Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video Matt and Tony will share their insights about their 8x8 hunting blind. They will discuss size, window selection and cost of the build. They will share what they did right and a few things they would change. The blind is still a work in progress but they have already had a lot fun hunting from the blind this season. Come along for the fun!

Yes sir, a 8x8 is awesome. I made two that size with 84” high ceilings so a hunter can stand and draw if they want. All the windows are 12” x 30” mounted vertical and swing open. The locks are little pieces of wood that slide silently to open the window. I made them in wall sections to be lifted up on 12’ high platforms separately and aligned and bolted together. The metal roof was a little challenging but slides on and bolts down. All the joints which were less than 1/4” max were then silicone sealed. 1x1x1/4” angle and 1x 1/4” flat strap. Added a small propane heater and I’m at home hunting. I’m 72 years old and hate damn cold weather with a passion.

Great job, guys! Hope y'all stay warm and safe and have some great hunting. You mentioned the windows being a tad too high. One of the KZread guys I've watched, Brett Moravitz, mentioned taking the wheels off the computer chairs and replacing them with big, rubber shop wheels. They are quitter and more heavy-duty.

my first blind was a 6x8 8 ft high. then it was a 8x8 with a small deck with better stairs and 12 ft high. the last two are 12 x12 with a 4 ft deck covered. two bunks in each. the bottom bunks fold up. heat and solar. spray foam is easy. only need about a inch thick. one blind is 10 on the side of a ridge. and the other is 16 ft high . that one has a second platform at 8ft with shooting rails solid up to 32 inches. that one is were our range is. so it's a range blind as well. food plots on each side of the range with heavy clover and grass down the shooting range.

A great looking blind. I'm trying to build a 2 story a similar size for hunting with my kids. My youngest has severe hyperactivity and so I plan to make it soundproof.

My best friend and Brother is just now getting into hunting at a later age (we are both almost 50). I have been hunting my whole life and I'm helping/teaching him along the way. He wanted to build a deer blind...... asked me what size it should be. I told him, "It's like building a garage, soon as yer finished, yer gonna wish you built it bigger!!!" Heh!!!! Decided to go with an 8'X8' as well, gonna look a lot like y'alls (work in progress). That'll allow us to hunt together along with his Pop's or Nephew from time to time. What height would you suggest placing the windows, from the floor to the bottom of the window? I always struggle with that. Y'all got a great lookin blind there, thanks for sharing! Good luck!!! Greg from TEXAS!!!

Thanks for your kind comments Greg. I know you guys will have great fun. The height of the window depends a few things. The height of the hunter, the height of the blind and how far away from where you expect to harvest a deer. Generally speaking I would say 36 to 40 inches. Get the chair you will be hunting out of and do a mock set up using different heights and find the one most comfortable for you. You want to be able to sit without having to bend way down to sight through your scope. You also don’t want to have to half stand and shoot also. Good luck and I hope that helps. Don’t forget to send me a photo of your blind, would love to see what you come up with. God Bless and happy hunting!

There is a lot more bang for the buck building your own that's for sure. Your price of $2,000 out of pocket did not cover real cost because of all the free things donated to your project. Scent goes up and if you are high enough up scent in a tree stand or blind means nothing. Lots of hype on scent but unless you are in the real wild with few people scent doesn't matter at all. The best thing about building your own you get it like you want it. Often times the major builders of blinds just don't build them the way you want them. Even some of the best on the market turn out to not be as good as the price tag. I have a couple of big-name brand blinds that are not as good as they claimed, and they were quite expensive.

80% of the deer I've shot on my Texas ranch I have had a cigarette in my mouth. Maybe ten or twenty per-cent of the deer I have killed on my property in Oklahoma I have had a cigarette the deer in Oklahoma have busted me so many times when I have done my best for scent control. So what I have learned is South Texas deer don't care, northeastern Oklahoma dear can smell for a mile LOL
