    The Titanic wasn't a cruise ship. It was an ocean liner, which is different than a cruise ship. Cruise ships aren't used to bring people to a final destination, ocean liners are which is why cruises move at a leisurely pace while ocean liners try to make the journey as fast as possible.

    To the topic fuel consumption: Let's accept, that the cruise ships use heavy oil. This type of oil is defined by a wight of more than 900kg per 1000l. 1 gallon(US) are about 3,785l. So we could say that 1000kg fuel are estimated 278 gallons (about 950kg/1000l). The daily fuel consumption of a cruise ship is mentioned with 150 till 250 tons daily. So a ship burns 200 tons or 55600 gallons a day. This clip also says that this ships cruise with 23 mph. So a ship can move up to 552 miles a day. When we combine the daily fuel consumption of 55600 gallons and the 552 miles, we are at 100,7 gallons per mile! 😲

    Fun fact. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orelans, my family and neighbors had a trip booked with Carnival, and the hurricane sunk the ship we were set to cruise on. We never got a refund (thousands of dollars for 10 people) so I won't be cruising with Carnival next time I can afford to. Maybe it was insensitive to expect a refund during a natural disaster, but my mom worked herself to the bone for over two years to pay for all of us. A cruise was the last thing she wanted to do in this life before she passed away, and they took the opportunity to ever go away from her by refusing the refund. RIP mom, still upset with Carnival on your behalf.

  • @eliasshedd

    @eliasshedd

    2 жыл бұрын

    Kind of. You're pushing a barge that even just the containers are 1000 ft long and about 150 ft wide? You're tugboats what about 130 ft long. So yeah all together Your Vessel is about 1,150 ft long. This of course means that you absolutely could land a plane if your doors weren't so bumpy. You should tell your boss to send a plane to get you at the end of the month instead of sending a van. Cheap boss.
