True, he put 2 and 2 together in both Kwami Buster and Chat Blanc. The only reason he didn't pursue that thought in Kwami Buster, was because they're not supposed to know, plus, there was the mission to tend to. Both times, he was happy with the thought that Marinette could be Ladybug. Even going as far as telling Marinette that he loves her, without checking to be sure first. Also the Line "What if Marinette were Ladybug?" This hints that Adrien thinks that if Marinette were in fact Ladybug, it would explain why he feels there's something more than just a friend. When he says "and now I know why" in Chat Blanc, it could also mean that the fact that Marinette is Ladybug is why he always thought about her as more than just a friend .

ITS CHARACTER PROGRESSION

My theory is simple: Adrien keeps on denying his feelings for Marinette because he likes ladybug and would feel like he was "cheating" on ladybug if he ever admitted to himself or acted upon his feelings towards Marinette. Even with Kagami it feels like he is distracted and holding back, because he is. He is distancing himself with his romantic feelings because he is so infatuated with ladybug and it would feel wrong for him to romantically be with someone else while be so "in love" with Ladybug. So I believe he def likes Marinette but will not act upon it as long as he loves Ladybug.

I can’t remember what episodes this is from but there were akumas or something and you can see the difference between how Adrien protects Kagami vs Marinette. With Kagami he sorta “held” her a little and then she pushed him outta the way. Whereas with Marinette he full out grabbed her and ducked down. There’s definitely a difference there 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are 2 more pieces of evidence. 1. When he backs up from kissing Marinette at the museum, he knew she was thinking that it was only a statue. It wouldn't have been fair for her to kiss him thinking she was kissing a statue. So he made that clear before "the worse" could happen. 2. Adrien basically ASKED Marinette for her permission to date Kagami. In Glaciator, Adrien Knew the meaning of the ice-cream. In the last episode of s3, he asked MARINETTE to CHOOSE if he should share the ice-cream with her or with Kagami and she decided to let them date. 3. Adrien suspected more than once that Marinette might like him. In the s.Valentine day episode when Marinette forgets to sign her heart shaped poem, when he reads it, his mind immediately goes to think to compare it to Marinette's notes. Then he says... "but there's Luka, it must be a coincidence". Besides, as Chat, he's been in Marinette's room when it was covered with pictures of him (with hearts drawn around his face and not around the clothes). So he for sure sospects it. When he confronts her about it, she denies it. 4. He asked her multiple times of her opinion of chat, because obviously he want to see if she likes him. She always denies it, obviously. So really. Adrien really did the obvious thing.

This comment is so underrated, I totally agree with you! I also think he actually notices but Marinette is just too hesitant and has lost a bunch of opportunities that Adrien himself has given directly to her... He's just way to polite and respectful, and even doubtful it obviously has everything to do with the isolation he has suffered, doesn't fight for any love because maybe in the bottom of his heart he thinks he doesn't deserve any, due to the fact that not even his father wants to spend time with him, and that being the exact opposite of his warm kind self hasn't worked out either with Ladybug when he's the flirty Chat Noir we all love, maybe too aggressive to be liked by Marinette that way, he doesn't know what else to do because he's just 13-14 years old and boy is that age really confusing, especially with those issues and no maternal figure to ask for advice... I actually think Adrien is a great character, hope the writers will make him justice with a great development in the future seasons, and also hope the same for Marinette, they're still kids after all.

I think he backed away from the kiss in that episode because she wasnt acting like Marinette at all. Conpared to the other kiss where Chloe stopped them, he felt more confortable because she's acting the way she always acts. No suspicion.

Well in the New York special aeon aka uncanny says that the miraculous can only fool human minds and that she's not a human Well this means that the magic confuses people. I think the reason for this is to keep the owner's identity hidden

Another theory: We all know that he sees Cat Noir as freedom. Maybe he associates that freedom with Ladybug, as whenever he is Cat, he is with her. If Adrien were to fall in love with Marinette (Like actually admitting it not just hiding them) it would be like he would be betraying his feelings for Ladybug, thus his freedom.

Oh my gosh! He might say he doesn’t like Marinette because he thinks that she likes Luka, and if she does like him, she would most likely reject him(obviously she very much DOES like Adrien). Adrien already getting rejected by Ladybug everyday, he just can’t handle two girls he likes rejecting him. He first started liking Ladybug and in Oblivio saw that it was very paw-sible to happen, so that’s might be one reason why he is keeping away from Marinette!

I am still felling frustrated at Adrien when he called her a "friend" in frozer

I agree with all the theories in the vid. I think Adrien is subconsciously repressing his feelings for her bc of a) the fear of loosing her and b) his feelings towards Ladybug, making him feel guilty/unloyal towards Ladybug. He's also been emotionally abused and isolated his whole life so his social skills are quite lacking and he's not as good at picking up social cues, which might be why he's so oblivious to Mari showing affection towards him. Her being so awkward around him probably doesn't help. I think his feelings are becoming more and more visible through his actions though. The way he looks at her is NOT how you'd look at your friend and he's becoming more and more fond of her and her antics.

i feel like he says “she’s just a friend” to like remind himself to not like her because he doesn’t want to lose their friendship hahahaa. yesss the episode where he got so upset because he thought marinette didn’t want to be his friend.
