Why Do People HATE The Harley Davidson V Rod? Ride, Review, Impressions...
Why All The Hate? Harley Davidson V-Rod Ride, Review, Impressions... (it's a BEAST!)
I purchased two harley vrods (night rods) a few months back to see what all the hype was about. These bikes get lots of hate from some folks out there and I think it's undeserved. There's a lot to like about the vrod once you get past the fact that they're not your traditional Harley motorcycles. Tag along as I do a quick ride, review, and impressions of the Harley Davidson VRod.

@@TripleOG31 , I've owned many shim under bucket bikes. On the Concours 1400 it felt like I was doing open heart surgery. Now, the bike I own that require valve adjustments either have exposed valve covers, (Moto Guzzi, BMW boxer), or have inspection caps and lock nut adjustments. (Royal Enfield, Suzuki thumper.) My Mean Streak cost a fraction of the V-rod, and is low and mean. LOL!

Vrod mechanic and engine tuner here. I fully agree with you. These engines aren't just reliable they're insanely robust! With bigger headstuds and head gaskets you can chuck on a turbo or supercharger with absolutely no issues, if tuned correctly ofcourse. We had a stock engine (besides what I mentioned) at 20psi pushing 240HP at wheel (double of what it is stock). We have engines here from 2004 that still purr like a new one. As long as you service these regularly they'll last. For anyone, I definitely reccomend trying one if you're into harleys. I'm actually very sad that they got rid of such a flagship engine and replaced it with something like the Milwaukee eight

I think the thing that pisses me off the most about the VROD isnt the bike itself, but the way the harley haters treated the bike. Before Harley cancled it, pretty much EVERYONE dogged on this bike and trashed it as hard as they could. Harley haters especially. Calling it a mistake, and a bad bike, and that it was really a "porche with an HD logo." And all kinds of numerous myths and hateful behavior towards the bike. Then Harley cancles it. And all of the sudden all of the haters turned around and said "THAT WAS THE GREATEST HARLEY EVER WHY DID THEY STOP MAKING IT?!" I had never heard so much positive press and praise of the bike until AFTER it was out of production. Really pisses me off. Haters use this biked for almost 20 years as pure ammo to trash on harley, and now that the bike is gone, its only gotten worse. The VROD is a prime example of why harely needs to stop listening to haters when they make new stuff to appeal to people who hate the brand. Because those people are just blowing smoke out their ass and will never buy an HD no matter what they make.

@Wayne Smith the point being, if the "haters" were a little more open-minded about something different, the sales could've been seriously impacted in a positive way. The two are directly related. Think about it...they sell tons of Low Riders S' because a lot of those guys think it's the "performance" Harley when a V-Rod would blow one out of the water.

From a owner perspective: I traded a Fatboy for a VRod and im ridiculously happy, my balls are not shaking anymore like driving a old piece of agricultural equipment, now I can enjoy push the throttle and feel the punch even in top gear, no more slow boring bike, the heat equivalent of solar flares coming towards me from the engine every time I stop in summer times is gone, Im absolutely in love with the harmony and beauty if the design, double brembo calipers at front, hydraulic clutch, aggressive spirit and looking, and everybody fall in love with this bike at the first view people make you questions or just give you ovations about how beautiful is. The engine is the jewel of this bike, the revolution engine, Co designed with Stuttgart Porsche, Porsche changed the 45 degrees classic engine to 60, incorporated double cams in each head, 125HP with 85 lb-ft @ 9.000 RPM and water cooling system. The Revolution engine proved it was reliable, as well as powerful, when countless perfection tests were performed on the engine in Germany. The engine spent more hours in a Düsseldorf Test wind tunnel than even a Porsche sports car before successfully reaching 500 hours of non-stop test time. Such a unique, and intense, design shows how meticulous effort went into combining engineering and styling to create something to behold, which was a lightweight and sharp-looking addition to a cruiser class of motorcycles. But it would be unlike the old, favorite cruiser style of Dyna and the Sportster; no, Harley-Davidson motorcycles just saw the advent of something entirely different. Discontinued, why? The VRod wasnt a failure, they sold 190.000 VRods a year!, It wasnt a failure, the whole Indian business sale about 50.000 bikes a year im sure they dream with sale 190.000, the problem was people was getting into the VRods a lot and Harley was affair to lose they roots, culture and the old farts with gray beards buying over marked leather and gear.

This was probably H-D most reliable Engine, it was bullet proof. I think a reason H-D got rid of it was they never made money on it with repairs/maintenance. It simply did not break. All this bike needed was a 6th gear and more advanced electronics. This Engine could have very easy gone into a touring platform and sell tons of them.

There's two types of bikers: those that like V-Rods, and idiots. Every person who hates on them always has some bullshit excuse: it's not a "real" Harley (fact: It's built off a liquid cooled Harley race engine that Porsche had a little input with on preparing the cooling system and heads for the street, the rest of the bike is all Harley,) it's not as fast as a rocket (it's a cruiser, it's not supposed to be,) it's ugly (completely subjective,) etc etc etc. You've heard them all. You can not like the looks of a bike and still appreciate it for what it is. The fact of the matter is that it's a reliable, fast, comfortable, well-adjusted and easy to handle bike and there's just not much to dislike there. For context: I own a Sportster. I'm just a realist.

Love the Video! A few comments... I appreciate your perspective about the forward vs mid controls. I was fortunate enough to get a 2006 nightrod with mid controls and forward pegs. Coming from riding SV1000s I really appreciate the control and stability I get from the mids. (My HD friends hate the mid controls but that's because they are HD obsessed and they are only familiar with forwards). The ONLY issue I have is a lot of the exhaust systems available (for vrod and family) have issues with the mids. I went for a danmoto 2 into 1 highwayman exhaust for 260$ ish and did the swap myself. A lot of the pipes scrape on right handers/sweepers so consumers need to keep that in mind. The alternative pipes upwards of 1k$ also scrape on right handers/sweepers. I would say that is one of my only issues with it is the scraping of the pipes. (LOUD PIPES, LOUD BIKE. Definitely need ear protection) As you said, it is a ROCKET! On stock pipes the torque band was 4-6k rpm (ish) but now with the full exhaust swap the band is like 3-7k rpm. I haven't dyno'd it yet and am considering but I have the PCV for fuel management (Dynajet did not have a mapping for my exhaust but they are working on it). Additionally, the bike is faster than the headlight so that might be a decent upgrade. I live in NH and a lot of my roads don't have street lights... Lastly, the bars could be a little better, I am looking into more straight/drag style with enough comfort to still cruise. Thank you again for the video and I hope that you get to ride it a fair amount before it leaves your stable!

I bought a Super Glide in 2006. Didn't fell right and sold it a year later.Bought a Night Rod in 08 with mid mount controls and still have it.To me it is the perfect street/muscle bike. p.s it is still factory striped with no add on garbage. If I get my 70 Chevelle SS 454 4 speed going again I might have to post my first video

There great bikes my brother in law has screaming eagle edition but he can only ride for about 45 mins now not the most comfortable. When I got my 15 valkyrie I had to see how it would compare I could stay in front till 4th gear the vrod hits the high rpms and takes over fantastic bike.

Gorgeous bike! I remember when they were new. I loved the V Rod. I couldn't believe the motorcycle company, that always built bikes for old geezers, was making such a cool bike. I was amazed that people hated the V Rod. I still want to get one some day.

The older models with the 180 rear tire were built for a better top end! I also sent my stock cams off to web cam in California, and had them grind for better performance! I just recently purchased a 1981 Honda CBX 1050! Badass! Getting her tuned next week.✌

I have a 2014 CB1000r and a 2013 Nightrod in my garage.... this is the only HD I'd buy. Can't believe HD is still selling air cooled engines in 2020. The Nightrod / Vrod runs HOT, so not having it liquid cooled would be awful here in Florida.

The Vrod was and still is a awesome bike and you are right a blast to ride, that being said similar to the m109r these bikes are not for everyone once you get used to that big rear tire they are nimble to ride with no issue but you have to put a bit more of effort. Most people are so used to riding in 180 tire and below that anything above that they say it doesnt turn I usually laugh at that, but then again that is me and every rider experience is different if they dont experiment on other brands and models then they will not know the difference or aquire new skill set . I have a M109r B.O.S.S and love it 👍👍😁

It’s simple. Anyone that’s a true motorcycle lover knows that the ultimate bike combines comfort/touring with raw power. I’ve always said, if anyone could produce a bike that had the ergonomics, comfort of a Honda Fury, Harley Road King or even a Yamaha VStar with a Yamaha VMax engine, it would be pure gold. I’ll never understand people. Two wheels forever!!
