I love that you bring other instructors onto your channel, there's so much information out there and different instructors have different ways to explain. I've had instruction with teachers and they were trying to explain things but I wasn't understanding but another teacher would explain the same thing in a different way and it clicks. I really appreciate how he speaks about the swing in relation to the spine, well done sir👍

Some basic kinesiology A “ normal spine “ is defined as the position of the spine in which the 3 spines ( lumbar , thoracic , cervical ) are aligned with normal spinal curvatures -lumbar ( inward or lordosis ) Thoracic ( outward or kyphosis) Cervical( lordosis) A “ normal spine” is the position of the spine which both maximizes mobility and minimizes injuries . Deviations from a “ normal spine “ will reduce mobility and increase the chances of injuries . The position of the spine suggested by your accompanying pro involves posterior pelvic rotation or tucking the pelvis .It will cause the tailbone ( coccyx) to move down and forward and moves the lumbar spine into flexion .It shortens the hamstrings , lengthens the quads and places the abs into a “crunch position”. While some think that such movement will activate the glutes ,it actually will cause chronic tightening of the gluteal muscles , external hip rotation and weakens the pelvic floor muscles . In essence “ tucking the pelvis forces the spine into a position that contradicts the idea of a “ neutral spine “ Just like nobody would recommend tucking the pelvis when doing “dead lifts”, no golfer should tuck their pelvis at golf setup. Rotation in the golf swing should focus only on the thoracic spine with a “ normal spine” as the all important foundation .

I have watched countless videos in an effort to improve my body rotation in the downswing to no avail. This is the first time I've seen such a great explanation of the pivotal movements in the downswing step by step. Went and practiced in my living room and felt the results immediately. I finally understood the problem was me locking my lower back thinking it was the correct posture when it wasn't. Now I feel like I'm almost rounding my back, and dropping my arms as dead weight in the setup to feel every rotational position. Amazing video!

@Teedo.....same here. I have an indoor launch monitor with swing capture cameras. I have been working on keeping my posture thru the swing and no longer early extending. Trevor's setup help me accomplish this naturally. GG and others also talk about this but with Trevor it just made more sense. It's his only "non-negotiable"!! That told me something. Thanks, Eric, for bringing Trevor on your channel & thanks for all you do for the game too!

I have spent literally years trying to figure out why everything in my swing looks good until P5 and then my right hip starts moving forward leading to compensations and inconsistent strikes. I have seen instruction on getting the lower torso more upright (belt buckle more forward} at address but I have never really understood this until now. This was a lightbulb moment for me. I tried to exaggerate this setup (it didn't look exaggerated in my video though) and just made a swing without really trying to do anything different. Video confirmed what I felt - hip depth the entire swing. Left hip went though the vertical line I drew of the address position. Everything is so much easier now in terms of feeling the turn power the swing. Thanks guys, great video!

What I liked here was the posture at address ! This to me was the crucial element of the whole lesson. Without the correct bending towards the ball, not sort of locking the back with the butt out posture was my biggest takeaway, plus of course the relationship between the arm speed to body speed being so much faster.

Great video! I was a bit confused at first re: alligator jaws. The gator tail is toward the target and the two sticks from mid chest opposite the target are the jaws. The lower jaw opens wider at the beginning of the downswing. This visual emphasizes the lower body moving to a greater degree than the shoulders at the beginning of the downswing. A superimposed gator could have clarified. Hopefully, I do not fall down when I first try this on the course. Anything I can learn to help take excessive arm effort out of the beginning of the downswing is valuable to me. Thank you very much for this great demo Eric and Trevor!

LOL at 'vertebraes.' The word vertebrae is already plural. Its singular is vertebra. Otherwise, good instructional content, if perhaps a little too complicated in its presentation. The very short segment at the beginning in which he mimics how it would be for a pitcher to reverse the natural sequence is gold.

Hi guys great video! The various exercises to start the downswing in order to sequence the pelvis, rib cage, and the shoulder’s are all good; but highly exaggerated compared to the actual golf downswing that take about 1/3rd second Correct? So I would like to simplify the downswing for everyone in terms of Golf’s true body mechanics. As long as golfers set their golf posture in the correct manner Trevor have shown they will find that simply squeezing their buttocks together ( lead buttock against the trail buttock) on the start of their downswing will automatically accomplish several domino moves. Squeezing the buttocks together to start the downswing actually prevents their hips from ever spinning out of control; and also will automatically move their pelvis first, the rib cage second; and then their arms. Believe it or not their lead knee will automatically get our of their way as well. And this simple move will also bring the golfers entire body to the classic trail ‘heel away’ stand up finish. All done in about 1/3rd of a second. The human buttocks Is the center and origin to the golf downswing. Please have an open mind and try my recommendation. As you swing your club back and forth simply think in timing and tempo “Back&Squeeze”. You will love it, after all we are all built similar; and at age 75 i discovered it works. Remember you heard this from me first. Cheers

great stuff... but Trevor looks like a contortionist or gumby with how much he can turn and be flexible... his length and thinner stature also allows much more flexibility. The moves he is showing are not possible for many amateurs such as myself.... 40 yr old 10-12 GHIN, 5'9" 185 lbs... with some back and shoulder issues and some permanent spasms in the back. I realize these issues can be fixed a little bit... when I'm lose i can turn pretty well. But it would be awesome to see some stepping stone movements to what Trevor or Eric are showing us from people who haven't had a near perfect swing for the majority of their life and have ideally conditioned bodies for the game... Meaning, i would like to see you all provide some musts vs nice to haves based on ability and physical condition. I feel like it is tough sometimes to get the point or get the feel for some of these lessons when you can't recreate what these pros are doing. I'm not criticizing this video tbh... It's just something I'd like to see on this and other golf instruction youtube channels. It's nice to strive for an ideal swing and to know what you should be doing ideally... but it sure would be nice to visually see how to achieve the bare minimum non-negotiable points for the swing in this video... instead of packaging 6-8 concepts and movements at once... 3 or 4 of which cant' be reproduced by dad bods such as myself.

I think that the separation of the upper and lower body dogma (= X-factor) needs to be seriously addressed. More than 1/3 of amateur golfers suffer from chronic LBP and so far research shows that such separation may play a key role (together with other factors, such as reverse spine angle). For all of us dying to play without pain and finding it very difficult to rotate and pivot with the strength that this kind of swing demands, it is somehow frustrating that there is no alternative offered out there as if the classic golf swing had never produced results. I don't mean that we, those not able to achieve such crunch factor/side bent like Trevor's, should swing like most golfers in their 70s, having logically lost the needed flexibility, but there must be a way to generate speed and get solid impact while not having to separate so much upper and lower body, same as the classics did.

For me I need to feel arms moving first followed by the body to produce consistent shots. This same teaching by another instructor totally screwed up my swing as my tendency would be to fire the hips too quickly and spin out of the shot creating a very steep and over the top swing plane. This might work for some but it’s definitely not a one size fits all approach. On another note, it drives me crazy when instructors compare a golf swing to throwing a ball over hand. Not an apples to apples comparison. A more appropriate comparison would be a tennis or hockey motion.

Eric do you know how hard that swing is for guys 40 and older ? I have always looked at Louie Oostheizen on how balanced he is through the golf swing and I can only speak for myself I use to turn and try to do what this guy is saying and I was going backwards, I played baseball as a kid and in high school and after 16 inch softball a Chicago game . His swing is for a young guy have you ever seen Jack Nicklaus do this? No I have found my power again by doing this with my hips instead of turning I heard Rory in a video say on the downswing he gets his knee out of the way by bringing it back so I have incorporated that on both the backswing and downswing which gives me great balance and I also do what Pete Cowan says on going to the top I do his hands going in opposite directions I get massive power doing this . I am not trying to debunk this guy he seems like a good guy but his body movements on the downswing I will be in traction and with no power . A Baseball pitcher usually from 20-35 has way better movements being that young ..

Yeah… I don’t know about that. First of all, that impact position is demonstrably wrong. The shoulders are square to just slightly open at impact. I doubt anyone would argue that. This coach has his shoulders like 90 degrees open in his impact position. His idea of bending at the thoracic and not at the pelvis is going to send people to the hospital. That’s… not how it works. Ask a kinesiologist to correct that. That’s his one non negotiable? I feel for his students. Look at his swing, he’s bending exactly how he says not to bend. The figure skater doesn’t do wha he says. The pitcher only does it before he starts his motion. Alligator jaws? Lo Mein from China? Clear as mud.
