Why are Fasting and Prayer Important to God?
Elder Shayne M. Bowen was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1 April 2006. He had been serving as an Area Seventy in the Idaho Area before his call as a General Authority. From 2006 to 2010 he served in the South America South Area presidency, serving as President between 2008 and 2010. From 2010 to 2014 he served at Church headquarters in various capacities. From 2014 to 2018, he served in the Philippines Area Presidency as President between 2016 and 2018. He is currently serving as a counselor in the North America Southeast Area Presidency, an Assistant Executive Director of the Self-Reliance Services/PEF Committee, and a Family History Committee member.

I understand that this was a great learning experience about fasting and prayer. I would like to share something very interesting. Yesterday (June 2nd, 2024), during the fasting and testimony meeting, two of our ward members shared powerful testimonies about fasting and prayer. This got me thinking about how I can improve my fasting experience, as I have struggled with it for a long time. After listening to them, I wanted to put extra effort into fasting and prayer. Then, the message I listened to today was not just a coincidence; it was meant for me to learn more about it. The principles in the message made more sense and will surely make my fasting easier, more personal, and more spiritual.
