mate, he's being ironic with the title. Seeing as the ROLAND TB-303 has been obsolete for many years and in order to buy one second hand in decent condition, you may have to take out a small mortgage to pay for it, THE BEHRINGER TD-3 is not only reasonably priced, it's about the nearest you're going to get sound-wise to a ROLAND TB-303 and if you pay a bit extra for the BEHRINGER TD-3-MO, then this upgrade is the clone to the modified ROLAND TB-303, known as the "DEVIL FISH" 303 which can cost you over a grand to get someone to modify the it for you? I think what BEHRINGER have done here is brilliant. They obviously care about people wanting to make music with the old synth sound of acid and has helped us achieve that.

You are absolutely right where this is concerned. I think the point of contention for me, where there is one: is when they clone something still on the market, and in particular when it’s a small boutique industry like eurorack modules. Taking the designs of a company that is a handful of people who worked very hard to make a much celebrated module, and mass producing a clone with the potential to steamroll them right out of business; and to top it off Behringer doesn’t, or at least hasn’t to date had the ability to make their own original designs of the same caliber. That’s just straight up shitting on the little guy without whom you’d have no design to clone. Unchecked that leads to no more little guys making really innovative and unique things that we love and celebrate. Cheap clones are all good, until there’s nothing but old cheap clones and nothing new. That said, I quite like a lot of behringer’s new stuff and I’ll certainly have the td3 mo at some point

IMO as long as Roland refuses to actually build full-size original instruments, Behringer is totally fine to keep re-releasing them. Personally I don't care whether they're digital or analog, as long as they're actually fully sized and as long as they SOUND GOOD. But Roland can't seem to grasp the idea that we don't want to pay $500 for Volca-sized contraptions.

Roland decision to remake digital version of its classic gear left the market wide open for someone to make analog remakes.

Behringer makes a lot of functional meat and potatoes gear, and their recent expansion into classic analog type instruments have been really impressive. I like the brand. I get what people criticize about the company - I just don't care, myself.

My RD8 has issues. I got their Odyssey that had issues and I sent it back. I got a mixer of theirs that died within a few days. I do like their Neutron though. That still works. I replaced their Odyssey for Korgs which is great and I am lucky to able to get Korgs 2600m very soon. Didn't want to go back to them for their arp.

'Behringer doesn't break, it's already broken' - I wept with laughter. 'Big mouth, nothing behind it' - Equivalent English saying - 'all mouth, no trousers'. I think I still have that Behringer compressor from the 90's in my garage.

My whole take on Behringer is it’s just like any company in a capitalistic society: if you can make comparable products at a cheaper price point then have at it. There’s cheap knockoffs in every industry, clothes, toys, generic store brand foods etc. Some that just want to crank out products and some that actually care and have more attention to detail to be real similar to the original. Behringer is trying to fill a niche gap and are providing decent quality synths at affordable prices. I have no problems with that. There’s no one pointing a gun at your head to buy Behringer. If you have the money and want to be a "tone purist” buy your Moogs, Roland’s etc. most are out of reach for a lot of people. Drink a few glasses of wine and wax poetic on how your Moog sounds so much better…others will sip their beers and create music on their Behringers…to each there own. I just don’t get why people act like they’re taking a moral high ground and talk shit about Behringer ripping companies off. What you’ve never used generic prescription drugs in your life? You’ve never bought that store brand knockoff cereal or Mac & cheese? Only big name motor oil in your car? Really? Get over it.

Do people really forget that ASM is basically just a new brand of a Chinese manufacturer that makes instruments and parts for quite a chunk of the music equipment industry? Behringer seems to have made some PR blunders the last couple years and they really need to improve their website design and stop overusing the same images in product descriptions. But I agree they seem to have made some great stuff. I plan to get the CAT desktop synth in future, maybe a Deepmind 12 too. Though for my first hardware synth I will likely go with a Hydrasynth Deluxe.

@@winesynths Thomann is offering the Deluxe at a very compelling price for my region. The engine seems incredible and the interface well thought out. Sonicstate has a video on the FM capabilities that especially surprised me. Glen himself sent them a preset for FM piano that was so on point I think most would have assumed an actual FM focused synth like a DX7 or its software clones were responsible. And another doing a bass shootout with a Moog was surprisingly close. Incredible flexibility. I also look forward to using the keyboard to control my MPE capable softsynths such as Arturia Pigments, and other hardware synths I'll probably get in the future. Though I should probably get a sequencer such as s digitakt to place on the convenient onboard shelf, or a software sequencer to load on my laptop and place that there.

Exactly my reasoning as well. I was looking for my first hardware synth and was saving for a DeepMind12. But then I discovered the hydrasynth and got a hydrasynth explorer which saved me enough money to buy a behringer model D to sit next to it 😊

A bit off topic but have you ever used/owned an Oberheim Echoplex and is there any effect pedal that comes close to it? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately not. The only Oberheim FX, I ever had, been a Cyclone Arpeggiator! 🤓

My first desktop mixer was one of the Behringer Eurorack 4 channel units maybe 15 years ago. Paid $40 for it, eventually sold it for $40, and it never once had any functional issues. My only complaint was the overall fidelity of the output, but for a $40 mixer that could be dropped off a cliff and still work, it honestly wasn’t THAT much of a step down from a small mixer in the $100-200 range from any of the other mass produced brands.

I also have an OG TD-3 which I have NO complaints with, having been priced out of the 303 market since 1998 or so. 100 bucks for a synth I’ve coveted since back when it was “only” $1200 secondhand? Uh, yes please! I also have an original Roland TR-606, and I can tell you the cheap build quality of the behringer is a feature, not a bug. The old Rolands probably feel heavier duty because they used thicker plastics. Now manufacturing has been refined, pcbs are lighter and can fit more components on them, and microprocessors have evolved exponentially. I can guarantee that the build quality of the behringer vs the OG Roland is not much different in terms of how much abuse they can take. (Side note- the Roland Boutique clones, say what you will about them, are ACTUALLY built better than most other versions, I’ll give them that!)

I will be getting the TD-3-MO as soon as it's available through Sweetwater in the US. I personally have a few Behringer products myself. I have the Poly D, Deepmind 12, MS-1-RD, TD-3-RD, RD-8, RD-9 and RD-6. I even have their UMC1820 + ADA8200 interfaces, a few pedals, compressors, patchbays even their B-1 mic. I have no complaints and they all work as they should. Behringer will continue getting my money regardless what anyone has to say about the coming. They are the only company who is listening to our wants and needs and they are delivering without breaking our bank accounts.

how did you turn off the internal leds in each corner that flash every note when playing a pattern?

I don‘t think that you can turn them off. But they are only visible when it’s really dark in your studio! I like it!

Yeah, I got pretty tired of the hate. I'm sure they make the odd piece of duff gear but my own experience with Behringer, as someone with a limited budget, has been nothing but positive. I have the original TD-3, the Poly D, and recently bought a bunch of FX pedals: it's all great - no problems whatsoever, and sounds fantastic. Contrast with my uncle's experience: he just bought a Moog One which is, what, £7K? £8k? It has a raft of build quality issues, ships with a broken sequencer due to a still unfixed bug in the firmware (delete a note from a sequence and listen as everything else on the track is corrupted), and after a month of ownership has developed a fault where it literally won't stop playing and reboots at random. I got to have a quick play with it at the weekend and it sounds *lovely* but I also noticed that, as well as the "won't stop playing once a note has started" problem, it doesn't respond to some of the controls either - he described its behaviour as unpredictable, which I think is quite kind. He's waiting for it to be picked up for repair or replacement. Granted, Behringer have the advantage of manufacturing at scale (presumably using lots of automation, which generally yields predictable high quality when applied properly), whereas Moog are more of a boutique outfit but... come on... it's an £8k synth: for that money it ought to be just about perfect.

I’ve heard sweetwater stopped selling behringer products for a while because they’re gear was garbage. Sweetwater now is an official Behringer vendor again which shows improvements in quality.

Probably better terms rather than improvements in quality. I bought an ms101 and had to send it straight back as the keyboards are cheap plastic and was failed before I even opened it. Beringher did fix it, but this affected the warranty. On another note, I've an original behringer compressor that has lasted for years and years and I never even have to think about it as it just works.

No, they stopped mostly because they were stealing designs from other companies like Mackie and Drawmer... But now that Sweetwater was sold to an investment firm they don't care, so now they are a monopoly for many Berhinger products and fix the prices. Cheaper to order from overseas than Sweetwater. The 2600 was almost half the price elsewhere, even with international shipping.

I've made the exact same experience - not one of my Behinger synths has failed me, while many more expensive manufacturers had issues. Especially my beloved Moog Sub37 had 3 defects in the first 4 years...

Mate i need ur help, 1 year ago i change my audio interface, since that i had a ground noise, my old interface was firewire connection and now its USB, i think this is the problem "USB", how can i fix it? , my synth is roland se-02 and i connect by USB and 1 "3.5" to 2 "6.2" cable... Thanks

First, you should get you an active USB hub. We make very good experience with the "ICY IBHUB1703QC3 USB 3.0". Then plug this one into a _different_ usb-port than your audio interface. I presume you have a PC? Then it also really depends on the parts used in the PC in my opinion. Brand PCs and Laptops like Dell or Lenovo should make fewer problems. On Mac, it works fine for me. I had a terrible Behringer mixer in the 90s and was sceptical of what was a budget brand. But their latest range of analogue repopped units is fantastic. The quality for price is incredible and I never thought I’d have a studio full of lovely analogue gear 20 years later at a fraction of the equivalent vintage price. Their sequencers are really intuitive and I find them the best on board sequencers of any brand (esp. Korg). The MO has blown my mind recently and the RD9 is about the best drum machine think I’ve ever used. People can hate on Behringer, the rest of us will be admiring them

I think the sequencer of the ms1 is crap but indeed love the drum machine sequencer and also the td 3 (exactly the same that is on the OG 303)

I’ve only owned 2 Behringer products so far, but I have no complaints and I think you get good quality for the money. If you can afford Roland or Korg or Moog or….etc. then good for you. Just realize that the equipment won’t make you a better musician. You’re limited by your own creativity.

I watched the entire video, waiting to hear the words "But först vee must harvest ze bløød" - but it never happened.

I have a question that I haven't been able to get an answer to, maybe you guys can help me. I have a 303 connected to an older EHX Deluxe Memory Man (from the 90's) but the 303 signal instantly overdrives my Memory man (red LED) no matter how low I turn the volume on the 303. When I plug a guitar, everything is fine and the overdrive LED doesn't go into red (unless I go a bit crazy with the blend and feedback knobs). Do you have the same issue on your Memory Boy? And if yes, how do you attenuate the signal from the 303? Thanks in advance

The Memory Boy Deluxe doesn‘t make any trouble with distortion or overdrive in conjunction with synths. What could cause problems and strange behaviour on a OG TB-303 and pedals are symmetric instrument cables! Make sure to be mono from start to end! Good luck! 🍀

This is the #zeitgeist of our times tbh. - buy cheap, or even better: CHEAPEST - do not care for the circumstances (company ethics, manufacturing circumstances) - do not focus on what you already have - quickly move on to the next big thing for the 15 minutes it is "en vogue" - never read manuals - do not spend time and effort to really LEARN the gear and the methods - buy PLENTY of cheap gear instead of a few good pieces - buy what everybody else has - do not make substantial art, do generic loops instead - spend more time on Social Media than at your actual music setup - only read headlines and #hashtags - spread lots of online hate comments towards people that handle things differently - create a fake online life that has pretty much nothing to do with what you really are - take comments like this seriously 🥳

Interesting to hear about the delivery times. I work for a chip manufacturer, we produce many different product, including ARM MPUs and MCUs, as well as many other products. The whole supply chain situation is horrendous, this will be impacting all semi vendors, and all synth/ music gear manufacturers as they simply don’t have the volume to command a large allocation. It’s a horrendous situation.

“Made in China” is everywhere actually, and the overall quality is good. As for Behringer(Music Tribe) they have a massive factory in Zhongshan, China. I think we should pay more attention to the quality and sound, instead of where the products has been made.

As a Boutique TB-03 owner, I will say; The TD-3, does actually have a bit more tonal character. As much as I don't want to admit it, the TB-03 doesn't sound bad, it just doesn't have a soul hahaha

As a TD-3, TB-03, TB-3 and TB-303 owner, I think that out of these four, the 303 just sounds most pleasant and also upfront and direct. They all have their characteristic tone imho. Or special features like the TB-3 with its touchpad. To me the TB-03 sounds quite "digital", which I like it for. The TD-3 has a very distinctive note to its sound, which is always there, no matter how clean or distorted the signal is. It cuts through in the mix, but I cannot stand ot for very long. To me it's like looking at LED light. Very bright, makes you wake, but it's not comfortable to the eyes. What I really like about having these options besides the clear winner (the original unit) is that they are pretty easy to mix together, because they do not fight each other's spaces in tonality and since the groove also differs from machine to machine - different timing for slides and accents - they also complement each other well in the time domain. So I like them all.

My own experience with Behringer has been with their effects pedals. They are cheep, but not the cheapest, and I find them useful for when I want to try out a new effect in my pedal chain, but don't want to drop a lot of money on the kit. For some pedals like their classic overdrive, a copy of the Ibenez Tube Screamer, you can get that classic sound for an affordable price instead of paying thousands on reverb for an original, if you can even find one. I've just ordered the TD-3 because I wanted a bass sequencer, but I'm not going to try and find a TR-3, because I am not made of money. I really appreciate that Beringer are making recreations of older gear, especially because I am going for a retro sound.

Couldn't agree more. If Uli keeps it up, Behringer bashers will become Behringer stashers! I have: 1. Deepmind 12 and although it does have a cheap feeling keyboard, it has polyphonic sequencing, aftertouch and pressure control on the keybed. Before it was released, you would struggle to find that in a dedicated MIDI keyboard for a fair price, nevermind as part of a 12 voice analog synth! And talk about value for money, any others similar are double and beyond in price! It does have questionable shortfalls such as Level control only available for OSC2 or the arpeggiator does not go down to 1/1 timing but they did a fine job for their first synthesizer release. 2. FX2000 Virtualizer - packed with presets and decent menu diving 3. Its older brother Virtualizer Pro DSP 1000p on eBay recently - made in 1998 and still running! Packed with presets but lots of patience required. 4. An Ultragain ADA8200 - this thing is so essential to my setup, expands my inputs bigtime. Apart from not having a centre detent on the volume knobs, it's a perfect piece of equipment. I wonder how buying RME interfaces would make a difference unless you're looking to have like 300 tracks in one project! One thing a few other commenters have touched on is so correct - it's barely the equipment/instrument that counts - it's the musician/sound engineer! Additionally, I have the Korg MS20 and completely dry, it gets boring really fast as it's mono. Run it through a guitar pedal and it really comes alive because you're adding a larger spectrum of tones and it doesn't sound as empty to our ears. Don't expect a synth to sound great and you'll have more fun than most of the casual buyers who expect perfection on arrival. Although I don't own and have not used any other Behringer synths or drum machines, your video has made me really want to! BTW in your setup, you should use "ghost kick" technique or gating to prevent the sudden harsh volume increase coming from your synth sounds. Really makes a difference!

I turned this on to see info about the TD-3 MO (which I just bought) but am more impressed with your kind words to Behringer ...I have accumulated quite a bit of Uli's gear in the last couple years, and my experience has been very positive...I will continue to buy more...cant wait for his Jupiter Six clone...

Seems like a great idea to me, there are a lot of people that wouldn't feel comfortable opening up their hardware to install mods, or don't have the skill level or access to the tools/work space thats required to fully mod out a TD-3. The MO brings a lot of great features and improvements from the mod-scene to those people, and in a very afforable and accessable package. Don't see many companies doing that with their products, actually don't see many companies making afforable alternatives to their vintage gear at all really.

The big one on the left is a Moog poster that came with the Matriarch. The smaller ones on the right are a print of a Kraftwerk family picture and drawing by my partner. She also made the big paintings you can see in some of my other videos. I like Art! Could spend days in galleries and museums! 😁👍

5:52, different set-ups will have different noise. Although my desktop and td-3-mo are connected to the same power conditioner, USB connection is a noisey mess. I only bear it to change midi settings and to make patterns quickly.

I would never recommend to use USB-Midi to anyone. Unless you are using a pro-grade powered hub etc. So far, My USB setup is noisefree except with Roland Boutiques! 🙄 But I spent a lot of effort and money in it. With classic MIDI cable connections there is 100% no noise and you also have lower latency. Good subject to talk about! Maybe in one of the next videos! 🍀

It's more than likely not your power. USB cycles at 1000Hz, and if your device is not properly shielded that tone will permeate through everything that is connected to or through it. Funnily enough, higher end keyboards are usually the worst as out of everything I have (I use 12 usb over midi things I use for my live sets) my nord is the worst and my 3 td-3's and rd-9 are silent. It's a solvable problem though, just get a usb isolator off amazon or somewhere. They run around 20 (usd) and up. It's one of those things that every keyboardist should just have in their kit.

Say what you want about them, they're doing what Roland refuses to; Recreate vintage music equipment that accurately reflects the original in look, feel, and sound.

I regret one thing about Behringer. Quality control. I see people with broken gear (sometimes arrived dysfunctional from the factory) They focus too much on the final price... Desktop synths are around 250-300 euros. They would be as competitive around 350-400 with better quality and durability. For the moment, I don't have any issue with my Behringer's gear but I don't feel confident about durability. (I have pro1, wasp and model d... i really like the sounds and the desktop format, so I would like to keep them functional as long as possible)

I agree with this, I went through 3 Pro-1s before I got a working one. First was not calibrated, second was broken midi, 3rd wouldn’t turn on. Finally got the last one and it was great.

Not doing any real advertising is something that make Behringer able to make shit so cheap. The drama around it is better advertising than they could ever pay for.

My behringer synths are some of my fav! The odyssey is great value and a brilliant players synth for instance. Better than paying overblown vintage prices and more features! On the other hand, Moog and Sequential have been amazing in regards to their customer support. Out of warranty, moog replaced my mainboard and my OB6 is going in to get its output transistors replaced. For those reasons, I bought a Moog Matriarch and a Prophet 10 rev4

I agree! I think if you just make music with them and don’t focus on comparing to the original they are perfect! 👍🏾 I try not to even think of them as clones. I love the Neutron!!

……I kind of hate the neutron right from the beginning….not because of the sound but the types of potentiometers used on it. Way too “logarithmic” for my taste. Tuning this thing to actually play with my others synths is really painful. I also believe it is a bit slow…and I tried both the MIDI and the USB connection. That said…good to create some weirdo noises! In that case the progressive potentiometer are advantageous compared to others. I bought it brandnew and it came with some fundamentally messed setup right out of the box. Took some research to figure out how to correct that…and a few hours trying to turn the dials just a fraction of a degree to get the right values adjusted. Meanwhile I learned that the best way to use it is to switch it on and let it run for an hour or so…and then tune it. Painful! That’s the part of analogue synths nobody was missing….

I have a td-3 which I like but I've noticed that its scale is not really tuned. When I tune it I always tune the middle note correct so the rest is about correct. This is ofcourse only really noticable when using a broad range of tones. It's feasible to use auto tune on it though, and I don't hear any clear artifacts because of that. :) Edit: It's not really "auto", since I always use midi to sequence the td3, I simply input the same midi notes to gsnap. Anyone else with the same experience? Edit2: New subscriber. Greetings from Sweden :)

"Doesn't break, already broken" isn't as true now as it used to be, but I think it's a pretty fair assessment of both the pros and cons of Behringer's quality, traditionally. Behringer has a history of releasing bad units right out of the box, especially with their stompbox pedals and mixers, but the good units simply never die. Since they entered the synth game, I haven't really nearly as many reports of bad units as I used to. I've heard more complaints about predatory business practices, which is... fair.

the same thing is true for synths - where ehx is a reputable non-boutique manufacturer that sits squarely between behringer pedals and expensive brands, korg and arturia sit between behringer synths and expensive brands, also mfb and vermona, especially second-hand (those units last a lifetime) same functionality, just no reference to classic cult must-have examples there's cheap, and there's really cheap - it all comes down to how much you really need your next synth fix and if you want to pinch the last penny to buy another one

As a foh mixxer i used some Behringer stuf. It was not bad, only basic. Right now they make verry good pro audio devices like the Wing, x32 and so on. The synthesizers they make are awesome!

I still use a behringer mixer i bought TWENTY YEARS AGO. nothing wrong with it. Im looking forward to continuing to use my Boog, my neutron, my RD6, Crave, ARP ect fer the next twenty!🎉😂

If you have an audio interface, you can run anything you want through FL Studio (or any other DAW) to mix in with other sounds and add effects if desired. Over MIDI, yes you can sequence this using patterns you designed in FL Studio. It has pattern memory for patterns you design with the built-in sequencer, but if you want to sequence it externally with your computer you need to save the patterns there instead. However, bear in mind that this does not have any patch memory. You can store patterns (notes, time, accents, slide, etc) but the actual sound is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) with regards to the position of the knobs, switches, buttons, and CV/Gate patch points on the front panel.

My biggest complaint about behringers business model ( stealing designs - making minimal changes - and releasing them for cheap in plastic boxes ) means they are cornering the market ( thanks to their Chinese mega factories ) and stopping other INNOVATIVE brands from occupying the same market space. For example korg ARP reissue. They will be discouraged to do that again because Behringers copy came along - stole their market space and released the exact same thing - except not as good for cheaper. It's not helping the synth world by stifling innovation.

@5napc1ty the korg ARP may not be innovative but their team saw what the masses want and they made their reissue first - made in Japan - fair price. Behringer comes along - copy their idea ( being an ARP reissue) - undercut them by 20percent on price - plastic - Chinese - no r&d. Sure behringer, make an affordable reissue I'm all for it - but why bully people out of the market it's malicious and the synth world suffers. Keylab is the perfect example. Another recent example is the their new boog grandmother. Poor old Moog only released their grandmother 3 years ago. The Behringers one is near identical. Shameless. Asif they havnt copied Moog enough? Why is the crave identical to the mother32 ( except sonically ). Behringer please just try and come up with more of your own ideas or at least distinguish your offerings from ones out there already. The deepmind12 is still fantastic!

@@johnny2hats2 you don't exactly know what you are talking about, are you? Poor KORG ruined by B? Are you suggesting that one of the biggest synthmakers, who also copied an old synth, didn't improve on it, gave mini keys, etc. is going out of business bc B also copied that same synth and gave it some additional specs (which actually work)? It's not plastic, and actually has a sturdier hardware than the original... a d for some people 200 euros difference can be a deciding factor when buying gear. I'm not fanboying, I don't care for brands as long as I can make good use of an instrument. B so far so good.

The original Tb-303 is also plastic. I have nothing against plastic. I am not such a green boy. I regret Behringer didn't go for the same casing as the original TB-303. I have also several Behringers and everything is working fine, except a brandnew microphone I commanded didn't work. I still must send it back.

This can also happen with any other brand. I heard a lot about quality issues with Sequential i.e. And the Test-Polybrute I had here was not flawless. But I am not sure if I would buy a microphone or headphones from B. Even in the entry level you can find some decent stuff from Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic or any other specialized manufacturer. That would always be my first choice.

Jaja, there are always this Behringer haters out there with stereotyp comments and they seem simple ignorant. Some people still belive Behringer only making low end gear but this was never correct. B was one of the pioneers making audio gear affordable and sure not all gear from the 90s and later is great. But tell me one brand only make great gear, it is not existing. Behringer made a lot good in the last 10 years. One example is the X32 console u can see very often on the FOHs of the world (by the hand, me as live musician hate digital consoles because they all got latency). Korg was smart in the last 10 years too and brought us great affordable stuff like the Microkorg, Volcas and some great Vox gear for stringed instruments, invited the Nutube and so on. Yamaha brought us the Reface series ("maybe" inspired by the Microkorg ^^). It is great Uli Behringer joined the Synthesizer market. Great Synths are out and great stuff is planed. Roland...brought out the Boutique series...cool Synths for their own but they not nailed it let them sound like their own synth legends, they come not close enough. I own some gear from the Behringer family and i am happy with it. U always must check before buy what u get for your money and if it fits to you and if the quality fit in the context, unimportant the brand.

Got behringer td3 and rd6 running through a behringer dx500 mixer .excellent sound quality.

A synth is a synth...weather its an original or a clone. Each has to deliver when you unmute that track and introduce "the sound" into the mix! I have heard the behringer CAT and it sucks... but thats because I own a REAL Octave CAT SRM2. I also own a behringer Pro-1 and I absolutely love it (Just Never play a real Pro1 in front of me please ;)

@@Leviathan-mj8gi True! With some devices the differences are bigger, with other they are less noticeable. I considered getting the RD8, but even in th demos I had to turn those off. The cymbals sound so awful, can't stand them. So I went with the original unit and that machine is just so lovely. To me it also sparks something inside when I use it. Those units are really special. Sound, groove and also workfllow. Expensive, yes. But I rather spend money on something I enjoy on a daily basis instead of a car that I just use to get to work or haul food from the supermarket :-D

Toyota’s build quality is top notch, and some of their vehicles, like the Land Cruiser and their luxury version of it, the Lexus LX 570, are some of the most expensive vehicles in the SUV segment. I would say the closest comparison to Behringer is GM’s brand called Geo. I’ve had the pleasure of owning some iconic vintage synthesizers and a couple of Behringer synths, and the Behringer synths were made very poorly. They shouldn’t even be called clones. They should be called bootleg versions, because they aren’t close enough in comparison to be deemed clones. Behringer is great at making their synths look similar in appearance to some of the classic synths, but the build quality is so much worse. You can tell that they are not made by employees who take pride in their work.

@@youlittlesaget I own 32 synths, 6 of which are behringers...Pro-1, Neutron, Model D, DM12, and 2 TD3s. I love the Pro-1 and the Neutron. The DM12 is great and the td3s are ehhh..passable.. The D is my second because the first had to be returned cuz an osc crapped out...They are OK but since buying these Behringers, I started collecting some Vintage synths and Vintage Russian synths... so I dont see myself ever getting another Behringer... its not worth having a partial experience of what the real thing should be... (although the proton looks nice 😆)

I have had nothing but problems with Behringer gear. Deepmind broke, MS-1 broke, sold my 2600 because I was scared it was going to break. I bought a disposable TD-3. didn't really enjoy your video BTW :-/

Sooooo, this just in ... my TD-3 is defective LOL. So that's all 3 Behringer synths that I have owned for more than a month defective.

behringher ddm4000 was my favorite mixer. the assembly quality nowhere near to pioneer but the sound quality and the quality of the effects is much better.

This is more of a brand name and vague analogy of the Behringer TD-3-. I would have enjoyed hands-on sound & function tests.

I am a carer and don't have much money. Behringer give me something to look forward to. I don't smoke or drink . I love Behringer.

The only complaint I have with Behringer is that there was no audio input in their Deep Mind line (Deep Mind 6, Deep Mind 12) to take advantage of the effects within the Deep Mind (effects are of the TC electronic, they did pretty damn good reverbs and delays)

I know this post is old but I just wanted to let you know that you might want to look at the Korg NTS1… apparently it is a very capable effects processor (and an itty-bitty synth, lol) with an open SDK and some of the user created (and free effects) are pretty amazing… And it’s only about 100 bucks…. Quite small and can be powered by a usb brick.

I don’t get why people would get mad at Behringer? They are giving the people what they want reproducing classic synths that cost way more than their worth if you can find one for sale. It’s something a company like Roland could of did 20 years ago.

because they've ripped off other designs, caught copying the Mackie PCB. They tried to get around certification of their gear in the US. They don't play fair. Over and over again, same disgusting tactics.

They are from Divatech. It was a kind of sub brand of Focal in the nineties. They were also sold as Focal MC-26 and were largely used as cinema and broadcast speakers.

This was interesting, but it didn't feel unbiased, more like you wanted to put the positives across. So I think you skipped past one of the main issues people have, and maybe missed another, certainly one I struggle with. When Behringer initially started putting out clones, I thought Great, why not do that it's what people want. Even if they don't sound exactly the same, they still sound decent and, one of the things I like about certain old synths like The Wasp and Cat are their unique interface/layout. Mono synths with different layouts can help you come up with different ideas. Brilliant, I'm all for that. What doesn't sit right with me is when they started copying synths that are currently in production by the company that designed them. The Moog Dfam copy is a good example. And the one that caused the biggest stir, the Keystep clone. Now you said Arturia are "Supposedly PC", I'm not sure what you meant by that. Do you mean they're a supposedly ethical business, or that they don't put out potentially Antisemitic, Cork sniffer promotional material? Either way, the issue people took with that was that it was an obvious bully tactic. They made it almost identical, and didn't credit the designers. The same with the Dfam copy. Behringer can make synths cheaper because they have no R&D costs, they use other people's ideas, as well as cheaper components, labour. So at the very least give credit to the company who R&D'd it. All they were doing was showing their intent with a bully move, and that doesn't sit well with alot of people. Companies like Moog aren't as massive as people seem to think. We should give credit to the ideas people or all we'll be left with is Berhringer regurgitating clones of clones. I think there's a place for what Behringer were doing initially, cloning unobtainable classics, but there's no need to be cunts about it. That's what annoyed a lot of people, and you didn't address that point. Unfortunately, I do realise from reading comments sections that this is a minority view. Most people don't care about right and wrong just as long as they can save buck or 2. I read a lot of "I know that, I just don't care." Which is the answer anyone gives when they can't defend an argument. Anyway, I've said my bit. I think you skipped quickly by that point. What are your thoughts on it, if any?

Honestly, I would not hesitate to buy a Juno-60, TB-303 or 909 Clone from Roland, if they would only offer one. Also, for the triple of the price of a Behringer! But they simply have nothing in this direction. Watch my JX-08 videos about Roland cloning themselves with those "boutiques". It's not even fun! I also bought an ARP Odyssey made by Korg which is really awesome and looks far better than the Behringer clone. The other cloned non-synth stuff by Behringer is without any interest to me.

Behringer strains my moral compass more with every release. But I don't think it has to be all or nothing. The way I handle it is - I only buy Behringer USED, which keeps that money out of Uli's hands. I only buy Behringer when the real thing is unfeasible (2600, CS80, 808, etc). I never buy clones of current products (I bought a real DFAM after the clone tempted me). I buy plenty of (brand new) gear from companies like Moog and smalltime eurorack builders when I can afford it, to keep them in business.

@@Leo9ine That's pretty much how I'd do it, too, just out of my consumer habits. I'm likely to buy used, anyway, and if it's at all feasible to get the original, that's just what I'd prefer to get. Nobody wants a Rorek watch, or a Gushi purse. If a Behringer clone is competing with another clone from the original company, I'll go with whichever clone my ears tell me to go to. I'm not going to buy a 808 clone I don't really like just because it's Roland.

Arturia haven't avoided their own controversy. They implied they had collaborated with Mutable on the Microfreak and had to issue a hasty clarification when it became apparent they had made a synth that used Mutables open source code extensively, but had no formal partnership.

Behringer technology is great especially for the price.

I was born in the Soviet Union, and many American synth-heads absolutely *can't stand* my number 1 reason for hating Behringer: I hate to be told I'm "cheap" by the manufacturer. In my neck of the woods, people tried rise from poverty and acquire wealth. In America, people fight against wealth (corporations - the face of elitism), so it's cool to hate expensive things. It's an inverse relationship. If I see two synths both priced $300, I'll go for the one that doesn't tell me "Now YOU TOO can buy it! Because it's cheap!" I hate fake, corporate New Left thinking, and that entire psychological model where buying "cheap" is supposed to make you "a good person" as opposed to rich people - who are all "elitists". It doesn't mean I won't buy another cheap synth. I will. But I don't want the manufacturer to tell me my worth. I want to be able to tell other people that I bought it cheap. That's the difference.

@@winesynths I agree 100%. And we remember when the Volkswagen appeared, it was also marketed as a car "for the people" (as well as the Korg Volca). The difference with Behringer is its fan base today is aggressive and attempts to pass judgment on people for their preferences - I don't believe Volkswagen people called BMW owners "haters of poor people." It's a specifically modern socialist syndrome. We used to get behaviour like this in USSR during Khruschev, where your neighbours commented on what you had.

Just curious if the peeps who have a problem with Behringer "recreating/cloning/whatever you wanna call it" synths have the same problem with, say, Arturia's "V-Collection" synths?

I didn't understand the Behringer hate for quite a while, though I kind of understood why people even take a stance when I saw prices for their gear compared to other brands at my local retailer. I have a small Behringer mixer I bought secondhand many many years ago - totally faultless and remains so to this day. I love it. I bought a newer and even smaller one for some USB connectivity and I only replaced it with an interface from someone else because it just couldn't route audio the way I wanted. In other words, it was not a quality problem. That said, I just haven't been interested in their synths.

Oh and another thing, no one has a go at "other companies" copying or cloning.

I will talk about 'Black Corporation' Synths soon! This is clearly the other extreme of the clone business and I have the chance, that thy lend me the synths for a while for testing. I already made a demo video with the Xerxes which is awesome! And I pre-ordered their Jupiter-8 clone, which is also overdue because of chip shortage btw! The most important thing for me is to feel good and confident with a synth and to get fast and satisfying results while producing. And this depends on your personal taste and creative workflow. Like any other musical instrument. It's not about prices and brands for me. 🍀
