    This engineer is old school and for whatever reason fears calling a spade a spade. He needed to say the truth: Stinking Corruption, laziness, shortcuts, incompetence and greed in county governments, NCA, NEMA etc and whoever else is involved in the construction industry through to the developers and the fundis on site. You can take this to the bank. Buildings will continue to collapse in Kenya until those involved are ready to sit down and decide that enough is enough. For now, everyone is just paying lip service. Endeleeni kuungua.

    The blocks mined at some of local quarry do not have enough compresive force to support the building

    Those county officials are bribed by the owners. In the Ruiru issue they bribed KSH 100kabd those who didn't have the money were given 2 weeks to come up with the money. For them the construction can't continue,but those who gave the money can continue building. The officials thinks more of their tummies than safety of the people. Shame!!!

    Engineer, Maybe the person asking you for the design also has a brother or relative (unqualified academically) that he would like to be his supervisor. My suggestion is LSTK collaboration under one roof.

    The Engineer said that the right quantity of materials used should be considered, e.g When you suppose to use Bush stones at the foundation, the developer used machine Cut in the foundation

    But Nairobi County inherited all engineers in municipal government, does it mean they sit their offices with out going in field for inspections.

  • @georgeooko3716
    @georgeooko3716 Жыл бұрын

    We still had buildings collapse under municipalities. Typical Kenyan style, unless one facilitated them they will take forever to get to a site. And where bribed them they will stamp documents in their offices. The building inspection thing should be privatized and competent individuals licensed to do it. They will the make detailed reports on inspections conducted.

    But Engineer, Kenya sometimes isn't serious about developing punitive legislation. Why can't the government revoke all professional's licenses? This way, everyone will care about their reputation. In Athletics its called a ban for doping!

    @@carlingari8850 Of course, yes. Under such circumstances the problem is elsewhere and the building owner and his contractor take responsibility. Where they don't get a competent supervisor, it is expected that local authority's team ought to stop the activity.
