Yeah, its not so much that they are unwanted shades, sometimes we dont have the money to buy every shade we like or want at one time. With how often Holo Taco launches new collections, it gets really overwhelming. These are not cheap polishes, and sometimes we gotta prioritize what we can afford.

Yep, agreed. Paid attention to the first few collections, and couldn’t keep up after that. I only have a limited number of nails to paint at any given time. 😅

I would love to see them bring back the ripening banana bundle, which had various shades of green, yellow and brown. It was so beautiful and I couldn’t pick it up at the time and now it’s gone and I didn’t realize how much people hated green and yellow lol 😂

Based on my own opinions as a member of holo royaltea (I am incredibly biased). It's not that we don't like green. It's the super bright, vibrant greens that lean more on the yellow side that people don't like. Both modest moss and lost in the woods have made it into the top 10. The thing that's different about these greens is that they're more muted/darker and lean more to the cooler side. They're simplistic, regal, subtle, and really nice accents. While things like full charge and here for the payday are very warm and loud. Those weird yellowy greens don't give that same cozy, regal nature feel. I'm saying this as someone who loves green, but doesn't really buy a lot of the holo taco green shades. (Modest Moss is my baby now though) I think the yellows also have a similair problem but going the other way. They're too green. I normally don't wear yellow too often because it's too similair to my skintone, but when I do it's usually a rich, warm almost goldy yellow. Things like lemon sucker, and especially lemon spritzer, just don't give that same feel. There's also a balance though because butterscotch hop, although "yellow" in nature, leans more on the orange side. So it's in this strange middle zone of not quite yellow, but not quite orange either, and that kinda turns me away from using it too often. I still have a lot more to say, but that's my rant for now. Amazing video as always Cristine! This is probably my favorite series of yours! Thank you so much for going through all this data with us and then condensing it down into a more consumable form. Yep, even though I have neutral undertones, my fingers get enough bloodflow that they look pink. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Yellow toned polishes don't look as good and yellow is most people's least favourite primary colour anyways.

I think the problem is that sonic unicorn skin has bad pictures on the website. It looks like an obnoxious blue glitter but when its put on a purple polish it looks gorgeous and toned down

I will just add that I find sonic the only uniskin that I avoid putting over white, specifically because the yellow looks too much to my eyes like… P in sno 😭. I don’t mind it as much over other lighter colors I think cuz base color isn’t snow-like 😅

i am a gen z here to defend the cracked taco, i wore it in like 3rd grade despite my school not allowing nail polish. it was a staple in my small polish collection and i had it in multiple colors so i completely understand it being in the top

Not surprised by the bottom 10. Yellows, oranges, and neon greens don't look good on every skin tone. I love the look of a lot of these polishes, but on me, they bring out my yellow undertones and make me look jaundiced.

I would love to see a Valentine’s Day collection that has a mixture of pinks and reds, but also moody colors, maybe black and a sparkle and a deep berry, or a gray purple

And this is why most of your drugstore polishes stay away from greens, yellows, and oranges - they’re notoriously poor sellers despite being absolutely stunning.

I own 9 of the 10 worst sellers and almost never wear them. Literally the only times I've used the yellows are in nail art, in large part because they lean green and chartreuse looks HORRIFIC against my skin tone. I welcome the warmer yellows.

The hatred for greens breaks my heart. I'm super shocked about Encryption Key. I saw that peachy/orange color everywhere in the spring and summer. Solar Unicorn Skin was also a big surprise on the worst sellers list. I think the hype for Freezer Burn overshadowed how awesome Solar is. So glad to not see any frosted metals at the bottom. That is my favorite formula.

The thing about the banana bundle specifically is that I already had all those shades. I feel like dedicated buyers who stalk the website will have already picked up them from other bundles or alone, so it's not necessary to buy another bundle that has nothing new. As stated many times by other people, it is a financial investment (as silly as that sounds) and if you buy semi-expensive polish that often, you aren't going to be running out of these polishes any time soon. As for cracked taco shell THAT POLISH IS SO COOL! It looks so good over holos!! Amazing, easy nail art and I don't get the slander. One of my favorite things to do is to put choco-holo or another gold heavy polish under the crack topper. It reminds me a lot of Kintsugi (a traditional repair method that takes the broken parts of pottery or dishes and glues them back together and paints the seams with gold).

I’ve just gotten into these nail polishes in the last few months, and I was unaware how terribly yellows and greens do, and I really wanted to save up to get the ripening of the banana. I’m very sad because she is gone and she will never be back. 😅

My favourite colour is green, but most bright greens/yellows genuinely make me look like I'm ill (which I am, but I don't want to look it!). HT is also a more expensive product, especially as an Australian so while I can appreciate the colours, I can't justify the expense for a colour that would look gross on me

On sonic unicorn skin: I love the blues, as well as the iridescent pigments, but I am much more likely to wear lighter shades, and it’s the physics of how all the iridescent polishes look like their complementary color over those light shades that really keeps me from reaching for freezer burn or Sonic unicorn skin as often as I thought I would. I am very guilty of just not wanting that yellow cast to my nails.

Fake date (together with mint money and got cake) are my all time favourite. The frosted metals are just so flipping stunning irl. I never get as many compliments as when i wear them. I've even gotten compliments from a 15 year old boy when I wore fake date and mint money together. I'm so sad that i panic-bought fake date 😥

It makes me so sad to see the greens are so low, green is my favorite color and there's so many pretty ones in the bottom 😢 I learned today in a short that green and yellow are the least popular colors across a variety of cosmetics 😢

Love how I saw the post about the worst selling polishes on Instagram and immediately bought Green Taffy to wear for seeing Wicked in a few months 😂

bat b*tch is a black that cleans up super easily, unlike one coat black. I ordered a second bottle. (I still keep ocb on hand all the time, but bb is just easier to deal with, cleanup wise.)

Some of those low colours are really lovely - Green Taffy and Orange Drink in particular - but I basically only ever wear greens and oranges as part of nail art so one bottle lasts a loooooooooooong time.

The greens are the wrong kinds of green! I want a deep emerald green for a green, a shade ive had hard time finding. Or a darker sea green. Moody teal. Green-black. Not hilighter green or safety green. Maybe apple can have a spot. A pastel green could be nice too but if its too yellow it looks gross. Also my thinking for yellows is that for me, id rather reach for a gold instead. I personally dont have anything to enjoy matching yellow with either. I dont own yellow clothes, with my skintone it makes me look ill, but i can use gold to get a bright warm feeling instead. Also sometimes you get a cool gold thats more nicely paired with darker colors as an accent

You know what I would really like? Smaller bottles. If for all the shades and toppers there could be the choice between the standard 12 ml bottle and a mini version with maybe 6 ml, that would be great for people like me who do not paint their nails that often and/or don't have so much space to store polishes in. 😂 Also it would be useful for those who are not sure if they like a certain shade but would like to try it. And for me who doesn't use so much it would be easier to use it up before it becomes so sticky that even nail polish thinner cannot save it any more. 😅 I think that many people would find the small bottle option useful and probably it could boost your sales 😊 also for the lesser bought shades (in order not to use the very subjective word "ugly"), some people would perhaps buy a small one to sample them. Also, you could do a give-away of a small sample bottle of the buyers choice (or of a shade you want to promote) for orders worth a certain amount (get the frosted metals out there!) 😎

I think it’s not that people don’t like greens but that people prefer mid to darker toned cool greens like modest most over the lighter yellow toned greens like here for the payday. I think you’d find emerald, sage and mossy greens. Yellows have a similar issue, where they lean green rather than warmer toned yellows that are more in.

I didn't buy an extra spirit fingers with the bundle, and I regret it. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I do, it seemed a little light for me. I have a limited shade range and it's very dark, I'm sorry simply the greens/yellows are too bright except for modest moss 😭

I'm very biased because I love Lemon Spritzer and yellow polishes in general and obviously do not have all the data, BUT. If I were HT I wouldn't be discontinuing any of the linear holos in the triple rainbow core range, even if they're not doing that well. HT largely markets to a demographic that isn't that interested in boutique/indie polishes at large, but the ONE formula I feel like you actually see people who shop indie and boutique polish often talk about is the linear holo, because it's THAT good. With bonus points for having a mostly accessible core range. Even if some of those colours in that range don't sell as well as others, having that range is what's valuable, more than any specific colours. ETA: Also feels reflected in the fact that the two linears getting retired are both already sold out.

As a huge Cristine/Holo Taco fan, I love seeing more sophisticated colors coming out. I love the fun, vibrant colors, but I think that we've gotten a lot of primary and secondary colors from HT over the years. I for one was just doing my nails last night and did the Twice in a blue moon magnetic polish. It's beautiful, but I realized how many straight blue polishes i have from HT at this point. I want more vampy or neutral colors as opposed to more of what I think of as candy-color shades. Also, I just think that I will never want a yellow green, limey colored polish. It just looks so weird against my skin.

Holo Royaltea member data point: I bought Disco Dust and Oat Couture individually, so that's only 2 in the top 10. Looking at Simply's version, I bought 4/10 (with Royal Crush and Spirit Fingers). In the bottom 10, I have all of the linear holos and redeemed points for Encryption Key at some point, though none of that happened in 2023. Linear holos in vibrant colors are my jam! I don't tend to use toppers much because I mostly do nail art (which is the only reason I ever bother with cremes). I'm so devastated by the loss of Full Charge and Lemon Spritzer. :( Y'all better save Lemon Sucker, Orange Drink, and Green Taffy because I am emotionally attached to the linear rainbows. Maybe they can become seasonal polishes that get resurrected for Pride in the summer? And Fake Date was lovely but mine has definitely shifted to be more like Cheap Champagne over time and that sucks. Hoping we get a better pinky frosted metal soon!

I love greens, so happy one made it to the top 10! I have to say the top 10 list all are good choices. I am still sad Full Charge was in the worst selling 10, she's such a beautiful green & a rather strong holo! It sold out before I could get another bottle, so I'm kind of rationing it even though I love it. If I had unlimited funds, I'd have so many more Holo Taco shades & less space on my desk for all of them. LOL!

I know you have to keep the greens to have a wide range of colours but 🤢 Edit to add the yellow halos come across as green too. I’ve long been stalking Holo Taco and finally make enough money to be able to justify the purchase. I absolutely adore yellow polishes and I’m so devastated I can’t get the pastel rainbow set with Lemon Spritzer, I would genuinely do ANYTHING to get that colour back. I know these colours aren’t for everyone but that’s the exact reason it can be so hard to find good shades. Yellows and oranges are so summery and bright and fun and I’m lucky they go well with my skin tone. Bring back my yellows!!! Full Charge and Encryption Key are also so gorgeous and I mourn them every day

I bought the Banana collection you created to get rid of these "ugly" shades. This makes the best skittles mani. Burnt Bridges is a staple. That collection also contained the yellow and green holo staples for the perfect holo rainbow skittles mani. Lemon Spritzer is soooo beautiful.

I love a good kelly green - I've purchased green taffy twice XD I also purchased Encryption Key Typically I avoid yellow/warm-toned shades though. I'm too pink for them and they're not flattering. Give me more blue-toned greens!!

Yes to crushed holo - love that formula - oat contour and one of the darker ones. Also like spirit fingers (part of my first ever nail polish collection) , bat bitch. That entire collection was so beautiful. I don’t care what season it is! Also picked up one coat black. Maybe fallen leaf taco next sept/October.

I literally have lemon spritzer on right now, I love that shade. And I *hate* yellow lol. It reads gold and fairytale to me more than yellow

I'm a royaltea member and I totally understand the convenience of the bundles because it's easier for people to get them all at once but maybe since a lot of the shades are part of bundles, that's causing the sales to be low? I personally love all of the shades that were worst performers but when they're a part of a bundle, people don't buy them individually. I think the bundles should go away unless it's the create your own bundle since that's not an actual launch product. All of those shades are gorgeous but you keep them as a bundle after the box sells out, it'll eventually put a dip in the individual sales of products.

I'm sure the company takes into account bundle sales too when they decide on success of shades. This stream just focused on individuals. Like I own most of the bottom colors, and would never buy them individually, but I'm glad they were in a bundle because they look good when I wear them together.

I love that aquafoil but I'm currently a stay at home mom and don't do my nails at all. I got a pedicure for the first time in years yesterday. That Queen's Curse is beyond gorgeous as well.

Burnt bridges is my favorite polish youve ever made. If i had the mony id order a few more but i only paint my nails once every few weeks so one bottle lasts me like a year.

The one purchase I’ve made was majority “bottom” shades. Amber Apathy and Burnt Bridges are my favourites!

I promise if you make a deep emerald green like the shade of that hoodie you wear in streams so often I promise you that baby will sell sell sell. A deep evergreen like crème will be a top 10 I swear.

Yeah, Dollar Tree/General and other discount stores like TjMaxx are a lifesaver. Even the grocery stores in my city have discounted nail polishes sometimes.

With the exception of Green Taffy (which I think is underwhelming just because the color + holo finish just looks...dull? idk), I think people just don't like that specific chartreuse shade of green. I love green weird polishes, but these colors just don't go well with a lot of people's skin tones and they're very... puke-y. You also gotta keep in mind that polishes are expensive! Like if you're going to drop $13 on a single color, you're probably not going to spend that money on something you'd only want to wear once in a blue moon. IMO, I'd be a lot more willing to try these shades if there was like a mini version-- something that's half the price, and where I'm not stuck with an entire full-sized of polish if I don't like it

Well, glad I got Queen's Curse when I did. Surprising since it's a purple shade and those do well typically, but I understand there's probably other logistics motivating the decision to retire it. As someone who owns Fake Date, one thing that I realized upon receiving it and based on the photography of other people posting reviews for it, it seems like certain batches weren't always consistent with the color as it was advertised both on the website & the original launch video. In promotional imagery it seems to be a more cool-toned purple-y pink, but the Fake Date I and several other people received for whatever reason is more of an orange-y tone rose gold. Still pretty, but not really what I thought I was purchasing. I'm curious as to whether that's in part a reason of it getting retired now. 🤔 Gonna be keeping my eyes on Green Taffy like a hawk now tho, since it seems precariously close to getting the axe by the end of this year. I have it on my wishlist and it would kinda blow to not be able to purchase it before then. Maybe Blue Freezie too since it had to be rescued from being on the lowest sales list ..

Bummed that I missed the chance to get full charge :( Please bring it back!
