Bilona ghee is ghee that’s hand-churned from the milk of native South Asian cows. Whereas factory-made ghee sells in India for around 585 rupees per kilogram, bilona ghee can cost up to 1,900 rupees per kilogram - over three times as much. Compared to industrial ghee, it takes much longer to make, but the end product is nuttier and more aromatic. Outside of India, it can sell for over $100 per kilogram.

    I'm from rural south India and we make ghee in similar way as shown here. But only difference is that, here it is common to use moringa leaves , some fenugreek seeds and a bit of rock salt to enhance the flavor and aroma. We filter out the fenugreek seeds and moringa leaves after ghee is done and ready to store.

    Honestly it’s not expensive, it’s your perspective. The innumerable benefits of health authentic ghee offers to one’s health is super commendable and justified by the price tag. I have somewhat stopped buying expensive and unjustified stuff just having brand name and started investing in wholesome things like pure Ghee, Honey, A2 Grass-fed Fresh Milk, etc.

    @@flyingdragon6275 lol I've been making my own ghee since years . I consume A2 milk and I store the cream, 15ltrs of milk every month, end of the month it yields 200ml Ghee... One dollop every day, enough for 30 days... Billona method is not possible at home but my ghee is still a free homemade byproduct of the A2 desi milk I consume.. I also get the buttermilk in the process.. or I stop at the butter stage sometimes when I have enough ghee in store already

    We need to get rid of the paper Rupee, and get something that govt cannot print it to dilute and steal from public + get rid of taxation with auditing, if there is NO audit of taxes than NO taxation. Pre 1930's there was no taxation in the entire world. Maximum 15% of taxation, US revolted against the British empire because tea tax.

    Expensive? That's a tag we have associated. 1 bottle of moderate whiskey costs Rs. 1500+, and is consumed in a few hours. 1 Ltr of ghee, is going to be used by the whole family for almost a month. But alcohol rarely comes up in the category of 'Expensive'. Same analysis done for everything healthy (like nuts, etc) would tell the same story. Its not so expensive to live healthily, it's just a perception in our head.

    If the flavor is good and it’s potentially healthier why not. If people are willing to pay $20 for a gin and tonic then this ghee is a bargain. I love cooking with ghee. And enjoying the results. Make a grilled cheese using ghee and you will understand.

    @@alankritakaushal The video states that Ghee has a higher smoking point, making it even better than regular butter for toasting a toast in a pan. I mean, if someone never tasted Ghee before, why not try it on a grilled cheese sandwich? The first thing you will taste when you take a bite is the butter, so you can really taste the difference between regular butter and Ghee ;)

    Things I took for granted as a child is a novelty now. Almost all Indian mothers made ghee this way whether in a city or village. It was always cultured butter churned from yoghurt that was used. The concept of making butter from sweet cream was alien to me until I moved to the west. The fermentation process in cultured butter ups the nutrition quotient and makes it easier to digest

    Ghee is the oldest food mentioned in the Vedas, the sacred Hindu scriptures, which is about 4000-5000 years old. It's historical use in nourishment and oblations to the Hindu gods has earned it the epithet of a life giver among Hindus, with its continuous use in India( more so in Northern India than Southern India). Makhan is the favorite food of lord Krishna, as a child, he is said to have stole it himself, so the former is applied as massage oil and food for the newborn, toddlers to adults alike. It bears special significance due to the historically more pronounced Vegetarian lifestyle of Indians( Lacto-vegetarian, especially in the North and western parts). Traditional Hindu medicine and ancient Hindu doctors like Charaka, Sushruta etc speak very highly of Ghee and it's plethora of properties.

    I never liked Ghee but as a Grown up man in mid 30s, my mother still scolds me for not having ghee in my diet. Home made Ghee is so important that my mother is bringing Ghee in this very same week while flying from India.

    Ghee is the only oil you are meant to consume. Everything else like seed oils are degenerate. So if anything, you should be consuming ghee as much as possible.

    I loved ghee so much that I wouldn’t eat my dinner without it and I got so many beatings because of it. I was told it would make me fat. I still enjoy ghee sadly I don’t have the same love for it that I used to do when I was young.

    My grandmother used to make ghee using same process. Our milkman used to get thigh milk everyday. When I was a kid I used to eat butter like a thief. Man I just miss those days of eating natural food, but now almost everything is processed

    I don't have my dairy business but my dad has built a successful Real estate Empire for me, making 60 lakhs annually bare minimum and i have a lot of surplus to spend, seeing the bad condition of our dairy cows and their slaughter after they fail to give milk has helped me make my mind to shift my focus on this good dairy business and i will make A2 certified ghee available at rupees 800/ kg, it's just 100rupee more from patanjali normal ghee this will take a lot of time and strategies business research but I promise I will one day soon foray into this business tough it has very low margins and hig risks. I'm hindu and can't see animal cruelty being done to my mother by these " Cow milk factories"

    This ghee is a part of our diet in Haryana, culturally. Generally the factory made ghee is frowned up and people will rather not that. When you eat this ghee, you can feel energy in your whole body. The strength my father and grandfather made eating lost of ghee, butter milk is incomparable. Their bodies are so strong in comparison to their age.

    I save cream from milk and store it in the fridge, and after 20,30 days I prepare Desi ghee at home and it's easy ,and good for health because it is pure 🇵🇰

How ignorant the comment is.... and anyways its dangerous to raise cows in some states of India as you cant sell the calf and buy the calf because of certain fools who are hell bent into destroying the native cow breed in India. 5 farmers in Hyderabad were fined and put in prison just for selling cows.     @@premg062 you can see in the video that those indian cows making that particular ghee live much better. the narrator even seemed to try to say that the calves are not separated from their mothers, though the sentence is badly written. the video does show a calf with its mother, which in typical industrial dairy farming would only happen for a matter of hours or days after birth, at which point the calf would be removed and raised in extreme isolation in a tiny box. a friend of mine worked on a dairy farm in new zealand once while backpacking, and he reported that the way the calves were fed was by utilising unsellable puss-contaminated milk from cows with inflamed udders (they still require milking, and apparently it still works for feeding and not killing calves). :( and that wasn't even the worst sort of dairy farming, since the cows still got to graze outside, which in a lot of more densely populated or less climatically ideal countries is the exception for dairy cows (new zealand is great for ranching, though more known for sheep).

    Mostly you will get the industrial version of ghee in your country but it will be good for you. Warning though, it has strong smell and taste (bodes well with Indian spices. Don’t know how it will be like in your cuisines.

    I like how people's perception change according to country of thier liking. If the same was done by Japanese, then you would have praised by words like 'dedication to thier work","handcraft", 'tradition', 'patience','hardwork', 'exotic', 'work of art' and what not. But here people are saying things like "machines make more sense", or "he is fooling people". So to people, a simple scissor being absurdly expensive makes sense, same fruits being expensive makes sense, and even after technological advancements, 'them' working manually makes sense of it is from a country of thier liking like Japan or Korea, But Ghee being expensive, is fraud. Even though 1 kg ghee needs many litres of milk, without forcing cows like they do in west. Lol Ghee is older than dawn of many cultures , so why shouldn't it's traditional method be preserved? Infact if you go deeper, there are elaborate ways and mantras to be recited while churning milk/curd. "Churning itself have many deeper philosophical interpretations in Indian literature. Churning is also a plot of many Hindu legends. So give respect to tradition.

    There are two types of butter. The commercial butter we find in the supermarket is made from cream that floats to the top of the milk. This is what we refer to as cultured butter. The milk is concentrated by evaporation then it's cultured by making the yogurt then churned to make butter. This butter has an amazing smell and flavor. This is how I have made butter and ghee all my life. Take fresh milk and make it into yogurt and then churn it to make butter and then heat it to make ghee. What makes it so much better is these cows only eat grass. No corn and soy like the factory cows.

    This was an house hold thing a few decades ago … I have seen so many of my Daadi Naani (Grand Ma) generatation doing this so often. Each household had a Cow and had enough cream to make this and offcourse a constant supply of butter and buttermilk 👏👏👏

    Back in 70s my grandmother used to make ghee from 3 cows at home . breakfast fresh yogurt and maki ki roti ki churri.. afternoon or Raat KO desi ghee mai churri or oopar shakar or doodh..wish those days can come back

    The ONLY fat a human should use is Butter, ghee, animal fat and coconut oil. Anything from plant seed is toxic. You need all three types - saturated, mono saturated, unsaturated.

    Bhavesh produces authentic ghee at his farm. I have been purchasing ghee from him since the time when I saw one of his videos where he explained how bilona ghee is made traditionally.

    I don't know where you live but even the butter in France is much better than in Canada or the USA. It has less water in it.
