magic.

Changed from poly (RPM blast/Confidential/HyperG) into multifilaments two years ago after a shoulder injury that kept me off court for 6 months. I got myself a stringing machine and started using Technfibre NRG2 now I am on Triax at 45 lbs. They don't last more than two weeks, they break often, but my elbow and shoulder are doing great! Mid 50s 4.0 player. I am having better results now!

Similar to what I went through. I had used nylon and syn gut until about 2006. I did have some arm problems in the 1990s with one particularly very stiff racquet. And I used poly and loved it until I had a severe injury around 2010 and I had to take 6 months away from tennis. I remained with poly and then learned about dead poly so I cut it out after 8 hours and that worked. I switched to Hyper-G and find that I can hit with it for at least 20 hours (not really sure what the limit is yet). A few other factors is that I stick to racquets with RA of 62 or below and my racquets are 13.25 ounces with a high swingweight and moderately high twistweight. Most newer racquets have increased twistweight to decrease injury potential for light and stiff racquets.

good discussion. confused steve w/ coach robb (wilson guy who hits super flat). surprised he'd have trouble w/ poly if he was using the hybrid like federer w/ nat gut in the mains. so is he still competing w/ full multi? maybe he should try krischbaum orange at low tension or luxilon g4 like intuitive tennis says.

Same here with the wrist...Wonder why he doesnt switch to an arm friendly racquet then? He has one of the worst for arm issues there. There are racquets out there for sure you can use a hybrid set up or a soft poly without any problems. I do so and have no issues anymore whatsoever.

He looks to be using the Head Extreme Tour. It's actually not that stiff at all. TW says 63 RA. I have the previous version of it and it's really nice, even for the arm. You can't really compare it to the rest of the Extreme line. They are stiffer.

What is so special about the Velocity MLT? I use Tecnifibre Multifeel that sounds like a very similar multi string. I also always seem to get a sore arm from poly strings like coach Steve. Just a pity as I really noticed the more penetrated strokes and more spin. However multis give me much more feel.
