Why 2020 Honda Civic Type R Sport Line Won't Be Sold In America - Inside Lane

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new Honda Civic Type R Sport Line will not be sold in America like its other variants, the GT and Limited Edition. This wingless FK8 hot hatchback will only be available in Europe to preserve the more youthful target audience for the Type R in the USA.
The Type R Sport Line features the same 316bhp turbo 2.0-litre VTEC engine as its siblings, but makes use of more subtle bodywork, better soundproofing, softer suspension, and Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tyres. Pricing has yet to be announced.
Is Honda right to ban the Sport Line from America? Let us know in the comments.

2:02 "Because Honda USA believes that it will dilute the youthful demographic they're going after with the Type R." Honda USA should really take a look at who their Honda performance vehicles appeal to and take notes. Of course the clamoring for the simpler Type R is being heard, Soichiro's ethos of simplicity and function is something Honda enthusiasts still abide by. The uproar about the NSX GT3, and how the public wanted it, was deafening. A simple 6-cylinder 6-speed manual gearbox stripped of all electronics for maximum weight reduction and performance. That's Honda to it's enthusiasts; streamlined efficiency in all aspects.

I'm 45 and have been looking forward to a CTR since, well, forever. Was extremely disappointed in the "ricer" wing when this CTR first came out, but kept holding out for a refresh for the more mature and original Honda fans. Must say, I think Japan USA marketing is completely off mark not making the Sportline version available stateside, or even a package to tone down the ricer features (wing delete or minimization, 18" wheels, etc.).

Yep and they need their hands wrapping. Its totally disgusting IMO. Honda here in New Zealand has a policy of not discounting any cars. Its called their price promise so they don't drive down the second prices with cut price new cars. Well they need to stand by that and not over price cars above RRP either. I'm please to say Honda New Zealand doesn't over price their products either. The US dealers need to have their franchise pulled i say price gouging in this way. Honda needs to grow a set of balls and sort it out.

I can't believe you people complain about the spoiler on the Type R FK8.. FK2 had a spoiler, FD2 had a spoiler... even the USDM Mugen SI had a spoiler... the spoiler on the FK8 is functional and it looks damn good. I wouldn't have my Type R any other way...

I would consider buying a Type R as a forever-car in the US if it was available in the Sport Line trim. I just can't imagine driving the current Type R around as I get older. The new Z, any Porsche, some Bimmers and even current Mustangs age really well. I can imagine any old person driving those type of cars. Unfortunately Type R's scream 'wang 'gang and Boy Racer.

They are absolutely missing the boat not bringing the sport line to the US They will see sales of the regular big wing type R’s plateau soon as more used are available Only so many track enthusiasts will buy the current version. They need the sport line to continue the demand!

I’m a Volkwagen fan but I love the look of the sport line. It’s a shame it’s not coming to America. And I’m a bit perplexed at just how young a demographic HONDA is going after seeing as many young Americans have heavy debt, can’t drive a manual, then get hitched and buy a boring SUV.

Yes definitely, Honda has shot itself in the foot by not offering the Type-R Sports Line in the USA. Missed opportunity is what comes to mind. I doubt the current market will trade in it’s wings for a relatively wingless one, ‘coz it’s a different segment of the market.

So Honda says the Type R is doing well here in the States and won't want to affect its sales share by introducing the sportline trim, So why can't they create a special order program, where the buyer can deposit some money upfront and wait for the vehicle to arrive at a designated dealership from the factory. So that way the GT still keeps its regular inventory supply and the sportline is only available based on exact demand. I personally, won't bat an eye if this is allowed and will trade my Fb6 in a heartbeat. Heck I already twitted American Honda so you guys can retwit: twitter.com/ktwit05/status/1231270950806515712?s=20

At 49yrs of age I've been driving all types of fast cars on my time from the 93 supra to the WS6 Pontiac Trans Am. At the end of the day the Type R looks a bit too aggressive for today's 0-60 numbers at 5sec. The tone down version makes it more like a sleeper that can surprise your reg. Mustang racer obviously not the higher class Mustangs. But Honda has misread the vibe that a tone down type R can bring.

One of the worst corporate decisions I've ever seen a company make. The Sports line edition should definitely be sold in the U.S. Americans should be offered the same choices as the Europeans. That batwing looking tail fin on the U.S. Type R looks ridiculous. I've always hated the current Type R because of the tail fin. Well, I guess I'll have to buy a Gulf R, because I would never have a car that looks like the Type R as a daily driver.
