Why Apple Products Are So Expensive | So Expensive

Ғылым және технология

Apple's reputation and brand allow it to charge a premium for its high-end products, like the iPhone 11 Pro Max, MacBook Pro, or the iMac Pro. Adding memory or storage to these products increases the cost even more. Because of this "Apple Tax," Apple products are often more expensive than competitors, bringing in huge profits for Apple.

It's sad that people don't realize they're paying one thousand pounds for basically a single, or a couple of new features. That's why I only buy a new phone every 5 or so years, I wait for significant improvements. Thinking of getting the next version of iPhone actually, my faithful 6S is getting a little too sick for me to use.

Its so strange to me since it's been proven time and time again that making a product more accessible/affordable rakes in more money due to a higher volume in consecutive sales. Yet its always the same story... that same affordable brand becomes "so big" it starts wanting to call itself a "luxury brand", ups the prices of everything, ...then wonders why it's sales suddenly start plummeting. Along with its need for innovation and push for a better tomorrow. Netflix is a good example.

The point was only hinted on but I think it's a very important one: Apple products don't work as well with other brands products. So - you get an IPad, you want to upload into the Cloud, which triggers the need for another apple product. And then another. Because you kind of already build a camp there and it's inconvenient to switch to another system.

I've owned several MacBook Pros, (I know, I was brainwashed - but I work in visual art where Mac is/was mandatory), and every single one of them had major hardware faults out of the box - dead logic board, dead keyboard, dozens of stuck pixels, dead wifi, bad backlight etc. Build quality was uniformly appalling - on machines that cost over $4k. Apple service was arrogant and completely unhelpful every time, to the point of being downright nasty if they could smell a refund in the air. I switched to PC after the frustration got too much - it's taken a while to get used to Windows, and it is as awkward as you've heard, but being able to take functionality for granted is a relief. My latest PC cost about half the Mac equivalent, but has double the RAM, double the SSD, an actually usable set of IO and a much, much better warranty - next day onsite for hardware faults. Compare that with Apple who will gladly toss you to the curb the moment you leave the store. It does the same work, at a conspicuously lower price. After my adventures with Apple it became clear to me that locking Apple Tax money up in pretty-looking hardware that is obsolete next year isn't very wise.

I have a high-end 17" gaming laptop with an 8 Core Intel CPU, Nvidia 3070, 64GB of RAM and 5TB of storage space. I can edit 4K videos and create fairly complex motion graphics animation and compositing work in After Effects without any issues. Windows 10 is incredibly stable, and aside from Chrome being Chrome (yeah I know there are better browsers) and memory leaking like a mesh strainer, I never had any issues with pushing the limits of my computer to the maximum while doing professional work. And I can still play graphically demanding games in 4K. The best part? With the base configuration, plus extra RAM and storage space upgrades, my laptop costs $2800. By comparison, a similar Mac Book Pro costs $4500. No thanks.

The makers of this video really skewed it for views and likes tbh. Apple is a mass-market premium brand not a luxury one. They make premium products but not luxury products. Luxury goods retain or appreciate in value, these are just another middle class brand in a first world country. Samsung also makes flagships at the same price but because they also sell cheap $100 models, they never have been able to retain a premium model only image.

You're not gonna be finding any Gucci or Hermes bags or Rolexes in a landfill, that's for sure. Kind of stupid they would say that in the video when the guy they are interviewing as an authority on the subject says the opposite.

I’m still using my iPhone 7 Plus and it feels and runs awesome on iOS 15.3, and I’m probably gonna upgrade to iPhone 14 Pro Max when the support for my 7 runs out. That’s the main reason I use Apple products like iPhone and iPad because in the long terms they’re actually cheaper, other phone manufacturers drop the support after 2-3 yrs.

It isn’t supplied, apple has a criteria and they want a company that fits the criteria to make the display.. here’s an answer from a credible source : *Q: Why does Apple have their phone screens made by Samsung?* *A: Apple does not make their own components.* *Just like all other computer manufacturers, Apple has components made for them all over the world then they are sent to China for final assembly* *Apple uses panels from several different companies, which are assembled with the protective glass, the touch layer, the pressure sensitive layer, etc. all squeezed together to make the display so Samsung actually doesn't “make displays” for Apple* *Some of the panels, but not all of them, are made by Samsung* *Sharp, LG and Japan Display have manufactured the majority of iPhone panels* *Samsung has been making OLED panels recently for Apple, the media and Apple-Haters have overblown that one tiny detail. The other companies have had problems making OLED panels in the quantity and quality level that Apple needs, but once that is sorted out, Apple will drastically reduce orders to Samsung and use other manufacturers instead* *Samsung’s OLED panels still suffer from multiple problems:* *They draw far too much power, 30 years ago the promise from OLED researchers was that OLED would use microscopic amounts of power but in reality Samsung’s OLED is a massive power hog* *Samsung’s OLEDs do not have color accuracy, colors change as the brightness changes. Apple has a lot of customers who are professional artists and filmmakers so the inconsistent color accuracy has held Apple back from buying Samsung OLEDs for years* *Burn-in is still a major problem with Samsung OLEDs* *Gamers complain of poor refresh rates when playing games* *Samsung OLEDs are excessively expensive, that is why the iPhones leaped up in price when Apple finally started offering Samsung OLED panels* *Apple has avoided OLED for as long as possible, for the above reasons, but the media assault on Apple was unbearable so Apple finally broke down and started offering Samsung OLED panels in some models* *Apple has been funding Japan Display to fix their manufacturing problems so once they get their issues sorted out Japan Display will make OLEDs for Apple, then we believe that Japan Display will set up a production line in the LG factory so that Apple will have three suppliers for OLED panels.* *Apple is also working with Sharp for future panels some expect that in the near future Apple will be using Sharp, LG and Japan Display for panels, and probably stop buying panels from Samsung altogether.* *Conclusion:* *Apple is using Samsung OLED panels because the other manufacturers have had problems delivering what Apple needs. Once they sort out their issues, Apple will have four different factories to supply panels to them.* Hope this helps.. ✌🏻

@@Ghostrider-ul7xn I didn't say Windows didn't have any features, you're just jumping to conclusion. I will say however that many programs on Windows have to run on lots of different devices, sacrificing optimalization. Besides macOS is unix based, which is why many software developers use macbooks.

@@maartenw4827both have their own use cases. The app support on MacOS is still as shitty as ever and you have to emulate Windows to run many softwares on it even today. Besides it's daylight robbery to sell a 256 gig storage and 8 gb ram laptop at the price of the base M1 Air. It's just not acceptable. The soldering of RAM and storage has very minimal advantages compared to disadvantages, which are pretty obvious.

I really want to like iPhones for their long software (and security) support, but then I see: Battery is glued. You have to spent hundreds of bucks for a new screen. The initial price is extremely high... I think for a 1000 dollar phone, 4 or 5 years of software updates are not enough...but the intentionally designed unrepairability makes it a no go.

I mean it's 2022 and they just released the M1 Max chip which is crazy efficient in terms of performance over energy consumption. Tramples all other laptops out of the competition. But the storage is just stupidly expensive. I use cloud storage anyways so I only got the base model for my work but having a larger local storage could've been more beneficial in the future. But as the video says, you can't keep an electronic device for a lifetime. I usually upgrade in 2-3 years. So, there's that..
