The Bengal area was on of the richest areas pre British time, it was contributing 20 percent of the entire subcontinent till this date no state in the world has been able to put such contributions. California is close but not yet there even with Sillicon Valley. The Bengal part is full of water and has on of the most arable and fertile land in the world.

Even if this 20% of subcontinent GDP is true it's a meaningless figure, what are we supposed to be impressed that one state was 1/5 of economy of some geographic concept? Bangladeshi needs a decent government to build infrastructure which will protect it from climate change. As long as the crooks stay in charge, stealing the wealth and not investing it into the nation, then Bangladesh is doomed to fail.

Corruption is the #1 problem in Bangladesh. There is a saying: Rajuk fixes a broken road. Then Wasa(sewage) tears it up to fix plumbing then wait Rajuk to fix the road and then Wasa comes back to tear up the road again. There is obviously the coordination problem but also classic corruption. Contract for fixing up road and sewage is how many make money.

Such an agreement is already in place between India and Nepal. There are talks of a comprehensive free trade agreement between India and Bangladesh(without free movement), supported by both parties in both countries. Trains running between the counties have been increasing steadily for a while. We already solved most of the exclave problems with land swaps, which is huge. Experts think a similar agreement can be made between Sri Lanka once the economic tensions cool off. Pakistan is a lost cause though.

It shows the old Dhaka Division before it had been divided into Dhaka including the part south of the river Padma called Greater Faridpur which is going to become the nineth or the tenth division of our country which might get named Padma after the mighty river itself, and the Maymansingha (Mymansing) division on the north. There's actually an interesting story regarding how Pakistan gained Bengal after the partition. Initially, the agreement was for not two but three countries to be established after 1947 with East Bengal being Independent. But after 1947, that did not happen Muhammad Ali Jinnah called the original agreement a typo and made East Pakistan a peripheral colony for the extraction of resources and wealth.

Kolkata city wasn’t existing at the era of Mughal Empire. It’s only the British who created the Kolkata city as their Capital of British India. All of 6 states of Myanmar formed together the great Arakan state which was divided by British and Buddhists extremists from United Bengal or United Bangladesh. At the present the Indian States and the Burmese States was the part of United Bengal or United Bangladesh.

Partition of Bengal was more driven by Indian wish rather than British or Pakistan British PM in 1947 Clement Attlee had briefed the US ambassador in the United Kingdom on June 2, 1947, about the plan to partition India. “A division of Punjab is likely,” said Attlee, but he added there was a “distinct possibility Bengal might decide against partition and against joining either Hindustan or Pakistan” MA Jinnah, the leader of the Muslim League, was not averse to the idea of partition of Bengali since, as he said in his talks with Mountbatten, “What is the use of Bengal without Calcutta”. However, the Bengal Muslim League itself pulled in every direction and most other elites of Muslim league( Pakistan movement party) wanted. Few other individuals wanted a so called United Bengal country. There was even a proposal in April, 1947 to stop partition of Bengal and conduct the partition of Muslim-majority Kashmir kingdom which was opposed 2-1 by India future PM-Nehru and King of Kashmir- Hari Singh Partition of Bengal was largely driven by Indian wishes as it did not want a ethnolinguistic country in Indian subcontinent.

Before ppl start blaming the british for anything, a few facts: • Bengal was in decline when EIC took over •EIC was terrible, but direct British rule brough lots of good changes •Bangladesh today exists (partly) because the british divided it from West bengal. •Had it not been for that, we'd remain a servant of west bengal as it had been since mughal times.

British divided and put you in the pakistan and then pakistan killed millions of your people then India helped you. Britishers are the enemies they literally killed millions in bengal famine.

@@riderchallenge4250 brits didn't kill. The local government was bengali and elected by the ppl. Bengal's rice normally came from burma which was under japanese occupation so no relief. From 1899 to 1947 there was just one famine in all of India, that too due to war blockade by Japan.

@@riderchallenge4250 yes pakistanis killed and india helped, there's no denying. But how are brits to blame for 71? Bengalis wanted pakistan when the cabinet mission plan suggested three independent parts of india - as it happened anyway in 1971.

Bengal Subah was bad? There were supposed to be 3 countries Bengal, India and Pakistan you know that right? This plan was from the British primarily but hindu elites manipulation from the west bengal in the congress did not make it happen. Anyway, I think bangladesh should take Bengal Sultanate era as their model no matter what
