    Your sediment filter/pre-filter is DIRECTIONAL and has an arrow pointing to how the water should flow. Stated another way, there is an IN and OUT designated and you have installed it backwards flow. You may think "no big deal" but it does matter. How? When installed correctly, the water goes in and any sediment is collected on the outer layer of the inner filter so that you can visibly tell it should be cleaned out through the bottom. The way you have it - the water enters the filter housing from the inner part and water goes out. This means the sediment get trapped on the inside. Looks like you have Sharbite connectors so you should be able to pop it out and flip it 180 degrees for a correct install.

    Oh wow… I hope he flips it around. Maybe he can put in that female slip fit that he was talking about in the video when he flips it around.

    You may want to add a couple of pressure gauges (oil filled ones last longer) - upstream (before filters) and downstream (after filters) so that you can get a better idea of when the filter cartridges should be replaced. You can always visibly check it for severe cases but there will be a approx. 5-10 PSI water pressure drop when the filters get too dirty.

    This is a myth! The pressure baggies will always show the same pressure as long as the water isn’t shut off because the oil pressure gauges are contained in standing water. If they were inline with the flow they could detect difference in pressure but see almost nobody with their gauges inline with the passing water. Essentially making the gauge useless

    Good choice, I am doing the same thing only I went with the 3-stage 20"x4.5" filters plus a 2-stage pre-filter spin-down (my water company supplies bad water).

    You have the filter before the boiler? So the filter purifies the cold water through out the house as well?

    How many time do you change filters that they recommend. And how much is that of a cost to the consumer. I have been looking into that. We have a sulfur taste and smell and am looking to get rid of that. Will this work.

    I was going to use PEX but realized the 1” ball valves aren’t 1”, they’re like 3/4”, which necks down the whole system.

    just wondering why you have to filter your water, is the water not drinkable straight from the tap

  • @exoman

    @exoman

    7 ай бұрын

    It is drinkable but it is highly advisable in most areas to filter what treated with chemicals and sent through miles of pipe. Ours seems to have a good bit of sediment and chlorine.

    If you want to reduce pressure drop I recommend flex hose instead of 90 degree elbows, or a pair of 45 degree bends.

    Probably Odor, chlorine, generally bad tasting water Pre sediment is exactly that, first 10x4 filter is a particulate filter, which catches anything the pre filter doesn’t 2nd filter is the activated carbon filter ( black carbon) filters out most all bad smells and tastes!

    Depends on filter cartridge capability and what is in water to start with. The brass filter with the drain hose filters larger particles, like when city turns water off and back on again then so much large garbage comes in. The sediment cartridge is probably 5 microns so it filters out anything greater than 5 millionths of a meter in size. The last one, carbon block, will remove chlorine and other problems depending on how it was made and what materials. Read the individual filter information.
