"Yeah, he's playing right away! We've seen Sam Darnold..." Is a take that I don't understand. We've seen Darnold with a bad Jets team, an even worse Carolina team, and in a limited amount of preseason as a backup in San Fran. We've never seen him start on a team like the Vikings. The best WR1 in football, a phenomenal WR2, one of the best TEs in the league, a great RB room, Darrisaw & O'Neil, a QB-centric HC in KOC, a defense that will very likely improve even further under Flores in his second season. We've never seen Darnold in a position this good, so the jury is still out. Time will tell, and if he can't thrive within this situation, I doubt that he thrives anywhere. Now, Minnesota needs to address the interior offensive line. If the Vikes staff can find a solution there, the one, singular thing holding Darnold back is himself.

100%. Not to say Darnold is or will be a great starter, but we've seen time and again how a QBs situation makes a huge difference in their performance. It amazes me how analysts seem to forget that. McCarthy is coming into a position with weapons and coaching that's far better than what Darnold stepped into as a Rookie. I hope they at least give them a chance to compete for the job

@@matador7457 I don't understand why people act like he won't be able to contribute anything of use to the Vikings unless he's able to come in and play at an elite level. The beauty of this is that he doesn't need to have some kind of prodigal season in order to help MN win games. Darnold just needs to be able to move the ball effectively when he's tasked with it, and be smart with & take care of the ball (limit turnovers as much as possible, etc). Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson are all pretty damn good after the catch, so just get the ball into your guys' hands & let them do their thing. Also, the run game should be much-improved this season, which will obviously help Darnold too. I'm under no delusion that he's going to turn around & have some kinda record season. Hell, I think there's a good chance that McCarthy takes the QB1 spot before the season ends, but I also believe that Darnold is going to exceed the expectations of a lot of people this season.

With Aaron jones..jj..addison..hockenson...pretty good oline...and revamped defense...including the real steal of draft Dallas turner...they will be fine

The Vikings loaded up in the first round for sure. They get a solid QB who will come in to a great WR group for a young quarterback to work with, and you have a solid defense who just picked up Dallas Turner who's just a athletic freak at the DE position.

Bo Nix is the most underrated guy. He should do well in Denver and he’s ready to go now.

Stay in the pocket makes sense for Caleb, but if one of your offensive lineman is falling on the ground backwards on just about every play. There’s no pocket to stay in.

Who won the QB draft battle? What kind of question is that when the teams are picking in a pre-determined order? It's the same issue when draft grades are handed out. Don't you think that Chicago should grade out high having the highest picks (1st and 9th)?

He was QB 1 on Denver’s board. These guys talk about the rankings like they’re real and relevant. They are not. All that matters is you get your guy and Denver did.

Fat-boy has no clue JJ is 21 , he does not need to start straight away. Let him sit and learn the system properly and get him reps with the skill players. If he is a "system" QB as people say, let him learn it properly. Sam Darnold will be good enough until he isn't

I am not a Bo Nix fan, but he is in a good situation with the Peyton offense. With Drew Brees as his QB Peyton focused on short passes which Nix did really well in College. But unlike Brees Nix can throw down field. With all that said Stidham will start the season as the Broncos QB and it will be his job until he falls apart.

I not going to worry about it. The story will be told in the next two to threr years

I don’t think Penix was close to the best thrower at the combine. He’s also not ready to start.

You make no sense Chase..."surrounded by that team" lol. As if they had many high NFL draft picks or a good pass blocking team. They were good run blocking and poor pass blocking. No premier receivers (1 good), no 1st rd defenders, (some good). I think he'll find he's actually on a loaded team now with the Vikings!

I've been watching football a very long time and this Caleb looks like a disaster. I don't like their culture nor their lack of intelligence. How is this guy much different than the last pretend qb they tried? All that running around post snap. How the hell would he go through any reads down field? Poor Keenan Allen. He made a huge mistake not taking a cut and staying with the Chargers.

Caleb Williams is poised to bust.

Caleb williams walks too fast. In too big of a hurry. Too anxious. No poise. He will show flashes of talent. But ultimately will not succeed.

I disagree. They flat out said there were multiple QBs they loved in this draft. They did in fact try to get Drake Maye with a more than fair offer centered around 11, 23, and the 2025 1st round pick as well as later round pick swaps on which the details didn't come out. But that's not to say they didn't love McCarthy as well as has been stated the call says it all. But yo say they didn't want Drake Maye is not an accurate take.
