I don’t think people understand how BTS literally came from an unknown label, worked their way to popularity in Korea THEN broke records, won awards and made it to mainstream/western music, whilst being BARELY able to speak English, spoke at the UN, performed at the Grammys and have MILLIONS of fans globally. They sing, they rap, they dance, they entertain. They are versatile, their music ranges from rap, hip-hop, pop, pop-rock, k-pop. They have been compared to the Beatles. Personally, tho I’m a directioner and an army, for me it’s BTS lol, but I’m open to hear any oppositions.

Yeah, I Need U attracted a lot of fans (including me) especially teenagers to young adults, and BS&T was the era where the general public really supported them. DNA was the era where they were able to break in to the US market though.

We can't give all credit to big bang since 2nei also played a big role in the company... In case of SM that man too had lot of money and power... There were many before SuJu like from H.O.T to SNSD...shinwa etc... But It was BoA that really turned their game. In case of BigHit... PD Bang was a very famous producer but not much influential like others... BigHit started from zero with the boys. And when they debuted, there was high competition from all big3 still they managed to crash and open the western wall. Bigbang or artists from SM and JYP didn't have much competition when they debuted. But when they became big there was high competition among themselves and artists outside big3 thrived to get past all this hardships.

They became huge when there was no competition for them in early 10s. Even if 1D was active right now, BTS would still be bigger than them becos of the fan driven success and uniqueness they hv. It isn't directioners who sells out stadiums or albums of Bangtan. BTS debuted in 2013 in a small company in a competitive Kpop industry ruled by Big3. They had to take small steps to first surpass Kpop idols because they didn't hv media support nor where Kpop itself was mainstream. They even started get recognized in their home country only by 2015-16. They had to do 1000× work hard than 1D ever did in their entire career to get recognised. When did BTS truly became noticed in US - Only after 2017 after winning BBMAs against the 6 times winner JB and that particular event made Kpop mainstream. There is a huge difference between them. And it's as if they debuted in 2018 or 19 internationally, but still (some) people are not accepting them like 1D, or any other English artists. They JUST started it and are getting insanely stronger thus no one can predict what the future exactly holds for them. I think the Asian theory did take this into consideration. Both one direction and definitely the Beatles were popular in Asia. All of these groups are extremely successful and have done great things. Beatlemania helped create fan culture as we know it today. The Backstreet Boys helped create boy bands as we know them today - an influence in kpop. One direction helped propel boy bands and fan culture into the 21st century. Bts are perfecting and revolutionizing the idea of the boy band. They all have had an important role to play.

I’m totally agree whit you, 1D and Back Streets Boys are amazing, but their songs are in English, BTS songs are in korean and still manage to connect and transmit messages to people, and that is a great achievement 💜.

Let’s not forget how HARD it is for a KOREAN act to be this huge in the west . All the other bands mentioned are all revolutionary and I love them wholeheartedly , but BTS is a different story , they’re hands down one of the most if not the most revolutionary artists of THIS generation . It’s so hard for a non English speaking artist to gain this amount of popularity in the West , and we should’ve put this into consideration

Granola Bars oh man... I hope you realized what kind of a dummy comment this was. I mean they even spoke at UN and made a huge impact on the world by being an incredible inspiration... and nobody did it like BTS. Non other group ever achieved a success likely to gain attention from the West (Europe, America etc.) when they actually come from Asia, ESPECIALLY from an actually unknown small label which gained huge success through BTS! They are very different to other groups... they had a way harder path to prowl and had to prove themselves much more often then other groups and had to fight trough prejudice and racism because they are Asian and make K-Pop music and stuff like that. They are unbelievably talented, they sing, rap, dance, act, produce their own music/songs, entertain (the list goes on and on). They speak about topics that every age group concerns and have a fandom which isn’t only consistent out of teens but also elders. They talk about very important topics and aren’t typically singing about love and relationships and so on. They have a really big depth in their lyrics which touches many people around the globe. I really much hope that you start to reflect the things you said and try to think a big more objectively instead of mean, pessimistic and hater-vibe-likely and try to rethink your opinion about BTS. I hope you didn’t feel offended and I wish a great and relaxing day/night.

mochi kookie I think he or she worded it wrong, the concepts of what BTS is doing isn’t “ revolutionary “ or new. Many artist in the past and present try to have the concept of self love, mental health , LGBTQ , etc. What’s revolutionary is their success on doing these things.

I never in my life liked a artist so much than bts, music was tasteless for me I don’t even bother to listen to music from my own country many artists consider legends where just famous people for me, but then I met bts I never knew why people were crazy around them for me it was stupid, why will you cry about a Asian guy? Honestly, same i never was into any artist at all I would listen to random songs, never was a fan of any artist until BTS which is very surprising coz i preferred female voices before to sing along well, make cover and i found female voices more soothing, until i listened to BTS ofcourse, now I'm Listening to 7 diverse male voices and i can't believe the me two years back was so tunnel visioned 😹 Anyways I'm happy to stan BTS and like you said Don't care about those narrow minded people who bring down others 💜

BTS still going and growing faster than ever

I've went from stanning One Direction to BSB to BTS to well...just a casual music enjoyer now and I gotta say that BSB were really THE boy band. They broke so many records, their music is magical and their bond is crazy insane like they spent almost 30 years together, watched each other grow from teenagers to dads and are STILL together releasing amazing songs. i find that really beautiful and special. I'm 19 btw :)

I mean kpop before bts was mostly about fairytale love songs but BTS changed that and digged deep with their music about the harsh things about society (because that what they also experienced in their lives when they were starting before) that other kpop groups did not show before and how to overcome them that is not really sugarcoated (there is still love songs but its not the unrealistic side) which is why I got interested in BTS and eventually becoming an army

I don’t care, I just LOVE them all. BSB was my mom’s favorite boy band and I love all their work, I fell in love with 1D at 13, cried and screamed and I’m currently 21 and so in love with my 7 Korean boys 🤍✨ long live to boy bands, my kids will hear of these 3 no matter what. I’m so lucky to know them all

Bruh, comparision should have been on an equal basis, if BTS's songs were played on the radio like other artists, it was game-over for all the other bands, no matter which era, and we always forget that BTS made a name by singing korean, coming frmo a small company with very little promotion when they debut, unlike other bands here, but that dosent mean the other bands didnt work hard or arent deserved, but the comparision should have been a bit more fair

BTS and One Direction changed my life..

BTS topping the world (currently) speaking Korean when the world is such a sucker for the english language, it's what I call 'doing history'. So BTS being the n1 or surpassing the N1, it would be good ngl, but it doesn't matter to me at all bc the things BTS got until now, no group could ever.

LOL no. They're not "topping the world". You do realize that bts on charted top 10 for 1 week before dropping all the way down the charts 1 week later. At least 1D and BSB can chart for longer than a week

As a Directioner I also thought The Beatles were still the biggest boyband. :D Back then there wasn't KZread or streaming platforms, so the only way they could gain fame was by selling albums. Which is quite impressive. Even until now, alot of boybands still will reference The Beatles at least once. Especially their iconic photo of Abbey Road. (Fetus 1D and WDW had taken similar photos) And yes, as a Directioner we are still loyal to One Direction, but my dad is also still a fan of The Beatles too although they have broken up in 1970.

Can we just talk about how bts have done things, that haven’t been done since the Beatles, while opening up the music industry for non-western music, and changing the history of music - and they have signed a contract for seven more years. In my opinion no group has ever come close, to the status that the Beatles has until BTS came around.

nah one direction were definitely getting compared to them as well. Any band with high success will get compared to the Beatles tbh and especially in our day in age where social media makes it easy. Imagine if the Beatles or even BSB were in our generation.

i would like to point out comparing artists from different generations. bts are leading an era where buying the physical album is basically useless, as there are streaming apps and stuff like that. however, in the 90s, such streaming apps were not available, making fans buy the physical albums (which would lead to bigger sales). same thing the other way around. so many people can access music today so it’ll be inevitable for today’s artists and heartthrobs to have more fans than the artists of the last generation. so, i think it is important to keep in mind the different circumstances of the different time periods! great video!

in this era buying the physical album is just to have the feeling of owning something it doesn't really mean anything anymore. I think it's just to have the things that come with the album like posters and photo cards. It's just used as display or decoration so I agree with this comment

i've been an ARMY for almost five years and the reason why is that i couldn't find any other bands and artists like them. they're not your typical kpop band- they're unique and it's sad that the media would overshadow that. for me, they're already legends without being compared to other bands because they're all awesome in their own way.
