I have lived in Cambodia for over 2 decades and the main reasons I moved here from Thailand was because of Visas and secondly economic reasons. Cambodia is very affordable, but don't overlook the people, for many years Cambodians have been voted the friendliest people in the world. I love the people and the culture. The fact that it's so affordable is a bonus. I live on a budget of $800 a month including my health insurance. Health care has improved dramatically over the years, but still if you need any serious health care like major surgery, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore are only an hour away. And for your yearly checkups everything is available at very reasonable prices. A lot of hospitals offer deals on packages for a checkup including doctor fees, blood tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs etc. for from $250-$500+ ❤❤

I've lived here for over 17 years, and first off - I have met in all these years exactly ZERO westerners who want to move here because of the temples - you see them once, then you're done. They may move here to open businesses in Siem Reap that will cater to tourists going to see the temples, but they're not something one regularly goes to see. People move here because of the ease of obtaining a long term visa, the cost of living and quality of life, and how welcoming and kind the Cambodian people are. Second, it is NOT a democracy - holding elections does not make a democracy, as the ruling party has banned all other major parties from said elections - it is an authoritarian state, but a functioning one that gets stuff done, and still allows for many civil and economic freedoms.

The fact that the video is just constant sound effects makes it really easy to focus on the information in the video. Great job. Perhaps in the next video you can add even more effects so we need to use caps? Just an idea.

There are Khmers, Thais, Laos, Burmese and Chinese people, many of whom have been tricked into selling them and was detained to be used as a call center gang. People who escape will have their arms or legs amputated or killed. The news is published every day, but the news in Cambodia is not published. What is true the dictatorial government of Hun Sen will absolutely not publish news like this. Because he wants to brainwash the Khmer people into believing. Believe only good things but bad things are hidden. People can't have a voice. Lack of rights and freedoms. Set up the public sector until the dictatorial government of Hun Sen. Because the Khmer can't think of anything, the easiest thing for the Khmer government to do is to brainwash the people by impersonating or is it best to claim Thai culture as your own? and forget your own roots. Besides, I don't have any need to visit anything as you said. I can tell you that I myself have had business in Cambodia and have been back and forth many times. Each time it lasted for a month. I've spent most of my adult life in Asia teaching English and volunteering with NGOs (10 years in Sri Lanka, 2 years in India, 2 years in Malaysia, 10 years in Thailand, a few months each in Nepal and Myanmar)...now back in the U.S. for a brief interval due to passport and visa problems in Thailand...maybe Cambodia will be my next country. Wish this video would touch on work and volunteer opportunities in the country...is NGO and teaching work still easy to get here?

Cambodia still has a long way to go! Healthcare is a concern, Thailand has state of the art healthcare and highly qualified doctors and nurses to take care, I’ve been sick and had to go to one. Transportation is tough no MRT or subway to get around, too dependent on Tuk Tuk. The sanitation still is not great but I give Cambodia props as 15 yrs ago it was far less developed. Also I think they need diversification in their travel industry… using Angkor as their only what we can offer you isn’t going to cut it. You can live cheap in Battambang and Siemreab for way less than $1200.

@@eattrip6973 I’m just stating the obvious btwn these countries not comparing who is better than who, it’s what it is. Thailand has had political instability throughout its history but nothing to the level that Cambodia went through. However, the obvious is that Cambodia still has a long way to go that’s all. It will get there but with such a small population they need a bit more help. Education should be a priority to up the middle class and bring people out of poverty. With more middle class means more spending power and knowledge to help the country grow too. Plus diversification of tourism and not so focus on Angkor as the main attraction as most people will likely just go once, you want people to keep coming back for other things. Like why do people keep going to NYC definitely not to keep seeing the Statue of Liberty every time. Kinda like that! Hope for the best!

Unfortunately, Sihanoukville has been ruined by Chinese developers. It has been leased to China for 99 years to serve as Special Economic Zone. Chinese investors flocked in and began constructing high rise buildings for use as hotel-casinos, then boom! Covid 19 broke out in 2020 and they returned to China never to come back leaving behind unfinished buildings as eye sores. Western tourists failed to return. As a matter of fact, wherever Chinese congregate, Western tourists tend to stay away. Sihanoukville will never be the same again.
