Why are hundreds of Teslas parked in a Scottsdale parking lot?

A viral post on "X," formerly known as Twitter, claims the cars were abandoned. Tesla employees offered a different explanation.

Even worse, those EVs are "sold" in that a shell company buys them, registers them, parks them in endless fields, and then claims how great their EVs are selling. Everything about China is a smoke and mirrors game. Nevermind the fact that even their best quality EVs are pretty much just fires waiting to happen.

You both seems to have incomplete information, I've seen a complete reporting on those Chinese EVs, they went there to count and verify, there are EVs parked, but they're less than 1500, most belong to ridesharing/can aggregator companies, that have gone bankrupt, and most are old battery tech vehicles, there's another vital place where many EVs are parked, that's along China-Napal border, where cars are waiting documents approval for intercountry shipping.

Honestly, they are most likely correct. Last year I waited for my car for 6 weeks and dealership showed no inventory on the web site but they had similar parking lot with like 100-200 cars that was waiting for people to pick them up. They said that they "deliver" like 50 cars every day and its done in certain hours that you have to schedule ahead of time. They do prep work before delivery and that might be a time constrain. On Monday they told me that my car arrived and ready but I scheduled delivery on Saturday to avoid taking day off from work. So my car was there for the whole week, I assume many cases like this. Parking lot in front of the dealership was reserved for visitors, service and delivery purposes, not for storage.

They're selling million of Tesla's. That means on a given day there around around 5000 Tesla's in transit. If you can get new owners scheduled to pick within 1 day, that's 5000 Tesla's in parking lots parked. Of course, not everyone can pick up in 1 day. Loans, insurance, license plates, scheduling around work and family events. Let's say it take an average of 5 days to settle everything. 25,000 Tesla's in parking lots waiting for owners to pick them up. I graduated high school so I can do this math.

But all the MSM narratives like "EV sales growth is slowing" makes so much sense. Until you realize slowing growth is like saying slowing accelerion. You are still picking up speed, just not as much per second. Stats, Tesla has 20 days of "inventory" and Tesla considers all cars in transit or waiting for delivery as "inventory. The average for other auto makers is nearly 80 days of inventory. Tesla has cars for 1/4 as much time as other auto makers and you can see that publicly available in SEC filings and Earnings reports.

Tesla only has a hand full of locations per state. Some states have 0, like Iowa, so you gotta pay in-full or through a 3rd party financing just to get it shipped here. I know, because I had to pay in full. They didn't even offer leasing here, but I prefer ownership like most Iowans.

Part of the fleet of RoboTaxis. Check back after Aug 8. Do note that for years tens of thousands of GM and Ford cars are stored in fields in Nebraska and New Jersey. Auto makers declare a vehicle “sold” when shipped from the factory to a dealer where it sits until bought by a customer. These cars are shipped to shell companies owned by GM and Ford who stores them but never moves them to dealers.

The wild part of this news report, is these vehicles are all sold ready to be prepped to be given to to new owners. The Tesla show room in my city of Pasadena, Ca. is really small, it has two cars on display in the show room and about 6 cars in a small shared parking lot in the back for test drives. After a test drive I ordered my new Model Y and picked up the car in about two weeks in Marina Del Rey location about 45 minutes drive away. The car was in route from Fremont Factory in the Bay area. This thinking of slow demand is so dumb. When normal car dealerships are filled with cars, does that mean there is no demand for regular cars? Of course not, they are there ready to be sold. People always jump to conclusions without any reasoning. People have little ‘common sense’ these days. 😢
