We're camping in MN right now, and the aggressive niceness is real. Staying at a similar little county park, we met one of the locals who insisted we walk up to the community garden and take whatever we need. He also went to his garden and brought us six ears of corn and some dry wood to start a fire. Some of the nicest folks around here.

"Way North", yup, you're not far from me here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada at all! You zoomed through Thief River Falls. I know you like the back country more than the cities, but it sure has a lot to offer. And North Dakota doe shave the city parks as well. Living in Winnipeg, the majority of us zip to Grand Forks, Fargo, Devils Lake and Thief River Falls (& the surrounding area) for weekend getaways, or even camping vacations. N.D., you missed Devil's Lake. That might have swayed your opinion a bit. And now you're heading towards cottage country in MN! Absolutely beautiful country there!

What I have noticed since moving to small town, Wisconsin is that not only does the long winter encourage friendliness, but having less to do as compared to a city, encourages friendliness as well. Interaction with others is big entertainment. And a new face in town, well, that is a real curiosity. How much money one has does not seem to be so important. I suppose because things are more equitable in these parts. Money is not a focal point which also encourages human connection.

Hi Carolyn, I live in Minot, ND and nearly every small town in ND also has a little city park with at least 2 camping spots (sometimes with electric only, other times with water too......always on the honor system.) I travel to and from Minneapolis about 10 times annually and tend to stay in these spots spring/summer/fall. I don't use their electricity or water, so I usually only have to pay $12/night. I love it.

I seen the Sue Grafton novel and thought "grab it!". I read all her books, it's the alphabet series about a female detective "Kinsey Millhone"...I loved, loved, loved, the series, would wait on bated breath for the next one to come out, from 1982 to 2017. Good reads, fun but lots of touching on serious issues. The later one's were much more serious...but still good reads. I went from a young bride to Grandmother with Kinsey, she didn't age much though. The author passed away after writing "Y is for Yesterday"...didn't make it to "Z"...so sad...she and her main characters, were much loved by her readers...and she refused to sell to Hollywood...she wanted Kinsey to be who the reader's imagination thought she was...and other reason's, personal feelings she had about Hollywood. I admired that. Lovely vlog Carolyn...Badger was a nice place to be...did you good!

Hitting that Aux switch to join the house batteries with the starter battery does work to jump start the engine. I have done that several times over the years. Best thing I ever did in my RV was change over to AGM house batteries as it was very difficult to access my house batteries to check the water etc. AGM batteries are completely sealed and do not corrode either. They are stronger and have many more life cycles so they last longer as well.

I loved this video. I've lived in MN most of my 75+ years and I believe it's a very special place. While I was growing up I spent a lot of time in Lancaster. The people there are lively and fun. Our farm was less than 10 miles from there. I had a great childhood in that area. I've spent less time in Badger, but it is a nice town. The reason you see all the town's having parks is that before co-vid that are saw an influx of Canadian campers all summer, every summer. Things are cheaper here. I've had the chance to move to the Southwest, but declined because I'd miss the green and the blue of all our lakes. Just like you mentioned. 😊😍

Was in Lancaster many years ago (Mid 60s?) and it looks like there have not been many changes. Noticed that they do have new lamp posts...likely a big upgrade. In one of the little towns I bought a stamp for a postcard and the postmaster (in a little shop) asked if I minded if she read it "We don't get many folks or much news around here" lol. Thanks for the memories and for the company. As usual, interesting and a refreshing outlook on small town USA. God Bless.

Minnesotans love summers because winters can be tuff.Ive experienced 50 below and lots of snow and I'm from Colorado.

Yes, that was a coal shoot door. That's how they used to fill the coal bin in the old houses. My grandparents has one in there house. And the house I purchased also has one. Just make sure it is sealed tight. A full grown man could fit in through it.

Gotta love Minnesota small towns! I am proud to say this is MY hometown! You would have to go to Greenbush (10 miles away) for the 4th of July celebration. Nothing happening in Badger on the 4th! Sorry you missed the Twins for coffee. My favorite restaurant for friendly service and good food! ♥️

And as for your list of places to live, maybe as a summer home because you really REALLY have to love winter to live here. We have some of the coldest temps in the nation. Negative temps for days and days. But it is beautiful and serene in winter. I love it!

Eating healthy always a challenge….especially on the road I find…Wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a helpful tool to see what effect the foods we eat have on our blood sugar. High blood sugars after meals will cause high insulin and weight gain and can lead to inflammation and high triglycerides (cholesterol)…All the best on your journey East!!!
