Sorry I seemed to miss the white trees. I filmed a segment about them, but either missed or accidentally deleted it among the clips edited down into the final form :( As for the things I call "fans," many viewers prefer to see them as drums, which makes sense. LEGO does officially refer to them though as "paper windmills."

The good thing is, it’s not rlly a play set. Take the temple of the ultimate ultimate weapon for example. It’s a play set but the temple is flat so it has not great play value. At least this set knows what it is. This temple is a display piece so it doesn’t need to be super bulky

Interesting that while the rear is flat, they still included arches and those sand green windows (which I haven't seen before, though I see on BL they're not new). And what are those four bright orange(?) angle brackets with one stud for? ... maybe I should build it and see if it becomes apparent (bought it released, but don't have space for it yet) :-)

Economically speaking this set is on its top both because of the amount of Minifigures it has and the quality with which lego provides its products with most of the times, also its size is appropriate for collections who don't have much space, in other words, this is a very well designed set and appropriate for all likes. I really enjoyed the vid man keep up the good work and continue to inspire the creativity of sharing the world of Lego just like you have inspired me to also share and become part of this wonderful BRICK community!

the minifig with the banana t shirt under the blue jacket might be an inside joke. I'm Singaporean Chinese, and when we describe a Chinese person as a banana, it usually means that the person is very westernised and less fluent with Chinese culture (language, practices and traditions). hence, the term banana - yellow on the outside, white on the inside. kinda like myself! I find this reference humorous! hoping others can appreciate this funny insight too

Hi Jang, really appreciate you reviewing this set. Love the red background. I feel so amazed and lucky that Lego dedicates a particular line for the Chinese culture. Hope Lego can do something more like this, more representation of different cultures/traditions. Here are some translation, metaphors and background of what’s covered in this set. Just some personal opinions, might not be 100% accurate. Majority of the Chinese characters are shown in the form of couplets, which are two complementary poetic lines adhering to certain rules, often written on red paper carrying people’s wishes for the New Year. 2:55 -The facade -> Center lettering: 新春廟會 - New Year Temple Fair 4:49 - 1st Vendor Stand - The Toy Stand -> Left couplet: 竹報平安 - Parents’ receipt of a letter from their children living out of the hometown, indicating children’s wellbeing. -> Right couplet: 花開富貴 - Indication of one’s vision for a happy, wealthy and elegant life. -> Left shelf of the Toy Stand Chinese Paper pinwheels Metaphor: Turn one’s luck around To bestow good luck, longevity, health, and prosperity on its owner. -> Right shelf of the Toy Stand Stuffed animals and toy airplane -> The teal-colored unicorn box might just be a cross reference to the new Dots line. 6:35 - Couplet hanging down the stream of lights -> 大吉大利 - Wishing of good luck and advantages 6:49 - 2nd Vendor Stand - The Food Stand -> Two identical couplets in the middle: 福 | Wishing for wellbeing -> Left portion of the food stand Chicken legs and Steamed buns. Buns are shaped as a rabbit, hedgehog or pig. Cute dim sum appealing to kids -> Right portion of the food stand Tan round 1x1 tiles in the box: Chinese pastries Red studs on a stick: Tanghulu | Caramelized hawberries Metaphor of Tanghulu: Unification of the family (linking loose beads together) -> Center piece on the grill: Chinese kebab or barbecue Dark red stud: meat, mainly pork; Yellow stud: potatoes; Dark green stud: veggies, green bell peppers; 8:55 - 3rd Vendor Stand -> Left portion Nanofigs: Shadow puppets Used in a shadow play (center piece in the 4th vendor stand) Shadow play is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures (shadow puppets) which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. -> Right portion: Chinese ceramics 11:36 - 4th Vendor Stand -> Left portion: couplets for sale -> Right portion: fireworks -> Center piece: Shadow Play stage 13:37 - Lettering on the first minifig -> 燒烤:Chinese kebab Not sure if Jang covered the two terrains. But lettering on the red flag 7x3: -> 恭賀新禧:Happy New Year

Just thought you might like to know some fun facts: the kids and their parents are from the New Years Eve set from the previous year (Asia exclusive) and the teal unicorn piece was a ‘dots’ Easter Egg - a fun inclusion as it came out before dots was released. I think that they should use minifigures stands a lot more for smaller sets because I always see stands used in much larger sets like UCS. Also if you bought two of these sets instead of making it look cut off you could have two of them back to back to make a gateway for some kind of Chinese garden.

Thanks for this review! I was not planning on getting it and now I am, and I will continue to get some in this line. As someone with Monkie Kid sets and some of The LEGO Ninjago Movie big sets, this can fit in well if we use our imaginations! I love the Architecture. Lots of figures. Very well done!

I personally prefer the wooden background for the figures, but interchanging colors work too, preferably if not white. Great video Jang

I think it's nice that lego is teaching people about chinese culture using these sets. I learned more here than in our chinese unit in school.

This just shows that LEGO is capable to not use stickers. It is 2020 and they need to start using all prints, it will make the quality of their sets better and they can even charge a bit more for them.
