@@HochgeborenKlown no woman could EVER hit a home run off of degrom or any other big pitcher and the only problem men would have hitting off of women pitchers is how they throw it, but as soon as they would figure that out it would be over. don't even bother replying

Comparing wins for pitchers in baseball and softball is a bit difficult since throwing a softball (underhand) is a natural motion for the body while throwing a baseball (overhand) is unnatural and more taxing on the arm. That's why college softball pitchers routinely can throw the majority of their teams games even back to back to back while in baseball this is almost impossible.

The Main problem when people compare baseball and fastpitch softball, is they tend to compare men and women to each other instead of the actual sports.

Yeah that isn't news worthy... No one is gonna watch deGrom or Ohtani or even Luke Jackson strike out the best hitter in softball for charity. But they'll watch a girl/woman pitch to a HR champ... either way it'll be fun to watch.

I would very much like to see a 5'7 woman pitch in the big league.

They would be batting practice if not slower. For a women To throw a fastball even 80mph they would have to be freakishly athletic,super strong, and massive.

@@seeyouintea6874 But you don't have to throw hard to be an effective pitcher. Junk pitches like knuckleballs can work. Fox did a television series "Pitch" a few years back that imagined a woman pitcher for the Padres.

@@kiroolioneaver8532 to make a off speds be remotely effective you have to have the arm speed of someone who throws 88+. As a 63mph curveball isn’t doing much past high school JV baseball. That’s why speed is more than just the fastball velocity. But I agree speds isn’t the do all tell all.

Comparing baseball to softball is like comparing badminton to tennis or the WNBA to the NBA. They have the same idea except they are very different

we in india mens plays both soft ball and baseball , i played both and also our team won and got gold medal in soft ball tournament. Softball is quick game if we compare with baseball because when a batsmen hit the ball and when it travels to any base then a base player needs to collect quickly and decide where to throw unlikely in baseball where it has more time even if we miss then also there are high chances of out. so in nutshell softball needs quick and active mind and with no errors at the base fielding #mlb #softball #baseball

All i got to say is growing up playing little league i still played with many girls on my teams. I feel as though they start out playing baseball to get the basics but then when it starts to become more competitive and actually want to make a career out of it is when the switch to softball naturally occurs. Nothing bad about that at all!! Beautiful sports in their own rights!!!

I love how quick questions go over the history of baseball and sports alike.

I would love to watch women play baseball more. I enjoyed watching the Japanese team at Tokyo 2020 in the softball, but it would be great to see those players playing baseball to see how they do. Baseball just appeals to me more aesthetically and with the bigger distances, it would be interesting to see how pitching, baserunning and defence would work.

As a father of a daughter there two different sports there the same but different know what I mean

So im confused if the ball was originally soft, it totally makes sense to call it "softball". But why on earth did they change the ball from "soft" to "hard". Doesnt that change the game/rules??? Another thing to consider is that many of the best hitters also strike out a lot. Reggie Jackson is the all-time strikeout king, while Jim Thome, Alex Rodriguez, and Jose Canseco all made the top 10. It’s not necessarily due to long careers or up and down seasons either. In 1982 Jackson led the league in both homers and strikeouts. In 2003 Thome did the same. In 1998 Sosa was the RBI and strikeout champ. These guys go big. Sometimes it pays off, other times it doesn’t.

Are you dense. They were not throwing shade at Cy young that would be stupid. It was clearly just to show how some professional softball players have revolutionized their own sport, in that example by pitching an unheard of amount of games in a season. You can say it's because it's less demanding to pitch in softball but their point that it defied what most previously was possible still stands.

To me, baseball is a FAMILY sport. That's why as much as I cheer for our MLB players, I will cheer for the mothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, and nieces of the world. The more people play the sport, the more interesting the world becomes at least in my opinion. Good video, MLB!

This video explains why there is a gender split in the US. But what about the rest of the world and the Olympics? Is it a similar story in East Asia and Latin America?

Neither baseball nor softball are truly Global Sports, they're only played in a handful of countries. It's a shame. I wish it could be like soccer or at least like basketball one day. Two Global Sports played and watched by people everywhere. Will that day ever come? I hope so

That's true for most sports, but baseball is somewhat different, considering pretty fat men can compete at the pro-level.

two things: saying that the softball pitch is faster because the mound is closer is basically just compensating for the less hard throwers, and also thats like making the rim higher in wnba and saying its a harder sport. 2nd: most of the softball on baseball stuff was staged and jennie finch didnt strike out barry bond. he bunted a bunch of pitches and then stopped hitting.

@@casschu1718 am mlb player would absolutely obliterate a 75 mph ball. Especially since the pitches are almost always either super straight or a lob. I don’t think the best softball player on earth could hit a 102 mph baseball unless they actually practice baseball.

@@anderson74 75 mph ball from 43 feet is equivalent to 106 mph from 60 ft. Give both players time to adjust to release they can both hit it. I’m literally sick and tired of men trying to trash women’s sports JUST because we’re female.

@@casschu1718 it isn't because you are women, it is cause females have way more physical limitations cause of evolution, i am sure if you guys didn't evolve to become "weaker" you could probably compete with the top male athletes, but because of the physical limitations, women's sports are just a watered down version of men's sports in my opinion.

@Clay Walt both sports require different skills even tho they’re sister sports. Just cuz you have experience in one sport doesn’t mean it’s “harder” than the other. Both sports are difficult and I reaaaallly don’t like /grown/ men trying to dictate if a women’s sport is easy. That’s what it comes down to buddy. Idk if you’ve seen high level 14u travel softball but I can guarantee it’s much faster than many think.

And most of the time it’s not just 1 game a day. It’s at the VERY LEAST 2, especially in college. So we play 14 innings minimum. Both games have their difficulties and I don’t like men trying to delegitimize a sport because women play it.

And I really don’t believe Williams believes what he said about that female pitcher being the best he has ever faced. And I’m not being sexist of anybody thinks otherwise. Men's Fastpitch Softball is in competition with Advertising Revenue, Video Games, Merchandise, ect.... Heros get remembered. Legends can't hit a rise ball to save their lives.. Adam Folkard and Ramon Jones would roll through the entire MLB, multiple times, without a doubt, before any ball was touched. Baseball creates television watchers. Lobball isn't Fastpitch.
