While anti-microbial resistance and COVID-19 are both pressing health issues, they are not directly related. AMR involves resistance to antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents, whereas COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is a type of virus and not treated with antibiotics. However, the overuse of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for secondary bacterial infections, has potentially accelerated the development of AMR.
