The contribution of Tawaifs in the freedom struggle should be thoroughly recognised! Tawaifs like Azizan Baai had sacrificed their lives for our country. We must value their sacrifices despite whatever was their identity.

For people planning to watch Heeramandi: Heeramandi is a great series to watch if one loves historic & cultural movies. Should be seen 2 episodes per day though. Its bit slower in the beginning & at few points story seems predictable, however its pacy & passionate towards later episodes. Its a masterpiece of grand visuals, classical songs, Urdu dialogues & extravagant appearances. Great acting by Manish & Aditi. Overall good series. 7/10 on IMDb & trending 1st on Netflix while amongst the top in some other countries!

I saw a movie recently call "geisha" which is 2005 movie... Now I get the meaning of geisha is tawaifs... Must watch this movie it a good movie with some cultural information/knowledge...

@Abhiabhi007007 before this video i thought that tawaifs are prostitutes... but when i showed this video, it reminds me of geisha movie... now i understand that tawaifs are not prostitutes... they are entertainers and they only have physical relationship with their patrons... and this information changed my views about them...

A talk on devadasi is also needed,their history for art is kinda similar to tawaifs....but they were considered divine,but were forced into prostituition later in history.......

Yeah exactly. Devadasis had role in preserving the South Indian Classical Dances like Bharatanatyam while Tawaifs preserved North Indian Classical Dances like Kathak.

Like Umrao Jaan of Lucknow, Hussaini Khanum of Kanpur, Zohra Baai of Agra, Gauhar Jaan of Kolkata, Mah Laqa Baai of Hyderabad. There was also a "Tawaif Sabha" in Varanasi for assisting the freedom struggle.
