Why aren't your peppers ripening?

Time for an August pepper update from the greenhouse, let's chat about top tips for growing peppers, my pruning, and topping of the plants, and about mature fruits versus ripe fruits as well as ripening. There's a lot packed into this video but I'm just so pleased with my pepper crop this year that I want to tell you all about it.
I'm growing the variety King of the North which is specifically bred for the slightly cooler climate and it's proving a major success for me here in my Scottish garden. I sowed these back in January and kept them on a heat mat under grow lights until it was warm enough to bring them out to the greenhouse.

I've got lots of tomatoes and a good amount of peppers growing but not a single one has ripened yet. How crazy is this, I even had a dream last night that I went out and found all my tomatoes were bright red, I was so happy! Then I woke up XD Today I have been taking the tops of the plants off and some more lower leaves, hopefully they'll start turning soon!

Hopefully it will help your anxiety if I say - it's not crazy at all but quite normal. Everyone's growing areas are different and subject to a whole heap of different things. Some folk with have ripe stuff now and others won't but that's all ok and totally normal. Don't let your gardening stress you out, try to keep it as that wee bit of fun and relaxation in your life or it will absolutely become the worst chore ever :D To give you an example of how different we can all be... my tomatoes are almost passed now - whereas everyone else just seems to be starting to get a crop now :D

Hello, Eli. I have that exact shirt you’re wearing, but I can’t wear it until October, due to the furnace-blast of a summer we’re having😡. Tank tops only for a while longer, I guess. Ah, my pepper plants. I’m finally getting a lot of blooms that turn into nubs, then actual fruit. However, I have also gotten a lot of blossom end rot-and that’s with watering religiously. I’ve taken to using a liquid Calcium/Magnesium product called CalMag, and the blossom end rot has been eliminated on most of the fruit. The label says to use it at every watering, though, but I just double up and add it twice a week. We’ve gotten only one red ripe pepper, and the flesh was bitter. I’ve pruned very little foliage for fear of sun scald during our hot summer, so maybe that had something to do with the lack of sweetness. I don’t really know. But next year, I’m trying a different variety. Thanks for the Sunday-morning cheer, and tell Kate I said “Wassup”.

Wow! I’d die in a woolen Scottish tank top. Here in the U.S., a tank top is made from cotton, and also called a “wife beater”. So called because of abusive men in old movies who all seemed to wear these undershirts, I suppose. STELLAAA! Nowadays, tanks are not undershirts, of course, and in winter, I switch to a regular T-shirt. I have a few long sleeve shirts, but rarely wear them, except when we go to the snow in the mountains. P.s. today is going to reach 113 Fahrenheit. The second watering is going to be murder, with all the forest-fire smoke and heat.

@@eliandkate, I have not worn a vest since I was a boy and tried to look like a dandy in school, circa 1963. We simply have no sense of style here in laid-back California, and no traditional form of dress. I guess I’m stuck in the sixties, although I no longer wear bell bottom jeans with the lower legs slit on the sides and filled in with a different material. Lol. I still own a few plaid shirts with collars, though; but they just hang in my closet, along with my fringe jacket and WWl Doughboy tunic.
