My wife and I had the good fortune to be there during the taping of this episode. The footage that they couldn't use was pure gold, very blue, but gold nonetheless. It was the best birthday gift my wife ever got (his appearance was a surprise). What you can't see from the footage, was that everyone in the audience was drenched. We had to stand in line outside and the skies had completely opened up. They provided us with towels, but it really only helped to dry our hair. We sat there completely soaked from head to toe. Still, it was sooooo worth it.

Hilbillies and italians are "too close together" .... not similar - too close together. That shift in phrasing threw Robin off. It's cool to see him react to these phrase shifts when it happens, so many jokes pop in his brain at once that he is rendered speechless. Something like this happened with that Martha Stewart thing. I guess he loved a good innuendo.

Ryan should've said 'those are either some very big rats, or someone's riding a small bike'. Ryan and Colin tended to work so well together cuz they both came from a school of humor that tended to maximize the humor of a situation by saying anything that would get a laugh, especially in an improv situation. I mean, the whole situation was about them finding rats and then having an exterminator come to get rid of them, but it was because of Wayne trying to make noises to give off the impression of rats that to Ryan sounded like a small bike that needed to be oiled up, and Wayne just went with it.

The story behind him appearing on this episode is really something. Robin was getting ready to embark on his first standup tour since 1988 and he was nervous about doing it again and he was worried that he'd bomb. Being a fan of the show dating back to the UK series, he wanted to get onstage and see if he could hang with three of the most well respected improv comics in North America (Colin, Ryan, and Wayne), then he knew he was ready, but if he bombed, he knew he'd need more rehearsal. The other three were actually terrified that they couldn't keep up with him. Part of the reason that he never returned was that the other three were so intimidated that they found it hard to focus and even though Robin would've been game to do it again, none of the other comics wanted him on again because of that (nothing personal, just they were starstruck).

I think it got trimmed in the edit. Notice how after the cutaway to Drew, Colin was in a different position. In performance, they probably did the full iteration with Wayne's exterminator entrance and Colin's directorial notes, but the editors felt like the best 'big laugh' to end on was the earlier moment.
