Classic example of what my mom does as a cleaner. When I was a kid she had to take me with her bc there was no one else to watch me and I would help her out by dusting doors and window frames around when I was 8. I learned how to clean well bc of her and as I got older I started having bigger responsibilities like cleaning whole bathrooms on my own for a client and half bathrooms as well, also vacuuming basements and such. It was only until I got my own minimum wage job that I stopped going with her bc I wanted to get paid more lol I still miss those moments tho Especially after a long day and we choose what to eat after Whether I was 8 or 15 I’m in college now away from my mom and this video just reminded me of her, can’t wait to go back home for her birthday coming up✨ :D

I get paid to organize every part of my client's home and then they are left with a "put-away" list of where everything is located. If there is any question as to where an item belongs, I ask the client where they want it to be put. After the intitial requested organization, EVERY time I go there it's put back in the EXACT same place. Of course I'm specifically hired to do that, so there isn't a problem or confusion. I'm a "housekeeper" in the more traditional sense of the word, working in high end homes with responsibilities beyond the basics and expected to pay more attention to details & aesthetics (flower arrangements, decorating, hanging artwork, placing new purchases, sewing alterations, ironing fine linens, even cooking) not required of basic "cleaners." It all depends on what the client's needs and requests are.

This is actually a strategy I use to clean my house sometimes. In my mind I call it a cosmetic clean. I don’t put stuff away, I just tidy to make it look cosmetically appealing, even if that means certain stuff had to be shoved here or there where it doesn’t necessarily belong. Then I actually get something done instead of giving up!

I love this explanation. When I was 21 I could clean a Bed and Breakfast room in no time. Then go home and look at my room and be at a total loss. Thought I was just lazy or something. No. At a B&B or hotel it's usually a pleasant room with the minimum necessary to be comfortable for a few days. I was not responsible for a closet of each guest's clothes, a clothes dresser, memorabilia, etc. I could just make the bed, clean, change towels, and leave. At home...it's tidying, organizing, inventory management, *and* cleaning. It's not impossible, just a different mindset. That's why I set fun challenges for myself, have an energizing song playlist, and never beat myself up for not getting everything done on my insane to do lists. I am not 21 anymore and have a husband and 2 kids to account for in laundry and organizing. 😆

I’ve been a residential cleaner for over 3 years and this is super true, it’s very helpful when clients pick things up before their appointment but since we’re all super busy, that doesn’t always happen. You quickly become a pro at organized chaos, just putting things together that seem to go together but not putting things away unless I know exactly where it goes or the client is there to ask. Cool to see someone explain this! I feel like people often think you’re cheating them or not cleaning thoroughly but there isn’t much to do about personal stuff laying around.

As a former Cleaner, I disagree, if you're hired to Clean, that means to CLEAN. ie:: The removal of dirt, dust, grime, bacteria etc from Surfaces, maybe windows if agreed to., doing laundry also a separate item to be agreed to or not. Cleaner is meant to Clean Surfaces. NOT spend Their /Your Time Tidying up Other Peoples Personal Belongings First so to be able to clean the surfaces in the home. That job requires a Maid Service & is more $ because it's double the work of just Cleaning. If you're doing Full Maid Serice for Cleaning rate, you're Under valuing Your Time.

But here it is: She explains its helpful for the Client to tidy their belongings before she come to do Her Job of CLEANING, ( I explained the difference between Cleaning and Maid Service)but she then goes on to say she often has to do it anyway bc the Client doesn't for whatever reason. My point, as I said is if She was hired to CLEAN then she needs them to pick their crap up before she comes to clean, otherwise, if she has to pick their crap up, she is doing Work She wasn't hired and more importantly isn't being Paid to Do. That is the Client taking Advantage as well as being generally disrespectful, getting Service - ** HER TIME** - for FREE ! Not just her time either, Cleaning is physical labor, everytime she has to bend or reach to pick clothes etc. up is one more movement toward repetitive stress injury and worn out knees and joints. .... Why do that for FREE? Idk, maybe you enjoy spending your time working for free, but that's usually called Volunteering, personally, my Volunteer hours go elsewhere, somewhere useful and needed other than to people who can't clean their own home. Her time is not free, it's as valuable to her as yours is to you, and mine is to me. So, I was encouraging her to stand up for herself and get paid for the FULL Job she does. ...and also venting at people who disrespect and take advantage of people doing the very work they won't.

As a former house cleaner, I agree with the others. Do not feel embarrassed! Cleaners do a lot of different types of jobs… for instance, my first employer cleaned strip clubs, so therefore I had to clean strip clubs. You can only imagine the gross stuff I’ve seen, so cleaning someones home is a million times better, no matter what. I never threw away anything that wasn’t already in the garbage, like receipts or paper bags that I believed were trash. They would get folded and placed neatly somewhere close to where I found them. Cleaners never know what someone else considers trash so we usually don’t throw it away unless you tell us. Those paper bags and receipts could be someone’s child’s art project supplies for all we know, so it’s better safe than sorry.

Taking pictures is a helpful tip. When I was cleaning homes I would take a picture of for example where they had everything placed in their bathroom counters or in the corners of the tub area so that after I cleaned it I could put it back like they had it. And although it may be a little time-consuming it was worrisome to me that they would complain that their stuff had been moved or that I had reorganized their belongings. In a situation like stuff on the counter, stuff on the table. Maybe it's not so imperative to worry about putting everything back in the exact same spot but if you feel it's an issue this is also a good tip. Take a picture first refer back to the picture - put everything back where they had it. 👍great channel 👏

Yes I've started to recognize that organizing and cleaning are two different things, and it really does help. Sometimes you feel like doing one, but the thought of having to do the other discourages you. But keeping them separate in my mind and in doing them really helps me.

Hey, we are all super busy these days with this or that, so what I suggest is doing exactly as she does in the video sometimes. Then either organize after or do that on certain days or times. Keeping the two separate helps. That way you aren't trying to clean and organize at the same time. There are times it makes sense to do both. If I am going to organize a cabinet, or the fridge, then I'll be taking most everything out, so it only makes sense to wipe them while I'm there. But imo, as far as daily cleaning goes, many times it just has to be like she just did in this video. Then maybe another time I can organize, or at least do what she does, then organize or put away the small piles after. When one tries to do both at the same time, it gets overwhelming and often, neither gets done. I struggled with this for a long time. Another thing I do is multipurpose cleaners. Something that disinfects, but also smells great. That helps. Lastly, go easy on yourself. Again, we are all super busy and it's not easy, so it's ok if your home looks like people actually live there. Don't be hard on yourself.

I'm a very neat and orderly person and I'm getting older and have a house too big for me to clean. So I have a person come clean my home. Some of them wouldn't do anything because all they would do is organize to make it look better and didn't actually clean. They would spend 45 minutes in a 6000 sq ft house, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, which is bs. They would make flowers in my tissue boxes and ridiculous things like that but they didn't know how to clean. I finally got someone to actually clean my home and I've been very happy with them, they actually clean!!

That’s ridiculous indeed! As a former house cleaner, the fanciest thing I’d do is fold the toilet paper, it took me less than 5 seconds and I was taught it was a way to communicate that we were actually present and finished cleaning that bathroom. There were so many homes where I could tell someone cleaned up before we came in (usually because they felt embarrassed and didn’t want us to know they were “dirty”) so sometimes all I could do was wipe down surfaces and hope it felt cleaner than before, but not actually cleaning and just folding flowers of tissue is a waste of time and your money. The least they could have done is wipe things down, sweep, mop, and vacuum… I don’t think that’s too hard for anyone to do. I’m glad you finally found someone who knows what they’re doing 😊

Even with a neat client, a house that size still requires 6 hours to be PROPERLY both surface and deep cleaned. I've been in business for 22 years and wouldn't do it for any less time than that. If someone had a partner or crew, it could be done in less time but I work alone. Neatly angle-folding the edge of a toilet roll, hanging the towels artfully...those things only take a few SECONDS for a real professional, it shouldn't be something that takes any kind of appreciable time away from important basic responsibilities.

Podcast/music helps me. This video reminds me of what I do sometimes when there’s a lot I still have to.. I’ll just tell myself the goal today is to CLEAN. The goal tomorrow will be to ORGANIZE. I’ll dedicate the time to one goal. If I just tell myself I’m doing l the kitchen I’ll get distracted. But if I tell myself I’m getting the kitchen cleaned up then I’ll keep the tasks related to cleaning and not organizing. Otherwise something that should take an hour will take a week. Just telling yourself to “clean it it’s your friends house” would definitely help stay focused! Thank you for this

You want the lawn done? Hire a lawn service company! I ain’t doing no extra services without that extra compensation. When it’s your own home you WANT to do these extra things because it’s YOUR OWN home. So it makes sense that it takes extra time to clean your own home when you think about all these different things that you aren’t doing at a clients home like lawn care, organizing, home repairs, laundry, decorating etc. I never realized that until now. I was so amazed at these hours cleaner videos on TikTok and KZread where it seemed like they cleaned an entire house faster than I could clean my bed room lol.

Yep! Been cleaning people's houses since I was 17 and now I'm 22 and doing it as a side job. May sound a bit weird, but it's actually kinda rewarding when it's people who really struggle keeping their houses clean. Like my clients are: 1) An elderly people in their 90s who have mobility issues and live in an (English) period farmhouse 2) A farming couple and the woman has a dodgy hip and knee so struggles to do anything more than basic hoovering. 3) A young family with both the parents working from home; they have a 6-year-old daughter who loves to make a mess, so me helping with the cleaning allows the family to spend more time together when no-one is working or at school. It's a simple job, but it can go a long way, like with the first couple I mentioned, they hadn't been able to clean their house for six months. The first time I cleaned their house, the woman cried and gave me a great big hug. It was incredibly emotional.
