I agree with Adrienne. If it’s a wedding where one of the spouses is abusive, manipulative, just bad news, I would not attend because I don’t want to support a relationship like that, But if it’s a couple where I just don’t see sparks and don’t think they will last (an opinion I will keep to myself) then I would attend. But if they do end up lasting a long time then I would be happy for them.

If I thought my friend was in an abusive relationship I would go to their wedding just as moral support. I'd want them to I was there for them no matter what and they might have last-minute second thoughts and need a getaway driver. Nothing is worse than being in a situation like that and not having anyone in your corner.

My brother in law is a narcissist and he married his dumb gf of ten years. They've been together 20 years total. Their relationship has always been a disaster but that's not my business. That's THEIR relationship regardless of how I feel about it. I think if anyone should have said anything, it should have been her family warning her not to marry his sorry behind.

If you are my friend, and I didn't approve of the wedding, I would still go. Like Tamera says, I would silently support you, and wish you the best! It's your life, not mine!

harryskittyz She is talking about the difference of an opinion versus real actual reasons to be against a marriage. Sometimes you just don’t see any connection between two people, you don’t know what they have in common so therefore in your opinion they should not be with one another. Whereas in a case where you see one person disrespecting the other. Like your friend she/he is about to marry a man/woman that insults her/him in front of others. He/she always wants to know where she/he is at and who she/he is with, but she/he is determined to marry that man/woman and all you see is a train wreck about to happen. You know she/he shouldn’t marry this insecure man/woman but she/he doesn’t see it. The first scenario is just an opinion, the second scenario is a gut feeling this marriage won’t end well.

Just because people go on to be married for 30 years doesn't mean they are happily married though. Some are just driven by the motivation to prove everyone wrong and show they they can be together for a lifetime, even at the expense of their own happiness. That's why I go to all weddings, whether I approve or not. Its their life. I have my own to worry about.

My old neighbours got engaged and EVERYONE knew they weren’t right for each other. Barely anyone congratulated them on their engagement and people even had secret bets on how long it would last - I know, harsh! Anyway, they married in the middle of the June and by the beginning of July they were over.

Yes. My brother. I had to stand in it. My mom and dad paid for my dress, the wedding itself and were wanting me to support my brother. I knew in my gut it wasn’t going to work but only opened up to my parents. It lasted 3 years before a divorce. Both my parents my brother paid the price biig time. You have an intuition for a reason doesn’t mean others will listen to it though

When a very good friend of mine told me she was getting married, I was kind of surprised and felt a little sad, but she was so excited and no matter what people told her she wasn’t going to listen, so I decided to stand by her, was there for all the preparations, my kids were in the bridal party, and I was there for her, when she started having problems I was the second after her family she came to, I counseled her, held her hand and was there for her divorce, which also made me really sad cause we don’t “believe” in divorce. Just be there for your friends, say your peace if you both are that mature but be there emotionally and be supportive, don’t ve rubbing things in peoples faces.

For me, I think it is important to support a friend or family member who is getting married, whether or not you approve of the SO. Because how would you feel if your parents or best friend decided not to attend your wedding bc they didn't like your SO? Sometimes you just have to let people make their decisions on their own and LIVE THEIR OWN LIFE. We are not going always make the right decisions all the time, so why live your life living for the approval of others??? Focus on your own happiness :)

I was too obsessed with Tamera and Adrienne's tops to concentrate on the topic ohhh the video 😂.

I had alot of people say to me. They aren't going to last. They have nothing in common.. blah blah. 12 years later, Stronger than ever. And hes still my bestfriend. Sometimes it doesnt work out. It happens.! Life goes on.

My husband didn't tell me then, but some of the people at our wedding thought ours would last maybe 6 months....we're now coming up on 31 years.

My best friend got married to someone I didn't approve of. On the otherhand I WOULD go to a wedding I didn't approve of and I did attend it. It will give me an excuse to dress up and look good.

In this current climate, it seems like many marriages are failing and don't last, but some of us attend the wedding for their temporary happiness (lol). All jokes aside, most of us don't have the inside scoop of about the relationship except what the couples show us and hear-say. Sometimes we do know the individuals on a personal level, but at the end of the day, it's MY OPINION about them. If the individuals involved consensually enter into a marriage knowing that either or both of them are not happy with, then may the odds ever be in their favor.

My best friend got married in June of 2014 to a man she shouldn’t have. I was very honest with her. There were reasons. It strained our friendship but we stayed friends. I went to her wedding because I always supported her. As soon as the honeymoon things started happening and lies started coming out etc. in December of 2014 on Christmas Day this guy walked out on her. In May of 2015 their divorce was final and we’re still best friends.

People wouldn’t be disagreeing with whom you’re with or not attend your wedding if you kept your RELATIONSHIP issues to yourself. Then again, I’ll be hat person that would attend the wedding. If I didn’t approve of someone and my friend marries them, I’ll still go. Maybe God has a plan for them. Whether it’s divorce down the road or being with each other eternally.

It's an awful situation to be in when someone you care about is with the wrong person, but I think it's best not to say anything, because people have to learn their own lessons in life. I went through that a few years ago with a cousin of mine where I knew the woman he was engaged to was not right for him. I thought she was very bossy, controlling and took herself way too seriously and whenever she was around him I felt that he completely lost his spark and sense of humour and he was not the life loving positive person that I used to know. It felt to me as if he was just 'settling' for her. I never said anything though and was silently supportive. In the end he actually ended up calling off the wedding when he realised she wasn't right for him. People often just need time to wise up on their own to see someone is wrong for them.

Personally, I will still go even if I have my reservations about the union, I am a friend to support you through bad and good times. I have a friend who have been married for 18yrs now, then it seems everyone was against the union expect me, even at the wedding 3 people told me they will not last, but I just felt then that the guy loved my friend so much it was unreal and that alone is enough, that made me to have different view to so many people. Only the opinion of the 2 people involved really matter in a marriage.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with voicing a gut feeling about marriage. My sister married a man who physically and emotionally abused her and in the long run we found out the worst and saddest things that her husband did throughout her marriage, and when my family sat down one day to talk about it, my sister had a breakdown like a month before her wedding saying she was not sure she should marry him, and saying there was something off. It’s crazy because WE ALL HAD THIS SAME feeling that she had, and yet nobody dared to tell her call off the wedding. We simply told her we supported her in whatever she decided and we are still here for her and support her in everything. I just feel like some pains in life can be avoided. The choice was hers. Til this day she wishes someone would have talked to her. 😢

I didn't approve of my best friend's wedding because it went so so fast and the guy, from what i had heard, wasn't the nicest. So i didn't go. And our friendship ended because of that. And even though we've rekindled our friendship 3 years later, I don't think she will ever truly forgive me for not going to her wedding. So idk. I think voicing your opinion is important but supporting your friend is more important. Especially after you've said how you feel and your friend still wants you there and still wants your support.

Tbh I think those that also may not agree with the marriage can attend.
