The world is very volatile right now where due to so many events that have happened in the post pandemic world. Now more than ever it is important to live a frugal life where you live below your means, spend intentionally, and budget your money. In this video, I talk about the state of the world and 7 reasons why being frugal is so important right now.
1. The Unintended Effects of COVID Response Are Still Unknown
The COVID shutdowns affected people where they lost their jobs and businesses were not allowed to stay open. The government responded to this by pumping a lot of money into the economy through stimulus checks, unemployment benefits, low interest rates, and payment protection. Although this was a lifeline in the beginning, we're starting to see the negative side effects of this like inflation, increased house prices, and market crashes. As more time passes, we could see more negative effects and so being frugal is important to prepare for the uncertain future.
2. The Modern Economy Is Extremely Fragile
Our economic system is extremely complex consisting of complex supply chains. This complex system, however, is extremely fragile where the smallest change could throw it off course. For example, in 2021, changes in consumer behavior affected the supply chain where many store's shelves were empty. Being frugal is important because the economy could change extremely quickly and so we all must prepare living in such a fragile system.
3. World Order Is Being Challenged
The last few years we have seen many big world events occur involving world super powers. This has and could affect the economy drastically that harms individual's personal finances. It is important to be frugal in this volatile world where world order is being challenges because things could go from bad to worse very quickly.
4. Job Security Is Nonexistent
In the past, many people would get a job and stay at that job for most of their career because they received a good deal of job security; however, nowadays people change jobs every few years because job security is non existent. We live in a world where you can no longer rely 100% on a paycheck. And so being frugal is important because it's important to take steps to be financially secure so that you are not 100% dependent on a paycheck.
5. Life Is Becoming Increasingly Unaffordable
In the past few years, we have entered a cost of living crisis where inflation has increased the prices of everything. Life has become increasingly unaffordable and prices are unlikely to go back down. It is important to be frugal and intentional with your money in order to afford to live in this expensive world.
6. Nothing Really Makes Sense Right Now
Despite all of the bad things that have happened in the past few years, on paper, many things about the economy seem to be doing well; however, this does not necessarily make sense because many families are struggling financially right now. Being frugal is important because many people are struggling right now.
7. Nobody’s Coming to Save the Day
If we have learned anything over the past few years with everything that is going on, it is that nobody is coming to save the day. It is important to take responsibility over your personal finances because you are the only one who will protect you financially.

The best reason to be frugal is that you stop giving money to the vultures. Convincing people they are less unless they buy things they don't need, stripping natural resources of poor countries while they do it. There's peace of mind in frugality

In conversation I shared that I don’t shop at the mall. Everyone kind of ironically chimed “I don’t shop at the mall” I think they thought I was saying to mean I shop at boutiques or something. The irony is we primarily shop at thrifts and consignment stores. I didn’t correct them but it reinforced that frugal isnt yet a normal thing as it has been in the past. My grandmother would say if it’s clean and covers your bits who cares what others think. Nothing went to waste even planting saved seeds from fruit and vegetables. All the best everyone as we continue in this journey of life!

I think the one thing most investors miss when calculating intrinsic value, is that they look solely at the history to estimate growth in the future. The growth rate is very important, it arguably should take the most time in valuation. The past 10 years could be unusually good/bad due to acquisitions/dispositions affecting financials. Look to the future and make your best judgements.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

Excellent video, Austin. Just one thing: the putting "profits over people" thing obscures what's happening: corporations are choosing to share their profits exclusively with their stockholders and upper management (they're people too, just extremely privileged people), rather than those whose work creates those profits (and without whose work there would be no profits). It's also true that anyone with an index fund is likely profiting too: these investors (like you and like me) are receiving unearned income from this same corporation. You can be in the worker class and investor class (albeit in a relatively small way) at the same time.

I'm happy that I grew up next to a swamp in a small shack. It was nasty going to school with rich kids with horses and frequent European vacations. The yate 9 course meals at lunch and wore British vests and nice clothes. After 15 years of severe poverty I decided not to try that again.I ended up very rich with my wife in retirement but I watch where we are going and know it can be beat with strategy and an open mind.

@MazzyOmmS-yj2ll you might want to fact check your comment. I know you're too lazy to do that so I did it for you. You're Welcome. Did Klaus Schwab write "You will own nothing and be happy" in his 2020 book "COVID-19: The Great Reset"? No, that's not true: The book contains no such quote. Additionally, neither Schwab nor the World Economic Forum, which he founded, advocate for abolishing private ownership of goods and property. The phrase may have originated from a Danish member of parliament who wrote an essay that was reproduced by the WEF titled "Welcome to 2030. I own nothing, have no privacy, and life has never been better."

I was a therapist at a nursing home😥 during Covid and still work there now. It was horrible. We lost so many patients and some of my coworkers got Covid as well. I had it twice (January 21 and January 23). I had no symptoms and my family (5 of us too) didn’t get it. I kept my distance, washed my hands and wore a mask. If Covid ever comes back like that then I will retire ( I’m only 3 years away from it). I pray the world never goes through anything like that ever again… and yes I was vaccinated ( my choice and not forced) with no side effects either. Be blessed Ronnie

Was always used to having money, had a nice car and now I’m broke. My dad and stepmom both passed away a couple years ago so I spent a lot of my money to help with my depression(nice things, feel good items and experiences) and it did help with my depression, for the time. After a while now I’m almost 30 with no car, was unemployed for a while so had no money coming in so went broke and now I’m starting back to save and get back on track as I just got back a new job. I think I can do it with the discipline, I just need time and money saving strategies. I’m looking forward to see how much I can actually save in a year or two

I would add on to your point where people don't feel secure anymore with their jobs. Now people don't even want to participate with those jobs with big corporations. We the people are on to the corporations scheme of profits at any cost. Everyone is giving the corporate concept the middle finger. It's a gig society from now on. To hell with making the very few corporate elites ridiculously wealthy.

Great video. More jobs are being created because many people need to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. And things are going wonderfully for the 1% who own most of the assets since inflation benefits them. So the economy is strong for the people who it's set up to benefit.
