Why BET Doesn't Respect Donald Glover

#music #donaldglover #childishgambino
The ATL-raised actor, musician, & writer has had a long career both in and out of the mainstream, but with him finding new resolve 8 years ago, it still seems that he can't fully grasp the appeal of the black entertainment industry. Why is that? But make sure to like & subscribe, and check out the song of the day:

Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.
Once again, thanks for watching and I'll see you guys later. Peace.

I feel this whole thing is a real "if a tree falls in the woods" situation. No has respected BET for some years now so screw them if they dont respect someone like Gambino

It's an interesting conversation on perspective, in my opinion. You could look at it as you're saying and essentially invite all Black artists irregardless of genre and niches. Or you could say, we only celebrate artists that promote what is considered our ethnic heritage and culture. I can understand both approaches, and although the latter may be less fair, it does try to hold closer to the things we want to define as 'The Culture', also it's gatekeeping 101. Now if we allowed showcasing of everything that was outside of 'the culture' it would certainly be more inclusive, and more kids that have those interests could see examples to aspire to etc., but.... then it becomes a question of cultural dilution. To exist in America is to conform in some way to the culture of the majority (the colonizers, cough cough). We as Black Americans have been forcefully excluded from joining all the other groups that have become the majority over time (Irish, Italian, German, some Hispanic and Asian), therefore we have built and retained our own culture. So, to celebrate artists who are making art in spaces that are not embraced by 'The Culture', it can be understood that we may not want to highlight those. And then again, other side of the coin, we should celebrate our people's accomplishments equally. Last thought, what if we try to celebrate an artist, but they actively hate other Black people and anything 'The Culture' stands for because of bad experiences they had, etc.

Genuine curiosity - do you live in the US? It surprises me to hear ppl don’t know what BET is. I live in France n theres a bet channel on tv. Was thinking probly depends where you live… if theres nuff of a black community for it to be mainstream i guess.
