Why A Live Action Miraculous Would Be A DISASTER⎮A Miraculous Ladybug Live Action Discussion
Ойын-сауық
Miraculous is a franchise that seems poised to branch out. A movie on the way, we've had specials, and are onto season five. Plus all the extra tie in content. So, naturally, as always seems to happen. My thoughts have drifted towards the live action side of things. Is it a possibility to see Ladybug or Cat Noir on the big screen? Would it make sense? Or a disaster waiting to happen (it's definitely this!!). So join me as I puzzle out this very question. Enjoy!

Live action would only work for me if it would adapt the original version where it was actually dark before it went through the kid friendly filter.

We don't need a live action, we need focus on the things that really matter and be careful not to leak things and cause production problems again, the animated movie has been delayed several times and the show has episodes that constantly delays, so how can I expect less from the live action?

I agree we need them to focus on the animated movie, the show and the specials they're supposedly making since we haven't heard anything about the Africa one for a bit
I have a feeling it would take Thomas Astruc or Jeremy Zag years before they even think of making a live action film. A. because the actors actually need to be good at acting than just look the same as the characters of the show. B. The film would be epensive and the CGI might be more prominant in the show and C it might break the story telling and lore with the budget cuts and time.

In general, my take is - let animated media stay animated. You can do _everything_ with the medium, something that can't be said about live action and I don't see a single advantage that live action supposedly has over the animated media they're adapting (looking at you, Disney). You want to improve Miraculous? Keep hiring and paying well the studios that make it look as beautiful as it can (SAMG my beloved!), don't go the Disney route. Invest fully in SAMG if you still can, to hell if the episodes take longer to make - good! Maybe then you won't repeat Disney's - again, the nonsense just does not stop! - mistake of overworking your poor animators so much they get sick of working in the industry for good.
They haven't even finished the animated movie and they want to have the competence to make a live action with so many other things to do? We have many live action hero productions, and they already have a lot to do with Miraculous and other things they promised, they need to focus on few things at once to be able to do it right, we have the animated movie, the next seasons and new animations that ARE ALREADY BEING LEAKED, and also the specials, which are not few. It's already a lot, we don't need live action, we need to focus on the things that really matter and be careful not to leak things and cause production problems again.
I couldn't agree more with you. Live action would be a horrible idea for the franchise especially if we have to see that damn statue scene in live action. Trust me they would find a way to show that and no I really don't want to know what that be like lmao.
I can only see a live-action Miraculous happening under 2 scenarios: 1) When they are adults, training the next era of heroes where Ladybug is still the holder, but could be looking for a successor. 2) Showing a whole new set of heroes who have wielded the Miraculous in the past or the distant future. If set in the future, they could have it set in the year that Bunnyx visited in the episode Reunion as a little Easter Egg to the fans. Either is still good for new iterations of the series, live-action, or animation. After all, we have seen other Miracle Boxes/Miraculous in different parts of the world. But making live-action now for the teen heroes, eh, not so sure on that.
it would be incredibly hard to make a good live adaptation
Fun fact: in 2016/2017 they made a "teaser" in comicon but that was 6 or 7 years ago so thank God that it's cancelled 💀
As much as I totally agree I still really want a live adaptation maybe not of the current show but of the same concept, it could allow for another shot at writing an amazing story(one that’s darker than the current one). Perhaps it could work with new characters and locations but simply occurs a long time after marinette was the guardian and whatever happened to all the miraculous after that period of time is what we witness in this “sequel”. I also think miraculous is underlooked by a lot because of its animated feel and the fact it’s a little childish sometimes. A live action serious and more darker story with the whole miraculous concept can attract SO much attention and be SO GOOD.

I believe that a significant part of why there are so many live-action adaptations of animated media that are unsuccessful is that you cannot get the same exaggerated movements and facial expressions you can in animated shows.
I think a live-action adaptation would work as a PG-13 series for people who watched Miraculous as kids. Take the Winx series for example. It was a kid-friendly animated TV show, and Netflix made a mature live-action adaptation aimed towards teens and adults who grew up watching Winx Club. I personally would love a live-action adaptation of Miraculous if they took this route.
@MJ-98

Yeah but the problem with that Netflix show is that most original Winx fans hated it. It did not work.
@NoName-dx1no

@@MJ-98yes, because the live action lacked an essential thing that made the show popular which was the aesthetic of a fairy/ sci-fi world and friendship,plus the show was well known for pretty outfits that would match each of the characters’ a personality, at least initially. If the Netflix counterpart never had the winx name it would be fine but since it did it broke every expectation of the good styling many fans were expecting, and it’s kinda stupid to not do it especially when the fashions of the 2000s were trending lately. also the casting was pretty bad and was somehow less diverse than the show that was made in 2004, for Flora who was based off Jennifer Lopez who was Latina and the character in a way was Latina coded, they attempted to replace it with a plus sized white woman for body diversity as if plus size Latina women don’t exist. And they changed the dynamics between the characters so people are pretty pissed about that too

I sure hope not. I hope they make a more faithful adaptation.
Even live action movies tend to be nothing like their cartoon counterparts but that’s mostly because the live action superhero films are marketed towards adult audiences while the cartoons are marketed towards kids. There are probably some ways they could spin it into a more serious live action story but they would have to cut and rework a lot from the source material.
@user-hi3bn8pe5l

Tv series would be better with adult audiences that can be adapted to most viewers. Titanic. And other great romantic hits.
I mean, the sonic movies are technically live-action, mostly based on animated stuff, but the sonic characters themselves are animated. The only live action sonic characters that would actually be real are the human characters in Sonic, like Eggman, but the ones that look like Sonic are animated, and that’s why I think the Sonic movies work, as well having a good story and fight scenes, but a show like this would not work in live-action, at least in my opinion.
i am surprised you didnt show any clips from all those fan live-action skits on youtube .......there are a ton of them

@StrawberryStar exactly
I feel like a live action spin-off could work maybe having inspiration from the show but a different story or take on it give different outfits could end up like how dc and marvel live actions could be if it's a more serious but still light version of it. I feel it'd work better in a show setting though if it was live but there'd be alot of story elements that'd have to change like instead of full transformation maybe it'd focus more on the enterences of the heroes idk I feel like it could work only in this way
I'd be down for a live action adaptation would be fine. I mean, Spider-Man (something Miraculous took a lot of inspiration from)went from cartoon to live action with NO PROBLEM! And yet, were gonna put down this franchise for wanting to attempt the same venture? I say give them a chance before you completely dismiss it as this not being a good idea.

While Miraculous took a lot of inspiration from Spider-Man, there is one big difference. Spider-Man has one of the best rogues gallery in comics. Miraculous Ladybug doesn't have that. Hawk Moth is a villain who could work for a series, but isn't a good villain for even an overstuffed, three-hour movie.
What if the live adaptation showed the arc of one of the villains Bunnix mentions in Timetagger? The characters would be older and there's a story that has been mentioned, but not shown, that could play out.
Miraculous series feels more like the promotion of the toys and other products than it does as an actual show lately
Hm, fair and valid points and opinions, Honestly, at this point, I have grown tired of Live-Action Adaptations, so i really hope it doesn’t happen, especially for a Show like this. Speaking of which, has there been a Promised Neverland Live-Action Adaptation?
@vflowersimp

I believe there was a promised neverland live action that came out in 2020, although, I haven’t rlly heard much about it
I mean it would only suck if if it’s done terrible You could potentially have a live action Miraculous film that’s great. You could either have the film be an origin story for the heroes or it could be more the two part episode Heroes Day. If you go for the origin then you can introduce the characters, have them discover the miraculouses, adjust to having super powers and keeping secrets from everybody. End the film with the villain still at large abd heroes continue to be heroes. If you want it more like Heroes Day then you could throw in the heroes and villains been heroes and villains for a while, only show teeny bits of their past, to explain who they are and how they got the way they are. Have people celebrate having heroes in the city, villain has something big planned, villain seems triumphant, heroes manage to beat him only for him to escape and fight another day.
A live-action Miraculous is sorta real-in the form of a musical. I had no idea it existed as it isn't in English or in America until I dug too deep into the wiki. I still don't know what it's like.
Considering the animated tv show is a mess writing-wise, I'd be open to a remake of any kind.
Listen, I’m a filmmaker currently breaking into the industry. I’ve also seen every episode of Miraculous. If Zag lets me pull this off, it would actually be good…
So that means Mcu spiderman vs Live action Spider-Man

Could be new characters or a different reality where perhaps they’re adults when they meet or a story from Adrien’s perspective if it was going to have any success
just a thought ..... if they were to make a live action movie with an average budget........why dont they just scrap it and invest that money into the animation quality of THE MAIN show
Okay, why are people so obsessed with making live-action adaptation from animations these days?! I have seen and heard about many live-action adaptations, and they were disasters. Shows like Fate: The Winx Saga, The Really Loud House, The Fairly Odder, and the attempted Powerpuff Girls live-action adaptation (and we all saw the script for that), and they all ended up being total disasters. Sure, there are live-action adaptations that did work like Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and Sonic the Hedgehog and some Disney remakes I think turned out good, and I’m fine with live-action shows as long as they are original. But with your points, Miraculous should not get a live-action for a number of reasons. I understand the first narrative arc of the series is going to come to an end soon, which means we might be in a hiatus for a while (probably a year or so), but there is also so many projects being made like the animated movie (with possible sequels), the World Specials, and the second narrative arc overall. Why put one more project that could end up causing too much problems?

I totally agree with you, Smarty Pants, also live action is limited than animation, animation is limitless while live action isn't and I think the film would use CGI too much to make the Kwamis and the giant villains look real.
i would laugh so hard at a live action miraculous
Miraculous needs to make movies in the original Pilot animated style. It would honestly be so cool to see tbh.
A live action movie, no. But, a live action series made by Toei is a different story, they've made Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and they created Japanese Spiderman in the 70's so Toei has experience with adapting other properties. Miraculous Ladybug is already being co produced by Toei, so it's in the realms of possibilities.
I think the live action should be like in the future, building ok the end of their lives. They could get rid of the creepy behaviors and change the story to make it work for the live action.
If there were some cool redesigns that would be cool, like a different cool real not cartoonish hairstyle with like cool super hero clothes I don’t really know how to explain it but but make it better than spotted PJs, maybe age them up a little, and get rid of Andre the ice cream man, and like tone down the embarrassment levels
Not the Janel Parish as Marinette 😩
I agree because not everything would translate will from the show
There’s only ONE MAN who could bring miraculous to life…. James Cameron ..👍 With Arnie as gabe…!👍😂
I feel it's a very sharp dubble bladed sword.... They need many-many-many things to pull it off succesfully, but in that chase, if they do, it's gona be big...

Agreed!
If someone tried to look like Ladybug, I think they’d look more like Socqueline
Yea
What about if they did live action base it on them in college that would cover at least the whole age thing
Can you do a video on Chloe's wasted redemption arc.
The only person I can think of right now that I might like the look of in live action is Myura lol. I think she could look pretty fabulous
another problem I don't think you touched was the akumatized villains extravagant costumes, they would make filming a nightmare, i mean, how could you make a villain wearing pumps or stilettos jump super high or run on rooftops without a ton of CGI. which links back to your high budget problem.
Thx for saying it 🙏
very nice video
A live action how to train your dragon is on the works thoughts?
They're going to make it anyway
atp who planned or think this project is a good idea ?? 😦
So, I think a Miraculous live action has an unlikely, but not impossible, chance of working. Everything you said is correct. Although, I’ve seen cosplayers on KZread create and act out live action Miraculous abridged episodes at the cost of having no budget and no dialogue. Those shorts actually look decent despite their lack of budget. In the animated movie, I think Hawkmoth could only work if he’s written similar to CW’s The Flash’s Reverse Flash where as Gabriel Agreste/Harrison Wells, he’s an overarching presence where he guides his son to his full potential, but also makes appearances as Hawkmoth/Reverse Flash to be a conflict and looming threat for the heroes until the end where he’s inevitably defeated. Back to the live action aspect, while it would be more like a live action anime, doesn’t Disney posses some right to Miraculous? I’m genuinely asking because I’m not clear on that myself. If they do, maybe the live action show might be promoted halfway decently. In addition, I can’t think of a way where the magic looks good. The best I can think of is that all magic is replaced by technology and the kwamis now have nanotechnology like Iron Man and they’d probably be AI’s. Meanwhile Hawkmoth would have whatever computer technology Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox used in The Dark Knight to send his own corrupted nanotech Akumas to the villain of the week. At that point, the magic is gone and replaced and that’s not a good thing. Plus the price for that CGI would probably be outrageous.

Too bad that's never stopped Hollywood from making bad, terrible, or lord awful live-action adaptation remakes like: "Scooby-Doo, Inspector Gadget, Underdog, Super Mario Bros., The Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield, Yogi Bear, the Flintstones, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," and of course, we all can't forget about the live-action Disney remakes of their OG classics. And that's definitely not going to stop them from making a live-action remake of this show here with Lionsgate like they did with Saban brands to make "Power Rangers" (2017)
Imagine if they cast a white girl to play Marinette 😶
Cosplayers can pull off the looks
Also animated is more the way to go
the thumbnail kills me (in a bad way)
I agree with you for the most part that a live-action adaptation of Miraculous Ladybug is a terrible idea, but there is one point I take issue with. When you mention that Marinette's antics wouldn't hold up well in live-action, I'd argue that there has already been a live-action equivalent of Marinette in another genre. In the 2000s there was this supernatural soap opera called Passions. If you've ever watched Passions, one of its pivotal characters, Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, acts a lot like Marinette and she's even older at the beginning of the show! If the live-action material were going for the same campy vibe as Passions, live action Miraculous Ladybug could work on a tonal level...at least as a series.

I may not see how you can work with the costumes, but maybe they can do something with their behaviors?
If they do a live action version of miraculous whether Tv or movie, Id actually be interested to see it. Not saying it’ll be good but it’ll at least intrigue me. If they need help Casting live action Gabe, I volunteer Ben Mendelsohn. He has the look, experience and acting skills to do the role successfully!
the animation budget is a disaster, imagine the cgi in the LA
love the fruits basket references
If a live action film is ever made one thing I wonder is how there going to show the transformation scenes one way would be to do what some epesodes did which is that the character just sais the catchphrase we see some light shining and then there transformed.
Live Actions are always hit or miss and I can’t think of a studio that can consistently knock out amazing live action movies. I know something was about to reply or is thinking “what about Disney they had good live action movies?” To answer that question I said consistently Disney has made some live action movies that I’d rather watch the mess of what DC dose with live action. That being said and to answer the original question is it possible yes but you’d have to talk with people who can properly understand and work with CGI and live action and second it would have to be another version possibly of the two as as grown ups. Since we haven’t seen their adult versions in the anime yet they could theoretically change the costumes and some of the issues would be a bit better. Of course that is the only way any other would be entirely too creepy or cringe to really draw anyone into watching save the extreme die hard fans who would watch everything miraculous related.
I'd watch it if they did live action version yes I just don't know if it should be a live-action movie or live action show or should they start with a show or start with the movie in urdu both I think the show would do better setting up everyone so the movie could work or you call it the movie day one in ladybug 🐞 and cat noir 😺
God bless! prayer here when wanted loves!
Why adaot something that is already perfectly successful in animation I know it's for money but still. Plus shouldn't they be focusing on the countless spinoff series since miraculous is their breadwinner show
I do agree that I don't like the idea of a live action film. Your points about the outfits on children, the actions and comedic moments, the budget, and live action adaptions just...don't do well. They never do. However I disagree with your point on Hawkmoth and the monster of the week feel. I think that if they focus on the adaption part of a live action adaption and do their own thing with the main story as the outline it could work. And I don't think you need to make it unrecognizable either. Creativity can do wonders in the right hands. Though whether they would actually put the story in the right hands is up for debate. I definitely don't think we need a live action adaption though please no. -_-
why does Hollywood think everything that is great in animation would also look great in live action? Isn't anyone in Hollywood paying attention to how much people dislike the Disney live action remakes compared to the original? Miraculous Ladybug would not work as live action for all the reasons you talked about and a here a few more CGI Kwami's would probably be a let-down. CGI is very hit or miss and I doubt die-hard fans of the animated show would be impressed by CGI Kwami's. This also applies to the lucky charm at the end of every battle ladybug always uses magical ladybugs to repair any damage the villain caused to recreate that in live action it would have to be in CGI too and I don't think it would work for the same reasons CGI Kwami's wouldn't work. I also doubt every character would get their due the animated show rotates through different characters being both villains and heroes. I doubt there would be enough time to recreate that in live action format. Miraculous Ladybug should never be made into live action it just wouldn't work.
smarty, plspls just divide your vdo essay into titled segments pls pls
Ya a live action film for sure is not a great idea(a no go), but if it was represented as a touring/Broadway musical of some sort; I think it be way more popular attraction for the fans!
