It's because it's not something that can be blamed on one person at this point. The people you see opening a booster box of cards are small fry compared to the shops and professional players who encourage this.

This really hits home. I'm a fan of pokemon, games and the cards, since my childhood. I've been trying to buy some new pokemon cards for my nephews birthday, can I get hold of some in the UK? The hell I can. Pokemon is for everyone, but come on, that much?! I can't afford the inflated prices online cause stores don't have them! My nephew has very politely asked for pokemon cards for his 6th birthday, and I can't get him any unopened packs! I've bought him a pokemon battle figurine instead, but I feel awful! I've even got some of my old ones from childhood and popped them into his birthday card, but I know it's not the same as opening them 😣 I really feel the sadness of them explaining how people are now being excluded, and I'm so mad and upset with myself that even as an adult with money, I can't get him any. This seems super dramatic and over the top, but he really loves pokemon and I know how he feels. He's also been going through a lot at the moment, as his parents are separated and his dad is a piece of shit who can't be arsed to see him. Ahhh, sorry for anyone reading this cause I'm just venting now, but I'm gonna keep trying to get him some and hopefully eventually I can find a legit source to buy some from. (Yes, some assholes are buying packs, opening them, re sealing them with no nice cards inside then selling them on to unsuspecting people/kids, still at a higher price. Such a dick move.)

It's not something that rich people have ruined as much as it is that the publishers and top players have ruined. Most TCGs nowadays have reached a point in which rarity equals power, which means that you end up with essentially packs of wasted cardboard and a lack of decent cards. The decent cards however, are the rarest, which is what makes it so expensive to put together a good deck. For example, in Yugioh, you can guarantee that most archetypes have a searcher that is going to be Ultra Rare and it's probably going to cost you around $15-20 each. If it's a Secret Rare, expect that price to jump up to $100 or more each. And guess what, you need 3 of each. It doesn't help that some cards are notoriously shortprinted. Magic the Gathering for example, got to a point where people could predict where the best cards were in a case of booster boxes. Yugioh also ended up short printing certain needed high rarity cards to something like 2 per case of booster boxes as well. Combine that with a lack of decent reprint sets and you end up with just skyrocketing costs that price out most people. Pokemon usually costs around $300 for a top tier deck. Yugioh and MTG have been pushing their prices as of late and it can be $700+ for a top tier deck. MTG can get even more costly depending on the format. All of this can be fixed with just a simple reprint, even if once a year.

@@rachaelg.1962 God yeah, the revamp was so unexpected and so badly done, but Mattel's badly attempt of getting a younger audience (since monster high was more popular with young adults and collectors) and the dive on quality due to loosing the d*sney contract really took part of the joy from it. Next year theres apparently a comeback from them planned, but I'm not holding onto anything, I'm really into collecting and customizing so I hope it has the same feel from before they took the joy away from it but again I'm.not really expecting anything since Barbie is their big earner and those dolls are either very low quality or super expensive, which resellers take advantage of.

First off, Keith walking in front of the green screen to mimic the avatar in Pokémon video games is absolutely hilarious. The editing in this video was phenomenal. Second, why are people mad he bought a master pack of Pokémon cards and opened them? The whole point of this video is him trying to find a chiazard card and he waited in line and bought a box just like every other person in the store. Plus when the video states the cards were donated to collectors, children are collectors too so you can’t assume you know who got them. Bottom line is I thought it was really great that Keith made a whole video about one of his interests and I enjoyed all the Pokémon references he put into this. I hope you don’t let all the negative comments get you down cause your videos are so much fun and I can’t wait to see more content from you!

Nowadays, it's best to just look online for the single card you want. Avoid buying the sealed packs if possible. Unless your card is being played in the top decks, you should be able to find them for a good price. If they are being played in the top decks, you should just wait until they get cycled out (takes about a year to a year and a half).

Keith, the production and quality of this video are AMAZING. I also honestly had no idea that the pandemic had affected the pokemon trading card scene so much. I almost cried when you pulled Charizard because I visualized the little baby Keith inside you going nuts over it. It would be interesting if one of the try guys did one of these videos but for the houseplant community because shit is wild out here for us. From newbies buying out all the "desirable" and "rare" houseplants before anyone else can get ahold of them, to "scalpers" buying them out and selling them for massive profits, to the damn growers themselves going the diamond business model route by holding on to their stock and only selling a select amount (particularly monstera Thai constellation) every year to keep demand high and make it seem as if they're way more rare than they actually are...it's insane!
