    Why are Sikhs at speakers corner? The answer is simply to spread awareness. Unlike many other faiths, our aim is not to convert but to rather educate. Another reason Sikhs are at spears corner is to show that Sikhi can stand on its own theological feet and withstand criticisms. The reason Jagraj Singh goes out and debates people is becuase he wants to show the world that the Sikh spirit is still alive and that Sikhs are not afraid to stand out out and have their beliefs put in the spotlight. Going to speakers corner is very important becuase it engages us and forces us to critically think and question how much we know about our own faith, it motivates us to continue to learn about Sikhi and become better Sikhs. We as Sikhs have been blessed with the most simple and direct path to God. Our faith is independent, strong, and beautiful that it would be a shame not to share it with the world!

    By listenning to someone ,You can only learn NOTHING. By doing it by yourself ,You can learn that. meditate "WaheGuru" or "Allah" or anyway you like it. there are millions of ways out there. meditate like You're missing someone from billions years. and it will take less than 1 second to listen to God's voice only if you're true from inside .

    I just have one question, it's not something directly related to this video, I'm sorry but I've been trying to get the answer to this question for quite some time now. the question is that why do we as Sikhs say that we've had 10 gurus and guru granth sahib Ji is our 11th? I mean, Sikhism as we know it today came into existence only when guru Gobind Singh Ji asked people to dress in a particular way, do certain things, look in a particular way ie unshorn hair and turban, kada, etc etc whereas all the other gurus that existed before him didn't believe in any religion or maybe they did, I don't know but I know one thing for sure that Guru Nanak Dev Ji once said "na koi Hindu, na musalman" which means he didn't have any religion. so why do we consider him and other 9 gurus as OUR gurus. they were not only Sikhs' gurus coz they didn't follow any particular religion. I'm sorry I might have said something wrong but I'm open to all suggestions and theories. waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

    Sikhs do not have 10 Gurus, we only have one: Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which contains the knowledge and light of all the Sikh Gurus and God. We do not differentiate between Gurus, to us they were all the same light but in different bodies. The Gurus never contradicted each others teachings, they simply built upon the previous teachings. The Sikhs are not told to look at Sikhi is a "religion" but as something more: a way of life, a code of conduct, and a way to learn and evolve. Guru Gobind Singh Ji once said that he doesn't value religious labels, he values Rehat (discipline). When we are all inevitably judged by God he doesn't care about what religion we identify ourselves as but rather our actions.

    sikhi started from guru nanak,, all the 9 gurus were forms of guru nanak... the same light of guru nanak went to all 9 other gurus. u can say bodies were different but light was same. the whole msg of sikhi couldn't be given in one form that's why guru nanak dev ji had to go through 9 other forms. for eg- in first 5 forms they only taught us to be become like sant and then from 6th form they taught us to become sipahi along with being sant... because before becoming sipahi we have to become sant.

    RajaSinghBedi The Gurus were changing the people gradually. What you quote about nobody being Hindu or Muslim is in fact Guru Ji telling us regardless of what labels we wear, as humans we are all equal in God's eyes regardless of religion etc. This is not to say the Gurus didn't preach something different. What they taught their followers was neither the Hindu way or the Islamic way (but there are always similarities with others on aspects). Guru Nanak Dev Ji calls it the Nirmal Panth. It's not feasible to change the mindset of a downtrodden people overnight, this was done gradually over 250 by the 10 Gurus. Firstly teaching them that they are no less than the high castes and even they can attain God via meditation. These teachings spread and they were taught about earning an honest living and with a worldly and spiritual life balance fulfilling the main purpose of life. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had taught martial arts to Baba Buddha Ji with the instruction to teach it back to Him in His 6th form. When the 5th Guru was Martyred at the hands of the extremists then the 6th Guru declared that He would not only be a spiritual leader but a worldly leader too. He adorned clothes of a warrior king rather than a saint. From the 6th Guru all the Gurus kept an army even though none of them had to fight (except 6th and 10th Guru). 6th Guru even built a mosque for poor Muslims in His area who had nowhere to pray. The 9th Guru chose to be Martyred along with a few disciples to save the Hindus from persecution without fighting. But when the moguls asked who else is a Sikh in the crowd most cowered away and could not be differentiated by appearance. Guru Gobind Singh Ji years later gave us the appearance where we stay distinct and cannot hide away. So if someone needs help they know they can go to a Sikh who will be ready and willing to help. All the Gurus passed the Guruship onto each other ie they named who Their successor would be. Guru Nanak Dev Ji passed the Guruship to Guru Angad Dev Ji and retired to His village for a couple of years I believe before leaving this world in physical form. As the Guruship was passed on all the way through, when it came to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj who gave us the Khalsa form, He passed the Guruship to the Eternal Guru: Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj (who is called 'the light/jyot of the 10 Gurus) and also to the Khalsa Panth (the Khalsa are the physical representation of the Gurus and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji the spiritual light). Hence for us yes all 10 Gurus and Sri Guru Granth Sahib JI are the same. The teaching never changes between them. If you search for '12 weeks 12 GURUS Basics of Sikhi' it goes through how the Guruship was passed between Them. if you do need more help I suggest you message Basics of SIKHI via YT or FB directly as you may not get a reply in comments and replies from others may contradict each other so best to speak to BoS as they are more learned

    Vir you're right, all the Guru Sahib's were the same, all one. Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj didn't need to tell Guru Angad Dev Ji 'we are the same', Guru Nanak Dev Ji is Guru Angad Dev Ji. He simply switched bodies. Every Guru Sahib is Satguru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj, and Maharaj is still here with us today in the form Satguru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj

    I cannot answer for BOS, i can only speculate on the basis of my own understanding after looking at their videos. 1. They are working on telling people about the Sikh faith and why we do -what we do. 2. Guru Nanak was following Sikhi of Akal Purkh (he had no physical gurus and he had neither islamic or hindu inclinations). He rejected both of the major faiths of that area because they were not "good enough". 3. Aad Granth was written and compiled by Guru Arjun dev ji and the 10th Guru added the bani of the 9th guru and transformed the Aad Granth into the now and forever eternal Guru - Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 4. So before 500 years ago, there were no followers of the guru in the sense that there are now. Sikhs now follow the guru.

    basics of sikhi can u answer one small question? where is there no female guru? all 10 are male?

  • @TheTurbanatore

    @TheTurbanatore

    7 жыл бұрын

    The human Gurus might have been biologically male but the energy they are made of has no gender. Furthermore our current Guru, Guru Granth Sahib Ji also has no gender, gender is a lie, the soul itself has no gender. The reason the Gurus were not born as women was becuase if they were no one would have listened to them. The climate in asia at the time and still to this day is sexist. If there were women Gurus society would not accept them. The reason the Gurus were male was becuase people values the opinion of men more and it took men to get things done. We as Sikhs dont need female Gurus to show that we have gender equality. The Guru Granth Sahib Ji speaks out against sexism and support equality fir men and women. Sikhi also does not discriminate between genders, and whatever men have to follow so must women. We also have many historical examples of Sikhs women such as Mai bhago, Mata gujri kaur, Mata Sundri, and many many more.

    +khushwant virdi Saying that "We don't know, only God knows" is a lazy answer and can be used for every question. As someone who is a practicing Sikh and had studied Sikh history and Gurbani I feel like i was able to properly answer the question that was asked. My answer is logical and has multiple points to back it up unlike the answer you gave which is only one point that could be recycled to suit any question.

    +The Turbanator yes I personally think most saints, prophets, yogis have been male because only the male's opinions were taken seriously back in the day and even now in rural areas.. and also if a woman or girl wanted to live a different life/ leave all materialistic things like buddha did, she couldve easily been beaten up or forced to marry and live that way.. also it might have been unsafe for woman to travel and preach without men like guru nanak did back in those days.. also guru's were also political leaders and were subjected to harsh treatment and torcher by mughals... I think these reasons mabye...

    No, the Gurus are not like Prophets, they are the fully perfect beings who have merged with god. Closer to how a Christian would see Jesus than a muslim would see Prophet Mohammed. Also once the Gurus had established Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, (our Scriptural Guru) and established the Guru Khalsa Panth (collective body of initiated sikhs) then they were ready to pass on the Guruship. The Gurus are still here...

    Trilla Singh What was imperfect about Jesus' teachings? Tell me if a man and his husband work and do an honest living are they then enlightened? What if a man and his wife work hard and in earnest then go swinging afterwards (all completely consenting to it) does that make them enlightened? What if a man works hard then decides to get drunk at home in front of TV after work does that make him enlightened, he also feeds the poor. You trump up what is easy to make your religion look good but this in Christianity is what is known as easy believism and while thats the case because Sikhism has no real backbone or spine to it, the world will always grown in agony because of its unholiness. If you don't believe me then where are your sikhs taking on these issues? Nowhere? But by the fruits you shall know them Matthew 7:16
