@@newolde1They would but then they would have to pay EPA fines for “not meeting the CAFE standard”. The fuel efficiency regulations have an absurd rating for trucks this size, no hybrid or PHEV can meet this rating and it’s beyond our technological and engineering capabilities. So it makes sense why they would make this an EV but yeah that unconstitutional government organization needs to go asap.

The best truck concept I've seen so far. Low to the ground, a low front end for pedestrian safety, decent range, all wheel drive, it can tow a decent weight, and it can fit nicely in my small garage. Can't wait until it's available. Love it!

I agree. $50k is going to be a really hard sell IMO. Their big selling point is that it fits in the footprint of a mini Cooper. Well a Mini is $25k. He mentions only needing 5,000 units to break even--I assume that is annually? I guess if they only intend to sell 20,000 - 25,000 per year there might be enough people interested enough in the novelty to have 2 or 3 years of demand which would give them time to--hopefully--scale up production.

I was so excited to see the Canoo pickup and TELO's design is even better but I feel their artificial size constraint of a Mini coupled with a whopping $50,000 price point will not serve them well. At least with a big truck, you (and everyone else) can see where your money is going. An extra 2 in. of knee and legroom would greatly improve comfort, and an extra 6" on the bed to make it the new industry standard of 5.5' would improve perception. Additionally, not having a visible, replaceable 5 mph bumper makes this thing look extremely weird, especially from the side. I think the Ford Maverick hybrid is genius and that size is perfect but Ford isn't making nearly enough of them and dealers aren't selling them for low $20Ks which is the real affordable price point we wanted. Too small and most really don't want it.

Love this idea of a smaller utility truck. Only issue is the price is too high, but can understand they'd go for the big performance and higher price for the first 500 vehicles. The real mass production sweet spot would be under $35k, and that'd be achieved with a smaller battery and half the power.. 500hp for this small ute is ludicrous 😝.. I think they're really aiming for the upscale outdoor adventure sports market and not the inner city utility work vehicle which wouldn't require this high performance or longer range.

I'd rather have a single cab with ~6ft bed. Basically the current single cab Tacoma. But this is a good step in the right direction. I do wonder how they're getting the current energy density. I hope it's not NMC based pouch cells. Cylindrical cells do have a bit higher intrinsic safety factor as each cell is metal armored. It can at least have a chance to reduce the time of major runaway. Now if this trucklet had LFP pouch cells, that would be fine, and even preferred over anything else IMO. Now that LFP patents have passed, prices have dropped like crazy. 50K is still really expensive for something like this. I know it's a new startup and they don't have economies of scale, but reducing that price I think is crucial. I don't know if getting lower HP motors/inverters and a bit lower capacity battery will reduce the price significantly, but I would try something. 500HP is cool, but totally unnecessary for this. Something like a ~200HP chevy bolt motor for the primary drive, and another ~100HP induction motor for the secondary would be fine for this. A truck this sized will never be used to tow anything more than a couple thousand pounds.

I'd be more interested in a 6.5'-8' box without mid-gate. Where I live(North Dakota-ish), it gets to -40°F, and stays around 0 to -22°F for 5 months of the year. The last thing that I want to do is open a mid-gate to gain storage in the cold. Further, losing the rear seats for my squad in order to fit hockey sticks or plywood in the back is not ideal. I see their cute little snow shot, but how's the heater and battery thermal management system gonna handle actual cold temps? I love this idea, and I like the performance figures and efficiency, but I see a few things that will make this truck hard to consider for folks in colder climates.

With the correct BMS setup there is little reason having modular packs that can be added or replaced over term wouldn't work. Personally I'd buy a 50kWh with two open battery spots, giving me better weight capacity for around town work, and then buy 1-2 more packs down the line if needed. Heck, I'd even keep them at home on a maintenance charger, and only slot them in when going on trips. Some people would say it's too heavy to add/remove packs, but I do the same with a small lift for my roof top tent.

This could be an attractive truck package for many present and future worksites and family transport needs. $50,000? Okay, does that include all configurations from back cover mode (with seats) to open back space beach mode? That could be a sweet offer. Thanks for bringing the TELO Truck and company into the light. I will definitely be sharing this with friends and watching for more news and videos in the future. Peace, health, and cheers!

Your chalk line around your prototype reminded me of Colin Chapman. When he designed the Austin Mini, he used chalk to make an outline of the overall size he wanted the Mini to be. It meant, that the wheels had to be at the far corners of the car in order to have enough room for the passengers.

Love the concept and really love the transparency of the founders! The snub-nose design will be an acquired taste for me, but if it allows it to fit in my garage, I can get on board.

Wow,,,,totally blown away by these guys; finally we have a company that is trying to build a truly functional electric pickup truck while maximizing efficiency which is all important in electric vehicles. If this goes to production, I will definitely be interested in buying one of these!!!!!

That’s pretty cool! I actually own and drive daily one of those kei trucks (technically it’s a kei van), a smaller footprint truck with modern safety would be a dream come true.

I wonder if they could take advantage of exhausting the high pressure of the front wheels to keep the battery cooler.

Yes! More small truck EVs! Majority of conversations I have with people who still aren’t convinced to transition to an EV yet, usually say something along the lines of “until they make a small Ford Ranger size pick up EV, I’ll have to wait”. Also, cut that battery in half @53kWh. You don’t need more than 200miles in an EV in 2023- chargers are every 20-50miles. 106kWh is way too much battery. The new benchmark should be to never have more than 70 kWh for an EV battery, if you want more range, get a more efficient (smaller/different shape) car that can go twice as far with the same energy.

This is a very nice evolution of a vehicle type that’s common here in The Philippines, called a mini cab, or, in some areas it’s called an Elf. These are available as small trucks and small vans., what I see in this video is a really amazing take on that form factor. Sign me up!

Ohh boy. That's what I need here in Michigan. Mostly driving back and forth to work. (Mostly top side 30 miles each way and in that same day dropping off my daughters to school about 25 miles one way. Great for landfill runs, Home Depot, Menard runs. Been eyeing the Ford Maverick hybrid hard. But I work for Stellantis waiting to see if a small pick up will be added to the US. So until then I will be driving my Rusty 2006 Grand caravan almost hitting 300.000 Miles. Good luck on the BEV Telo PU.

small is really good, for 4x4 offroad like the Suzuki Samarai , and Ford Bronco, it is hot in demand for off road. I'm replacing my CRZ hybrid with the Aptera and I need to replace my Toyota Sequoia v8 that tows 7,000, lbs 4x4, and holds up to 8 people, for tours I do . Does this tow 7,000, and 4x4 ? This could be it if it is lifted and has pv charging. ... ?

Okay, now that is the range, size, and performance specs and features that I like and can afford. I don't want to have to plan where I can fit to park, and I def do not need 0-60 in 2 seconds, its hard to keep lumber in place when Chewie hits the lightspeed lever.
