    Claire, I've been searching so much information (particularly yours, thank you), to figure out what my fig needs. I bought it a few months ago, from someone whom I'm pretty sure knew it was having issues and wanted to sell it before it got worse. They had it in a huge pot (HUGE), with no drainage holes, tons of rocks at the bottom, and it was full of water. I repotted it in a smaller pot, with some holes. But I potted it back into their soil (the driest bits). This soil was gorgeous but held so much water. Over the next month or so, it never dried out. So, I didn't water it. It only lost one leaf the first week I got it home. No leaf drop after that. But, I did notice yellow spots with brown centers starting to form. It's happening very slowly because I have been letting it dry out. But, they are still progressing. It started with one leaf, and now it's three. I repotted it again last week in your soil for figs, this time removing all of the original soil and checking the roots. Saw not rotting roots, and there is no smell. Repotted in a nice snug ceramic pot with huge drainage holes and watered with 1 tsp of your root supplement. But, I still see the yellowing and brown centers enlarging (however slowly). I'm wondering if I should inspect the roots more closely? Is it possible for there to be root rot without mushy, smelly roots? And should I remove these yellowing/browning leaves? I may cut the roots back a bit and spritz with hydrogen peroxide and pot in fresh soil again. But I was wondering if you had any insight. Thanks!

    Hi Toni, You should consider joining our Facebook group and posting some photos of the issue there. We have a very active community of Fiddle Leaf Fig enthusiasts in the group who are happy to help one another and share their advice and experiences. facebook.com/groups/FiddleLeafFigPlantResource As for searching for root rot, make sure the check the inner parts of the root ball, not just the outside of it. If there are no mushy, smelly roots, then most likely the issue isn't root rot. And yes, you should prune damaged leaves, but make sure that you also diagnose and treat the issue alongside the pruning. fiddleleaffigplant.com/how-to-fix-yellow-fiddle-leaf-fig-leaves/

    @@FiddleLeafFigPlant Thanks for your reply! I left my comment about it a week ago, so unfortunately I've already taken action on it before receiving your message. And have already pruned the leaves in question, so I can't upload them to the group. My question was if a fungal infection could precede root rot. Since, there was no root rot present. But definite signs of brown spots within yellow halos. I've removed the ;eaves, completely cleaned every bit of soil off of the roots, sprayed them with hydrogen peroxide solution, left the root ball exposed to air overnight, then replanted in fresh soil (all purpose, cactus mix, perlite, and worm castings). Watered through. When I woke in the morning, it was in quite a bit of shock. Very droopy. A few leaves yellowing, but in a different way (mostly the veins, whereas the previous yellowing happened in the green areas between the veins), but no leaf drop. I'm just going to leave it be and see what happens at this point. Thanks!

    Hi Nikolay, you're very welcome! Repot your plant and water normally with a well-balanced fertilizer for a fiddle leaf fig, such as our FLF plant food: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BG98GQD/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=indigomarke0c-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07BG98GQD&linkId=7a6db7868a528ccf18e76c4ca892530b If repotting isn’t possible, you can use alkaline water drops to make a batch of alkaline water and thoroughly water your plant. www.amazon.com/ALKAZONE-Alkaline-Gallon-Booster-Single/dp/B0732XG79Z/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=houseplant+acid+alkaline&qid=1592734523&sr=8-10 Once you have repotted your plant, continue to monitor its health and check to ensure the leaves are growing properly. Yes, it is ok to use them together. I would use the root rot treatment until it looks like the root rot is going away and the plant has healed.

    Are they truly yellow or perhaps more of a brown/tan-ish color? Check out our photo identification guide to brown spots to make sure it does not match any of the conditions there: fiddleleaffigplant.com/guide-to-fiddle-leaf-fig-brown-spots/ fiddleleaffigplant.com/fiddle-leaf-fig-spots-photo-troubleshooting-guide/ If the spots really are yellow, than yes it is the same as yellowing. Yellowing is caused by too much water, not enough light, or a lack of nutrients. But, if you see yellowing just around the edges of your leaves, that can be an indicator that your soil is too acidic.

    This has me wondering if mine is lacking fertilizer. I have two bottom leaves turning light green then yellow very, very slowly from the inside out but they aren’t dropping off either. I only water every two weeks since it’s winter and it’s in front of a huge window, so it’s not water.

  • @FiddleLeafFigPlant

    That might be it! Or, is the soil older than 1-2 years and there are more roots than soil in the pot? That can also cause the nutrient deficiency signs. A 3-1-2 NPK ratio fertilizer would be helpful!

    Trying to keep my Bambino alive. It came from the grower with root rot. I took at the steps to cure it and used the recommended potting soil etc. This week the smaller underneath leaves are turning yellow. I'm using a water meter and watering on 3 or 4....not dry but getting there. What else could be wrong? I'm trying so hard.

    Hi Cathy, is it getting enough light? These plants need a lot of light and when they aren't placed directly in front of your brightest window, the light will not be enough for them to thrive. I’ve had my fiddle for about 3 or 4 months now and it’s been thriving wonderfully growing new leaves all big and standing up and just recently prob over the past week I noticed a newer top leaf limped over and hasn’t perked up. It has transitioned into fall now and I keep it by a south window and the temp/ humidity has not been the same since summer but nothing crazy.. temps around 70 inside and humidity like 50%. Anyway the bottom leaves are starting to turn yellow and it’s making me very said because I havnt had an issue all these months. Im wondering if it’s just getting cold drafts from the window or something. It does not receive as much sunlight as it did in summer but I keep it under a grow light a few days a week especially on cloudy days. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I water it with tap water about every 10 days ish no brown spots just pale yellow on the bottom and the leaves are looking droopy. I don’t understand

  • @FiddleLeafFigPlant

    @FiddleLeafFigPlant

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Nic, thanks for your comment! Sounds like 2 things are going on. Newer leaves will be more flimsy and will firm up over time as they mature. If it is quite cold outside the window it is up against, that may be contributing to the droopiness you see. Bottom leaves will naturally discolor and drop over time. This is just the normal life cycle of the leaves. But if you continue to see more leaves turning yellow, you will want to consider if your plant is receiving the nutrients it needs (Soil loses the nutrients after a year+ in time) and/or if it is getting too much water and not enough light as the season has changed. Hope this information is helpful!

    @@FiddleLeafFigPlant Thank you for your feedback! I will feed it plant food in a week and see if it helps it out. And yes I know a lot of people see leaves drop when they get a new FLF but I never had that issue! all leaves stayed on and looked very nice, I guess that's why I was so scared and sad when I noticed this happening. Maybe they just ran their course and aren't needed anymore. Thank you, Claire.

    If you've ruled out all the other possibilities for yellowing leaves and are confident that it is a pH issue, you could add some alkaline drops to the soil to increase it to 7! www.amazon.com/ALKAZONE-Alkaline-Gallon-Booster-Single/dp/B0732XG79Z/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=houseplant+acid+alkaline&qid=1592734523&sr=8-10 This article may be helpful as it discusses soil pH more in depth: fiddleleaffigplant.com/is-coffee-good-for-fiddle-leaf-fig-plants/

    Hi Michele, is your plant getting enough water? If the edges are dry and crispy, it might be the plant is too dry from lack of water and/or lack of humidity. Make sure to water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains well out the bottom drainage holes. Adding a small humidifier nearby can also make a big difference!
